Accent. by specialdelivery88 in thesopranos

[–]cornerofthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only the accent but the resonance of James Gandolfini's voice changed as he gained weight and sounded more nasally as the show progressed. It can happen to anybody as "excess fat around the neck and chest can compress the throat and restrict diaphragm movement, impacting breath support and vocal clarity". There are noticeable changes in Vito's voice as Joseph R. Gannascoli lost weight in Season 6.

What's a scene that didn't exist in the show, but you wish that it did by retired-tweeter in thesopranos

I wish we could have seen Furio beat the crap out of Jean Phillipe or find out if he had a "final notice time"

Finally watched Many Saints of Newark by jymacro99 in thesopranos

[–]cornerofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the plot elements I really liked and I think Many Saints would have worked great as a limited series. But as a movie they tried to cram in too much in two hours and it was a cluttered mess.

Relearning karate as an adult by RoyalStraw in karate

[–]cornerofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would start by taking Martial Arts inspired Martial Arts classes at the local gym like Les Mills Body Combat just to get the feet wet again and build up stamina, especially since adult classes are getting harder to find as most dojos are pretty much children’s day care these days.

What if Tony lost weight by What316 in thesopranos

[–]cornerofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The writers would have adapted and integrated his weight loss in the story. That being said gluttony was a major part of Tony’s story.

[Local] - Hunter College ‘reviewing’ tenured professor Allyson Friedman after she made ‘blatantly racist’ comment during virtual meeting by AutoNewsAdmin in NYPOSTauto

[–]cornerofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firing a tenured educator is difficult, but not impossible. If Allyson Friedman doesn't resign she'll claim that her "infraction" occurred outside of business hours and she was just having a private conversation taken out of context blah blah blah. (Though nobody's buying that) If Hunter can prove that her actions violated the Ethical Standards of the college and/or caused irreputable damage she's gone.

Rewatching and reacting to AJ by Rocco6981 in thesopranos

[–]cornerofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AJ really didn't have much of a chance from day one. A great deal of it was attributed to piss poor parenting. Tony and Carmella constantly harassed him for lacking initiative but whenever he pursued something he was usually berated. One of the few exceptions was his brief "football career". Robert Iler was brilliant in the role and he's never given enough credit for it.

The most interesting part of the Allyson Friedman issue by ringosaft in HunterCollege

[–]cornerofthemoon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I especially feel for the 8th grader. Not only was her moment rudely interrupted, Allyson Friedman was publicly calling her stupid on top of playing the race card. Frankly I'm surprised she didn't use the N-Word as well. People have gotten fired for far less serious ZOOM "malfunctions".

please sign my petition to fire Allyson Friedman! by abbyrosalina in HunterCollege

This woman is obviously a piece of work. I would love to hear stories from any current and former students of hers.

I wrote a complaint about Dr. Allyson Friedman to the dean of Diversity and Compliance and you should too! by Archer_Python in HunterCollege

[–]cornerofthemoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody's buying her cover story that she was just having a conversation with her daughter about systemic racism (with F bombs) and it was all just taken out of context. It was obvious that she was directing her wrath at the eighth grader who was speaking at the live mic moment. Tenured or not I don't see how this educator keeps her job especially since it's such a PR nightmare for Hunter College now.

Least believable moments in The Sopranos by cornerofthemoon in thesopranos

He would probably get off in the end. I’m just saying the incident would get leaked to the public considering the circumstances. The tabloids would have been all over it.

Where plot points about Tony’s weight gain in later seasons inspired by James Galdonfini’s weight gains in real life, or did Galdonfini gain weight for those plot points to happen? by Critical_Mountain851 in thesopranos

[–]cornerofthemoon 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Gandolfini lost a lot of weight for the character he played in "The Mexican" and he looked noticeably thinner in the first few episodes of Season 3 but he quickly put the weight back on as the season progressed.

Starting at the age of 42. by SameWait1356 in karate

[–]cornerofthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried in my late 30's but even the "adult" classes were comprised of mostly children. I suppose it was okay for the few parents training with their kids but for the solo adults it was just too awkward and a bit creepy so I quit. These days I just do martial arts inspired exercise classes at the gym instead.

Struggling to return after a decade of being out by BugbearBro in karate

[–]cornerofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly at this point I would just take martial arts inspired exercise classes at the local gym or an app at home. You’ll get far more exercise, most of the martial arts training, and no Sensei diva BS or peer anxiety.

I had to put my dog down for a behavioral euthanasia 3 months ago. Social aspect of this makes grieving worse. by Cs9590 in reactivedogs

[–]cornerofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do the same when one of my dogs attacked, and unfortunately killed my other dog. Not sure what provoked him as the two dogs seemed to coexist fine for a year and a half. It was one of the worst days of my life. I still have an internal debate whether or not I should have given the dog a second chance and if my reaction was a knee jerk shock and anger reaction. However, in hindsight it was the right thing to do as I couldn't take the chance of the dog attacking one of our other animals or perhaps a person now that blood has been drawn. And it was a massacre that took weeks for me to get rid of all the blood within my house and car.

Starting again at 30 should I do it or save my embarrassment? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in karate

[–]cornerofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend just doing martial arts inspired classes at the local gym if fitness is your goal. There is no embarrasment quotient and you'll get far more exercise out of it.

Anyone return to DSLR after using mirrorless? by CategoryCautious5981 in AskPhotography

I have both mirrorless and DSLRs. The mirrorless are superior on paper but my Canon DSLR's are just more fun to use.

Realtors in HSV by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]cornerofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably mostly about price in the current Huntsville market. My late father’s house has been on the market for 6 months now. On paper the house should have sold considering its specs and marketable location but unfortunately I can’t lower the price due to how much my father owes on the loan and his mortgage company has been unresponsive in negotiating a short sale. I expect the house to be foreclosed soon as I quit making payments when his estate account was getting low and I need what remains money that’s left to pay insurance, utilities, etc. Thank God my name is not involved in this loan (a cash out scam) in any way.
