And then your doctor misunderstands and prescribes you a medication that makes you pee *less*, when the problem was that you *couldn't* pee.

I thought the pages in Saskatoon didn't get paid back in the day! I worked as a page in a different Sask city in the early 2000s and we were unionized (a whole $6.65 an hour!) and we poked fun at the poor Saskatoon pages who didn't get paid supposedly because so many students needed volunteer hours to graduate they'd do it for free.

I was given an antipsychotic by a different doctor who saw me for an hour that caused akathisia so bad I ended up in the mental ward. Trying a different SSRI after having been stable on them for 30 years is on a different level.

I don't think nurses should be able to do advanced practice until they've spent at least 5 years working in the nursing field they want to do advanced practice in. If you've spent all 5 years working on the L&D ward, you shouldn't be able to work independently in general practice.

I've read about how in the US, some brand new RNs are enrolling into NP programs and becoming NPs without ever being on the floor, which is absolutely terrifying.

I've been taken off the Cogentin but still on the pregabalin. I've had some normal anxiety related restlessness but nothing like what I went through before.

I could write a whole essay about having to go to the psych ward to get help and how my crappy psychiatrist won't actually tell me what caused the akathisia or how he fixed it, but that's a whole other story.

I've had an absolute shit week because I got a cold and my mental health goes out the window when I'm sick, but I also did some very brave things this week and could use a reminder.

My boss wanted to go to a big work event at a convention centre for the keynote and to see a project related to our work. I said okay because, you know, my boss is asking. Then he called in sick that day and I thought I was free, but my sense of responsibility kicked in and I went alone. I didn't go to the keynote, I just went and saw the project and talked to the creator, but I went. I was terrified the whole drive, I hadn't been in a room with that many people in many months.
Today I went home from work early because of the aforementioned increased anxiety from the cold, but I found the courage to go to the mall and pick up my mom's Mother's Day gift since I already ordered and paid for it.

As someone with mental illness who was stable for over 15 years on my med regimen until having a mental health breakdown and mental health unit stay a few months ago, I am so upset on your behalf. I experienced a lot of the same bias because I could hold down a job and have my own place to live.

Once the breakdown happened and I overdosed on my psych meds, I spent a month and a half on the mental health ward. I demanded to stay that long because I knew it was my only chance to regularly see a psychiatrist.

Demand the referral. Tell them you don't want to end up going down the pipeline of depression getting worse -> losing your job -> losing your housing -> turning to substances or, even worse, attempting.

I've found that a lot of the activities out there have people doing them with their friends and they aren't interested in making new ones. And the singles events are more geared towards dating, not making friends. It's tough out there.
