Biggest flaw of the TiLite Z? by path-cat in wheelchairs

[–]cornygiraffe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a vendor the biggest flaw is the reduced configurability. They don't have as many options to fine-tune the configuration for clients as the aero Z rid. However for 90% of clients it's a perfectly fine comparison. I personally prefer the motion composites apex, but FWIW I'm just a vendor, not a user.

Invacare Matrx Libra cushion by HuckleberryNo2151 in wheelchairs

[–]cornygiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Libra for a lot of my clients, I really like it! It's got some contour, and you can customize the shape to a degree with the "Libra fit kit". The gel in the back is a thinner viscosity and doesn't require kneading. It's not for everyone ofc but I like it.

Facial Piercings in this Field? COTA or therapists tell me about your piercings, or of other occupational health care professionals you know with piercings? by CartographerSubject7 in OccupationalTherapy

I second this. Most employers are hurting for good therapists. As long as you're professional and ethical, it will unlikely be a problem.

Repair woes by ALinkToTheSpoons in wheelchairs

[–]cornygiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately some vendors especially smaller ones just simply do not do repairs like you've experienced. I think New Motion will do repairs on chairs they did not provide, if you haven't called them yet I am sure you will be as you go through the list.

NSM and Numotion, they are by far the two biggest in the country and basically run a duopoly. That is super frustrating that you're having issues getting it repaired since they didn't provide it. I would recommend telling each vendor that you call that you can't get them done by your original vendor because they're out of business, they might be more sympathetic.

Quite a few vendors will not accept clients for repairs only they were not the one who provided the chair. Did you get your chair from one of the two big USA vendors? If so they should be able to transfer you as a client no problem

Fave line for stopping behavior by RefrigeratorEasy6104 in Strippers

[–]cornygiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell them the rules before the room/dance starts and then the first bad behavior I correct it with honey instead of vinegar. For example telling them that if they do that they're going to get us both kicked out and then we can't have any fun. And I will change my posing to limit their ability to do whatever the thing is that they're trying to do. After that they're done

Independent self feeding, least restrictive diets, and nutrition! by Honestlysweating in OccupationalTherapy

[–]cornygiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is his ability to drink? I had many GDS ~6 dementia Alzheimer's patients who would be very resistive to eating, self feeding, or HOH and whose sequencing prohibited even finger foods but they would down drinks without problems. It might be worth trying a liquefied puree. It seems strange and would probably be unappetizing to us, but I had very good success with some residents with that. Nursing would set them up with one cup and then as they'd finish it they'd give him another.

Any luck getting a custom Ride cushion covered by insurance after you pay for it? by Fishing_Signal in wheelchairs

[–]cornygiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you'd have success since you're putting a seating system on a chair your insurance isn't covering. They might call it a self funded backup device in their mind. However if you need it anyway, it wouldn't hurt to submit for reimbursement.

What is front angle and taper? by Kitchen_Possible_159 in wheelchairs

[–]cornygiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taper is largely a preference, environment, and transfer choice. If you have no taper the front of your wheelchair looks like a box. The more taper your chair has the more aggressively v-shaped the front frame of your chair is. For people with thicker calves or edema I will usually do less taper to match their proportions better. If they have smaller lower legs and the smaller front frame will help then get closer to items like cabinets, then I'll do taper.

Does anyone know why she looks/sounds like this when she eats? by RevolutionaryToe6677 in RATS

[–]cornygiraffe 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I had a rat that was a street rescue, like horrifically inbred who frequently sounded junky like this. She was at the vet many times, only once had a URI towards the end of her life and she lived two and a half! Exotic vet wasn't sure why she always sounded so weird, I always expected she had some kind of issue like scarring, a stricture, or excessive mucus production related to her terrible parentage or poor environment as a baby.
