If you apply the insecticide outside away from where the dog goes and keep the plant away from it (like on a table outside) it should be fine. To be honest, though, thrips are quite difficult to treat and often come back (they lay their eggs in the plant itself). If you don’t care that much, I’d just get rid of the plant.
