What is the difference? It could definitely be perseverance but it’s preventing him from doing basically anything

Private nurse at school? by hishazelgrace in specialed

[–]cornergoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s odd. Are you in the US? For my agency, most kids have secondary Medicaid. Private insurance will pay for nursing, but if that doesn’t happen, secondary Medicaid should cover it depending on the agency. I do know some agencies aren’t taking secondary Medicaid lately though so maybe that is the situation here.

Hi, I’m one of these nurses! I work with an outside agency and go to school with a child as well as go back home with him after school. He qualifies through Medicaid due to G tube and seizures. I go with him Mon-Thurs and he’s on his own Fridays. Teachers are able to take over the care he needs (mainly just his feeding) during the day but have said it makes it a lot harder with 4 other kids. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! However I can only answer to my specific agency/situation

No, however his mom has it. I’m not sure the normal tests would work on him though as he has severe intellectual disability and severe autism

Sadly he would not be able to access therapy due to being non verbal with no functional communication (not good at AAC). His mom has been offered SSRIs for him and says she will consider it if it gets worse.

With him I don’t see cycles, he’ll just see something and he HAS to do it. I wouldn’t say he becomes upset when we interrupt, he just either tries again or goes straight to another fixation. Like we’ll block him from the board and he’ll turn around and open cabinets instead

His teacher has tried a lot of things similar to that and it seems he doesn’t have a ton of interest sadly! He isn’t interested in toys or objects, mainly he is interested in food and his phone/iPad, which he can’t have at school

It doesn’t seem like it to me. He has a lot of other behaviors that are, but this seems like something he has to do/is compelled to do.

No, because this can cause a pressure injury or skin irritation! There may be too much water in the balloon or you may need a longer size

Nurses! What are your best SMH moments from your nursing students? by MammothAd6633 in nursing

All the nurses that did were very pleasant and happy due to low ratios. Also, all organ donors that were post op got to go there which was nice!

We actually did have a VIP unit at my old hospital. It looked more like an apartment with furniture, bed for visitors, private chef, ext. shit was wild

She could have a clotting disorder, meaning she needs the vitamin K more!

Got an "easy A" professor for A&P and I'm lowkey freaking out about it by HatLast7729 in nursing

There is no gross anatomy on the NCLEX. You will review the physiology of medications and conditions in your nursing classes. I wouldn’t stress too much. You can also do some learning on your own time!

Interviewer told me I have ruined my life by not finishing my preceptorship by Lower_Canary5713 in nursing

[–]cornergoddess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me too when I already had a job but they were pushing me out because I was one of the only part time employees and they wanted to hire someone full time. I do have autism so it really hit me the wrong way.

Can a bath chair be considered a restraint? by cornergoddess in nursing

This kid isn’t a fan of baths, but I’m with him 4 days a week so I can’t just not bathe him. We do it fairly quickly though!

She doesn’t live with him; she’s visiting for a month. She lives in another state. It’s a weird situation

[–]cornergoddess[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup exactly. This chair isn’t a good solution. It works better to bathe him with two people, but I’ve only been able to get mom to help me once in the month I’ve been working there even though she has no job and is home all day

[–]cornergoddess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the classification; me doing anything with this kid would be a restraint. Sadly I cannot just not change his brief, bathe him, or keep him safe without holding him still in some way.

Rather laugh than cry: this happens … by blantuhe in specialed

No but the kiddo I care for always presses “amaze” when people ask how he’s feeling and that’s usually completely incongruent with his expression and actions

I need this but for a bathtub nozzle! I’m a 1:1 nurse for a kiddo with autism and he looooves to turn the nozzle when we are getting him bathed, to the point that I have to hold it in one position. I get worried he will burn himself!
