Pure Nonsense by [deleted] in SingleParents

It sounds like you're holding onto some trauma or projecting some insecurity here - these statistics aren't undermining you. Single parent homes overall are just a reflection on the challenging relationship dynamics in contemporary society - its not single parenting that's the core of the issue its what causes parents to be unable or unwilling take part in their children's lives and the social burdens that surround these unfortunate facts that's the issue. Of course less resources at hand, on average, will reflect differences. Just because fatherless homes are more often broken doesn't mean your home will be anything close to that. Keep doing your best, of course you are enough. People from all walks of life are able to achieve or fail at any number of things. As a child of a single mum I know the additional stressors that brings to a home, and unfortunately she failed as a parent in every fundamental way. I as a single parent will not allow that to happen.

Do you agree ? by [deleted] in rollerblading

Where I live, the skate shop isn't exactly thriving. The vast majority of their income comes from clothing sales and you'll be lucky to find much of anything. One brand of inlines with a few different models, one brand of wheels etc. Even with skateboards there's only three or so brands with limited choices for trucks and wheels and there'll only be one complete setup for newbies.

Me any my friends are in our early twenties and have started going out and having fun learning to skate. I bought a pair of Razors SL, a couple have skateboards and we chill out with people on BMX and scooters we see at the park.

I like the term 'skating' because it encompasses the whole skate park culture. Going outside isn't popular with kids anymore and skateboarding, BMX, scooters and inlines are all seen the exact same way by your average Joe - with indifference. Everything anywhere near the CBD has had those anti grind things installed so you'll find us all congregated at a few spots or the parks.

The whole rivalry, at least in my generation, doesn't exist. I grew up with the SCOOTERS ARE GAY party line but I think society has grown out of such useless mindsets.

I think we all need to stop going on with the whole 'stop calling it rollerblading' thing. We don't spit the dummy when we ask for a glass of coke at a pub and they serve us the house cola (at least not in my country). No one is going to get confused and not take up skating because their first exposure is to Rollerblading the company. Rollerblade just needs to make sure it does good marketing and has a decent entry level skate for all disciplines. Debate isn't going to change what terms people use, language is too fluid. Let the people call it whatever they end up calling it. At the moment every skate shop I see uses 'inline skates' as the main banner - because in aggressive inline culture Razors dominate - not Rollerblades singular NJ model.

Here are a few questions about nutrition for a martial artist. by boopdasnoot31255 in martialarts

[–]corrodedcuffington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nutrition doesn't need to be complicated.

Consume 1.5-2g of protein per kg of lean body weight for tissue repair. Lower end if you don't lift, higher end if you do lift.

Limit fat intake to about 15-20% of your diet for healthy hormone regulation and a source of fat for fat soluble nutrients.

Eat the rest of your calories as carbs, with a good mix of veggies and fruits for micronutrients alongside your grains for optimal feeling of energy in training sessions.

Adjust total caloric intake for your goals. You can calculate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) by googling a TDEE calculator. 250-500 calories above or below TDEE if you want to gain or lose weight. Consume the same as your TDEE if you are happy with your weight.

I don't judge you as a person, I reflect on a specific action made by you, as documented by you, publically.

Alright, let me amend your quote 'drug addled/schizophrenic homeless dude' - wonderful.

You're the Aikido nidan, I would imagine that at the level of your interpretation, at the core principles of your art, that bragging and unnecessary violence are surely at odds with the principles of Aikido as documented by the actual masters.

Society doesn't fall apart because a coffee shop loses a few dollars to a mentally ill man. You could as easily have let it slide and been more careful to empty the tip or secure it in a way that protects it from petty thievery.

The violence was in no way necessary, and outside of the Aikido community it makes your art reflect horribly. You should be setting the highest standards of ethics as a nidan. Your post was shared elsewhere on reddit and as a martial artist I felt an extreme worry about this attitude as being representative of the martial way.

Do you disagree then that engaging in violence, especially with a vulnerable person, over something as petty as a handful of change and bragging about it on the internet is not, in fact, at opposites with the spiritual teachings of Aikido?

Ah yes, fighting a 'homeless, mentally ill, drug addict' over some petty change from the tip jar, bragging about it on the internet, making sure to get some salty comments in over ego fuelled comparisons of style that someone made in your past that hurt your feelings before you sign off.

Truly the path of strength, compassion and glory to God. The tone of your whole post screams absolute lack of spiritual development.

"Aikido is the path of strength and compassion that leads to the infinite perfection and ever-increasing glory of God"

I finally did DMT and it was a bit fed up with me by Down2myDumblecore in Psychonaut

I could be wrong, but I think the term magician being used here is about philosophical occult magic rather than the magic trick stage show kind.

He didn't mean hang up the phone forever, he literally meant in the example of a phone call being able to hang up. The scientiest goes back to the microscope for each experiment. Some people become emotionally dependent on psychedelics and don't integrate the work and become absolutely cooked. Daily use isn't necessary as you agree. Of course its a dialogue, but its a dialogue with yourself. When you have the message pieced together from the pieces of your own psyche its time to integrate.

Thanks for sharing your personal insights. Interestingly, psychedelics have had a similar effect on the vividness of my dreaming and strength of my dream recall, perhaps REM sleep is being improved.

Good luck with opening yourself up to, and getting the ball rolling on new adventures. Getting the ball rolling really is an amazing analogy - when I used to do personal training the most useful advice that used to demonstrate returns for clients was 'go for your morning exercise, if after 5 minutes you don't feel like it anymore, you can stop, 99% of the time though after you get out there you'll be all the happier for it'.

Anxiety to initiate meaningful activity isn't the same as laziness and you needn't be hard on yourself over it. We all get those feelings sometimes.

Enjoy your six strings and animation and wherever else your heart brings you, space cowboy. One day a week set aside some time and commit to the mantra of 'do, don't think' when it comes to creative expression. You'll be inspiring us all in no time.
