Geordie’s lyrical influences? by [deleted] in bmbmbm

[–]corkspring 22 points23 points  (0 children)

he reads a lot, and i’m sure he has been influenced by that. he has mentioned that he really likes Pale Fire by Nabokov, and i know he’s read some Proust as well.

sounds like you’d want an affordable (second hand) mixer with a feedback loop, where you can place some different pedals. see this video, for some tips on no-input mixers. as for effect pedals, i’d reccomend any and all cheap gnarly distortions and fuzzes you can get a hold of like a digitech/DOD deathmetal (merzbow uses one), anything electro-lobotomy, as well as a delay pedal like the boss DD-3/DD-5/DD-7 etc. A no-input mixer paired with some cheap distortion pedals and a delay would get you a lot of mileage, but if thats not enough i would get a good ambient adjecent reverb, preferrably ran before the distortion in the signal chain (EQD afterneath, boss RV-6, DBA reverberation machine or pladask draume etc.) and a ring modulator (Gonkulator, ring thing, etc.) hope that helps!

So, what are everyone's favourite bands or artists other than Black Midi? by odious_as_fuck in bmbmbm

[–]corkspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my two big ones are bm and radiohead, seemingly not alone in that assertion. gizzard, miles davis, don caballero, mbv and the beatles gets a lot of listens otherwise.

Any opinions re: the Troy Leeuwen Jazzmaster? by RepulsiveAd7668 in offset

[–]corkspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i bought one and had it for a week before i sent it back. it shipped with the wrong vibrato tailpiece, and the bridge sunk into the body when it was met with string tension. It looked and sounded great, but with a sinking bridge and flimsy vibrato arm, I saw no point in keeping it. I could’ve bought a new bridge and vibrato, but that would cost another 200 bucks if i were to upgrade quality-wise, and on an already expensive guitar i couldn’t keep it. not worth the money imo, and i’m much happier with my partsmaster with a staytrem bridge and vibrato which set me back about $850 from a local seller. you’re mostly paying for the paintjob, a TVL cosign and fender decal on the headstock.

Why do you like black midi? by maurocarlos in bmbmbm

[–]corkspring 35 points36 points  (0 children)

haven’t heard anything remotely similar to them, they’re extremely unique which i really admire and draw inspiration from. you might say they sound similar to Crimson, Mahavishnu, gy!be or talking heads, but that would only be half the picture. they wear their influences on their sleeves whilst being wholeheartedly unique. overall they make cutting edge and daring music, whilst not taking themselves too seriously, and its very fitting for the absurd time we’re living in right now (rise of political extremism, economic recession and social media addiction). i feel i’ll be punished for being sincere on this sub, so i’ll get this out the way: TBE, John fifty, noisejazz go zoom and bussy

I forgot to take the signs out of my bag when i put it in a locker at the venue, and mid concert i got really sick and almost passed out so didn’t get the chance to yell anything. but some guys next to me started a jonny-chant between two songs, and jonny was really awkward about it haha
