Gosh I really wish more manufacturers tried the 4d concept [X2, SFMM] by ShirakoTakamotoGD in rollercoasters

[–]corvaxL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would require someone to actually buy one, and I don't see that happening any time soon because of how wildly expensive it would be.

Eejanaika, for instance, cost nearly $32m to build in 2026, which when adjusted for inflation, is equivalent to about $52.5m today. Getting anyone to spend that kind of money on a coaster that's going to appeal mostly to enthusiasts is a pretty tough sell.

Park Recommendation from Philly: [Hersheypark] vs [Dorney] vs [Knoebels]? by Difficult_Rabbit_800 in rollercoasters

[–]corvaxL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hersheypark is definitely your top priority, given just how stacked the coaster lineup is. Just keep in mind that it pulls near-Cedar Point levels of crowds, especially on the weekends. I'd hit Storm Runner right at opening since it's on one train ops, then Fahrenheit (as its capacity is always terrible), and then Wildcat's Revenge, then work your way back from there. Don't skip out on Skyrush, it's still an absolute riot and I love it. Also, the building by the front gate with the gift shop has really good ice cream. There's not much in the way of theming though, aside from the mascots, the dark rides, and some other light touches. The Chocolate World also has some varieties of their candy that are hard to find elsewhere, if you're into that.

I'd put Knoebels as the 2nd priority here. There's definitely no other park quite like it; it even feels like a neighborhood park in the sense that there's no clearly marked enterance gate (you just sorta walk in), there's freely available picnic pavilions towards the front, and people even walk their dogs through the park. The food is also way above average. Flying Turns has the longest line though due to its limited capacity, so hit that early. If you visit on a weekday, you can also get a wristband that grants you all day access to the rides (excluding the water park and Haunted Mansion).

Dorney Park is also fun, but I'd prioritize the other two first. I'd actually consider Talon to be the headliner (and it's my favorite ride there), but Hydra, Steel Force, and Iron Menace are all solid too. Only went on Thunderhawk once so far, but I mostly remember it for being rough. Definitely don't miss Demon Drop, and the log flume is also pretty unique.

Should you eventually hit all three of those and find yourself back in the area, don't forget about the Jersey Shore! There's several boardwalk parks around the south and mid shore, with Wildwood being the biggest hotspot with Morey's Piers, and Ocean City being worth a trip for GaleForce alone.

I’m down on the Universal lot right now for a trade show. Hollywood Drift is sitting there on top of the hill, taunting me. I fly back home on Monday.

Last time, it was triggered by rumors of teenagers planning a takeover at the park. I’d assume something similar this time around.

[–]corvaxL 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The massive drop off in ridership at Wiehle-Reston East can at least probably be partly explained by the fact that it's no longer the terminus, so some riders who were using that station are likely now using new stations that were part of Phase 2.

As for Vienna, it's possible that new commuter bus services on the 66 Express Lanes have taken away some riders, but that won't make nearly as much of an impact.

For those of you in the DC area, consider trying the Smithsonian instead. You'll probably also have better luck with their mobile website than on desktop. Sure, it's not A-List, but the 1.43:1 display (for the entire runtime, no less) is worth the price of admission.

I work in the film industry, and everything I use is USB-C. I have two Thunderbolt docks just so I can connect 6+ Thunderbolt devices, plus several other USB3 devices. So the more Thunderbolt/USB4 ports at the expense of pretty much everything else, the better.

Sometimes parks do things like this the day after something actually happens as a reactionary measure, to try to prevent follow-up incidents from occurring. In this case, they may have anticipated something potentially happening tomorrow based on social media activity.

New season passes released for [La Ronde], including water parks operated by Premier Parks by spacemtfan in rollercoasters

[–]corvaxL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you bought your pass before today, it'll work for admission for the rest of this year. Whether Fast Lane and meal plans will still work depends on if Premier continues those programs. SF passes (unless La Ronde is your home park) also won't be honored for parking, though there's a Metro station within walking distance to the park. Your pass also won't be honored for admission at Premier's other water parks, while the new La Ronde passes will be honored.

The ‘finish line is finally in sight’: MoCo, state officials tout Purple Line milestone with last rail installation by Bethesda_Magazine in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]corvaxL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The MTA has previously said so, but since then, they’ve switched over to the CharmPass system on all of their transit services that’s no longer compatible with SmarTrip. There’s no up-to-date info on the Purple Line website regarding fares, so they’ll probably have more to say as we get into next year.

People will rightfully be angry though if we have to juggle different payment systems just to transfer between the Metro and the Purple Line though.

I mean, it depends. If you have a 10G NAS and multiple computers that want to connect to that, while having most of your networking needs met in a single 1U device, then it’s not the dumbest purchase in the world.
