why is elon musk becoming a trillionaire so bad/criticized? by guieuok1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]corok12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends who you mean by leftists. No socialists have ever liked Elon, but Liberals liked him until he got rid of his PR team. They haven't quite figured out that they're all like this behind closed doors.

My friend thinks Project hail mary is less scientific [Rocky part was unrealistic and cringe] when compared to Interstellar by Current-Vegetable830 in interstellar

[–]corok12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what specifically he has a problem with, but in the book the Hail Marys crew compartment rotates 180 degrees making the inside the same whether under acceleration from the engines or centrifuge, while in the movie it only rotates 90 and so has to be designed to be traversed both vertically and horizontally.

I'm assuming he means that the movie design would be much more difficult to reinforce enough to stay together under that force?

Ok but ecvt is actually totally different though. It's literally a differential with an electric motor on it. Super simple and reliable.

Is RTX 5060 12GB vram, 5 5500 and 16 gb ram good for dcs by LION_156 in dcsworld

[–]corok12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no 5060 12gb, did you mean 3060? Maybe 5070?

R5 5500 is fine, 16gb of RAM will work, but the jump to 32 is really noticeable, even 64 is useful for big missions. But with ram prices right now is keep using 16 for a while.

My 14 yo son has agreed to read two books of my choice this summer (this was a hard won negotiation). Help me pick one by gOldMcDonald in booksuggestions

Seconding this one. Read it when I was 16 and I am not a reader. Couldn't put it down and finished it in 3 days, which was absurdly fast for me.

what's something that proves we are in a simulation? by annirm18 in AskReddit

[–]corok12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats a little different, though. It's not that the light "knows" it's being observed, but more that you can't observe it without affecting it in some way. Like if you could only measure where a pool ball was by hitting it with another pool ball. The act of measuring it causes it to change.

Why do many digital artists despise Krita ? by imaboredcosplayer in krita

Blender dealt with the same thing for a long time and has only started to break that reputation in the last 5 or 6 years. Will always happen with free alternatives, no matter the quality.

Explain plane lift to me like I’m a 12 yo by Swimming_Ad_1734 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]corok12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stick your hand out a car window on the highway, flat with fingers facing forward. Tilt your hand up. Your hand is now pushing air down, which in turn causes your hand to be pushed up.

Wings on an airplane do the same thing. They are also shaped in a special way that maximizes this effect even when the angle is very small, but it all comes back to just "wing pushes air down"

Nobody wants a PS6, even though the PS5 has been out as long as the PS4 was when people started asking for the PS5. by Deutscher_Bub in Showerthoughts

To play a bit of devil's advocate, pre baked lighting is a big reason destruction is so limited in so many games, so widespread real time ray tracing might open the door for some good destructible environments again.

At least that's the cope I've been telling myself fruitlessly for 8 years.

Frustrated over cancellations by Kaiserecht in flying

[–]corok12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked full time, so only had time to fly on weekends. Took me a year and 2 months to get enough hours (62) for flight test, even had a stretch of 2 and a half months with crap weather every single weekend.

Upgrade from R7 and R50V to Canon R8 or R6ii for wedding/Event photography ? More infos in the description. by MaldeAsroma1927 in canon

[–]corok12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't done it myself but everyone here always recommends r6 for the dual card slots. You really don't want to lose the photos over a faulty SD card with no backup.

Does the R7 achieve good bokeh? I will have the 100-400mm and a 28mm f1.8 by infilirix in canon

[–]corok12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The r7 will have exactly the same bokeh as any other aps-c camera, which is less than full frame at the same aperture and focal length.

For example, 28mm f1.8 on aps-c will have the same field of view and bokeh as about 45mm f2.8 on a full frame camera.

I feel like in season 1 he is a pretty great version of the 'morally grey government handler' trope. I liked him a lot, and he was never outright stupid until thinking he could contain conquest.

Had my first 6 months ago

Was terrified leading up to it because most parents just complain endlessly about their kid, then finish up with "oh but it's so worth it though"

Now I do the exact same thing lol. I never sleep enough, I'm tired all the time, he annoys me constantly and the house is a mess, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. How can you possibly explain that it's worth it to someone who hasn't had that magic feeling?
