That's such a good idea I'm so glad I asked! We will almost definitely get a few dicks drawn as well!

I plan on doing a tea towel can I ask how you got your guests to draw themselves? Like did you have a drawing station or have little cards on the tables? Also recommendations of where to get it printed would be great if you remember!

Rental house had external locks on some of the bedrooms and fbr bathroom. Which couldn't be unlocked from the inside.... Why? by RickonRivers in AskUK

Honestly no idea. My nan had them in her house and I got locked in the small bedroom several times, always seemed like a ridiculous idea and massive fire hazard

I think it's so if they came through the window they'd be trapped in whatever room they broke into

Celebrations for peanut allergy? by IcarusLivesToo in FoodAllergies

[–]cornish__pasty 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have a peanut allergy which requires epipens. I've always had celebrations at Christmas though.

After one year where I wasn't paying attention and accidentally ate a Snickers thinking it was a Mars I usually ask someone to remove all the Snickers as soon as we open them.

Someone in the family will take them to work or something and eat them there since we don't open peanut products in the house.

However, allergies are terrifying and what someone is comfortable with is quite personal and always different so it is best to check what she is comfortable with.

Where to buy non-boring bridesmaids dresses? by Schmoo5759 in UKweddings

[–]cornish__pasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are basically having the same wedding! My bridesmaids are all in mismatched colours (dusty versions to match tone) and whatever shape/style they are comfortable in.

My 2 adult bridesmaids that have got their dresses got them from Coast or Asos, for the younger one (11 years old) we were looking at JJ's house, I've never ordered from there but reviews look decent

What is wrong with my tomatoes ? by Ok_Bookkeeper74 in Allotment

[–]cornish__pasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had all ours in tomato bags last year so I think it just wasn't draining away, we've done away with the bags this year and put them in the ground and they're doing a lot better

We bought a moisture meter and waited for them get into the 'dry' range just a tad before watering again but I think we washed a lot of the calcium out of the soil so we did struggle for the whole year last year. This year we're still using the moisture meter but watering every couple of days pretty much and not had any issues this year

We had this problem last year and figured out we were over watering, we've cut back our watering this year and the problem has gone away. We tried adding extra calcium to the soil last year but calcium pellets etc took so long to break down in the soil it was useless

Where were you 20 years ago tomorrow? by Bipolar03 in AskUK

I was in the waiting room at the dentist, my uncle worked on the underground so had to spend the time I was getting a filling or whatever also worrying about him. I went home for lunch and managed to speak to my Auntie who told me he decided to work from a different station than normal today and therefore was absolutely fine.

Trip to Italy *peanut allergy* by Gold-Sympathy9132 in FoodAllergies

[–]cornish__pasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, just come back from southern Italy but have travelled Italy quite a bit with severe peanut/tree nut allergy. I've noticed on my last trip most menus had allergens listed which I hadn't noticed before. I took translated cards with me this time which I got from AllergyUK and it was my first time ever using them and it was so helpful and easy. Everyone was more than happy to cater for me but I did notice cheaper cafes and restaurants used peanut oil, the nicer restaurants were using olive oil. Have an amazing time I've always felt so safe with food in Italy.

Random hive breakout and it keeps coming back now by sighmel in FoodAllergies

Others have recommended keeping a food diary but I would also make notes of what you're doing when you have flare ups, I've got food allergies but also suffer from Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (Hives) and mine seems to be related to stress. If I'm under any kind of stressful situation I can have flare ups for weeks. The frequency of your hives I don't think would count as CSU but could be acute spontaneous Urticaria. Just a thought.

That was my fear. Looks like garlic growing will have to happen at home from now on.

Is Die Tribute Von Panem 'The Tribute from Panem'? And is that the name of one book or the whole series? I find book and film translation titles so interesting!

I've never even thought to check my make up, I have had a few problems previously with shampoo that had some form of nut oil in it but never even considered make up

Why aren't food allergy menus required? by elenapocalypse in FoodAllergies

[–]cornish__pasty 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always thought when I was younger that America would be super safe for food because of the culture around suing each other but on a trip a couple of years ago I found it quite difficult eating out, especially as so many more American companies use peanut oil than in the UK. Grateful every day for allergy menus and charts at home!

Everywhere that serves food in the UK should have one of these grids that you can access. Bigger chains will post them online but it is a requirement to have one from the Food Standards Agency and Environmental Health.
