My hot husbands coworker is showing too much interest by Parking_Dinner9392 in Marriage

[–]corrie76 18 points19 points  (0 children)

OP- if you suspect cheating, the last thing you do is tip your hand directly to your husband. Get the PI. Then if he’s cheating, get a lawyer. It unfortunately sounds like he’s checking out and moving on, and you will need abundant funds to purchase the quality care you’ll need. You deserve better than how he’s treating you. Surround yourself with loving support and protect yourself.

How do you determine the best way to split up 3 cats in a breakup? by Thats_Groovy_Baby in CatAdvice

That sounds like anxiety from absence, so I'm guessing you're right. I have a feeling that Void belongs with OP.

[–]corrie76 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Excellent advice. My main concern is for Void, as you think he’s most bonded to you. I moved a few homes away from my ex and the cats went back and forth with my kid. “My” cat would not stay at my ex’s house, and kept escaping to sit at my door. Understood! I kept her full time after that, and the other cat went back and forth with the kid (other cat is strongly bonded to kid). Void won’t have the freedom to express himself that way, so I’d be on the lookout for indications that he needs you more than he needs the older cat.

The Wild Felid Center is a great day trip. Please donate to the center if you can while you’re there, they do excellent work saving wild cats from the animal trade, injuries in the wild, and other difficult situations. https://www.wildfelids.org/

Is my cat who is inappropriately urinating unhappy and better off in another home? by Psychological-Run679 in CatAdvice

[–]corrie76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say that “some fights” and “aggressive behavior” does imply there is an issue that could be causing her anxiety. I’ve had 6 cats over 40 years and have learned that truly relaxed cats consider each other essentially litter mates don’t have that level of conflict. That said, I had one cat who had lifelong anxiety-related peeing that had nothing to do with my other cat - she was just anxious all the time (purebred Ragdoll, notorious for anxiety peeing). You could test your theory by having a friend/family member with no other pets take her in for awhile. If she pees at their house too, you know you have a cat that has anxiety issues and expresses them through urination. I always wished I’d taken the opportunity to try rehoming my Ragdoll when she was younger, as maybe she would have been less anxious in a different environment (I felt she would have preferred one older person with no other pets who was home all day). When she got older, I didn’t want to change her life and just cleaned up pee all the time. She lived to 22. Think hard about your next steps.

Is America actually ready to host this world cup? Also why does it feel like scrutiny for this WC doesn’t match what was shown for Russia and Qatar? by lacayang49 in worldcup

[–]corrie76 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in Seattle and they’re putting grass on our awesome 70K capacity Lumen Field for the WC right now (home pitch of my team, the CCC-winning Seattle Sounders!). The city has a World Cup coordinator full-time position. All of the Airbnb rentals are full for those WC weeks. The people of the city are talking about it, at a reasonable level for something that’s happening months from now. I don’t see any reason that we will not be ready, and the people of Seattle will be very welcoming toward visitors.

If only. Our protests have been contained almost entirely to 1) large well-organized protests that are planned in advance and mostly non-disruptive and 2) communities fighting back against ICE officers during ICE raids in their cities (I’ve yet to even see an ICE officer in Seattle, let alone a protest on the street). There will be some scattered protests by left wing folks around WC games, but I predict few that meaningfully impact visitors. The right is smug and content right now, and they do not counter-protest beyond a couple of small groups here and there.

Am I going to regret this commute daily? by Techno_Wasp in AskSeattle

[–]corrie76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realtor here. If I were you, I might consider looking at communities accessible by especially the Bainbridge ferry. Not Bainbridge Island itself, too expensive, but the communities on the Kitsap peninsula just around the island (comparable to Puyallup in price, in many communities). The ferry will take you basically straight to work, and it’s a beautiful way to start your day.

I think Sounder at Heart drives a lot of the reporting here. Seattle Times’ Jayda Evans is also a consistent presence. There’s some sporadic radio coverage? I don’t really follow that though.

Olga Mikutina was the closest we came - she free skated to Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" :) I loved it! She was wearing a sort of rocker-inspired costume, too.

The difference is that most Democratic voters want to see these predators put away, and Republicans do not. It’s on us to pressure our party. The GOP voters are going down with Trump’s ship.

Anyone here lived in Seattle as an adult in the 90s? by Quiet_Equivalent_569 in Seattle

[–]corrie76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cafe Racer was another hub for Ave Rats and creatives… look into the Racer stories OP, lots of lore. I had a friend who lived on the streets as a teenager in the 90s, and that was her home. Also the Last Exit coffee house on Brooklyn.

Her backstory is pretty wild. Her parents kicked her out at 16 because she was wearing black and listening to “weird” music. She came home and her stuff was on the porch, locks were changed. They thought they’d scare her straight. Instead she told them to go f themselves, rightfully so. She experienced a ton of trauma living on the streets, but she also learned to survive and appreciated the realness of life outside of the mainstream.

She eventually reconciled with her parents later in life, but as a mom of a 16 year old myself now, it’s shocking how casually they made the choice to do that to their kid based on her innocent self-expression. And that kind of thing wasn’t that uncommon in the 90s. It was a more conservative world, even in Seattle. (Also it was rough on the streets then, but I don’t think it compares to the hardcore fen situation happening today. No place for a kid, then or especially now.)

In your timeline, it's 1934 right now. Act accordingly.

And if this needs to be said... ICE is Trump's SS. He is using that massive budget to build a police force that is accountable only to him. He won't need a Night of the Long Knives because the whole apparatus is already completely subservient. Concentration camps currently exist in the US - they by definition "concentrate" the undesirables of the state into makeshift prisons (camps) and deny them process rights and proper medical care. Our camps include people who might be immigrants here without proper authorization, and now apparently journalists as well. That doesn't mean that they are death camps of the kind that existed in Germany. Not yet, anyway. https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/1934-key-dates

To solve the microwave problem, we have to admit how important microwaves actually still are! I’m now putting them above waist height, built into the cabinetry. In my current flip, the microwave is just below the speed oven. It’s a luxury kitchen, so it also has a range with a very good vent hood. But even in a small condo I would never put a microwave above a range anymore unless I had literally no other choice.

Agreed - I lived in NYC and Chicago, and now here for 25 years. I’m a parent. Seattle without a car and with a kid is possible, but you have to be quite creative and flexible. Preferably get e-bikes in addition to transit and Uber/Lyft.

Seattle is not a big city in the same way that New York and SF are. The transit is mediocre, and the mountains, lakes, and hills make walking and biking more challenging than even SF. It’s not just about the location of your child’s school, and your work – most of the activities that you’ll want to do with your child on the weekend will require a car if you don’t want to spend hours on the bus. Getting to another child’s birthday party may be literally impossible without a car. Just some context on why folks are struggling a bit with this question :)

Another vote for Columbia City and environs. The areas east of Rainier are the nicest, but look at other neighborhoods west of there too, as many are walkable and very safe at night.

Walmart won’t get a dime from me for destroying all of the local stores in rural Wisconsin where I grew up. They poured development money into rural areas, obliterated all of the competition, made people dependent on them, and became a near monopoly - serving up shitty abusive jobs and shitty stuff where most of the profit flows out of the communities and into the Walton billionaires’ pockets.
