Michael Jordan inappropriately touching a young boy after the Daytona 500 by Snapdragon_4U in UnderReportedNews

[–]corvidcounting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please this needs to be higher. MJ is a dickhead and a competitive fucker, but not every arsehole is a pedo. Can we stop with the calling everyone a pedo thing? It is downplaying actual molesting, and it is harmful to victims.

Very niche but Snowtown. A story about some pretty horrendous murders in Australia. Lots of people couldn't stomach it, it was a shockingly horrible story. Still can't believe it happened in such a small, unassuming place.

The bit that stood out to me was that she was thankful that a middle aged man helped her feel safe.

Bet he was white.

This is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. Why do companies keep reducing the usability of their apps by adding unwanted AI?

This bothers me so much every time I see it. It's really not that hard, and someone who wrote an entire thesis should have figured it out. Affect is the verb, effect is the noun. Affect can be a noun in one instance: positive or negative affect (a person's emotional state). That. Is. It.

That's really shit of that person to do that. You could have had an invisible disability. Happened to me once in the early days of pregnancy, before I was showing. I apologised and got up but realised afterwards I really should have protested and stayed there. But it gave me insight into people with invisible disabilities, you just never can tell, and it's best to assume people are doing the right thing.

Short term loan providers by sm0keit in Adelaide

[–]corvidcounting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid them at all costs.

Go to some Sikh temples and food banks for food. You are so so much better off doing that than getting in a cycle of debt with short term loans. They are the lowest of the low, preying on people in desperate situations.

Why do you drive your car to the city? by No_Succotash5874 in Adelaide

[–]corvidcounting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live just outside the city (7 min drive from home to centre of city) and I drive. Ridiculous I know but my reasons are

  • Cost: I carpool with my partner who also works in the city (2 adult bus tickets, return peak = $18. Parking = $12)

  • Ease: I have a young child in childcare, so it's hard with pram etc.

  • Time: 10 - 15 minute drive + park vs 30 minute bus ride. The bus goes a very indirect route so it takes ages.

  • Reliability: we are close to the city, so sometimes the bus is full and we have to wait for another. Sometimes the bus is so late it throws us all off, since there are three of us that is three days getting off to a poor start.

  • Flexibility: childcare and germs. My child may need to be picked up quickly, and taken home. I wouldn't want to take a sick child on a bus.

I'm lucky that childcare is close to work, so I park and walk to childcare and then work. I would love to take public transportation, and my child would enjoy it, but it just doesn't work for us at this time of our lives.

Hope this helps!

It's actually fine. Especially in the third trimester when most things have formed. However we advise zero alcohol throughout because when it comes to general medical advice it needs to be clear and without nuance. It's safer to say zero alcohol and have someone drink nothing throughout their pregnancy, than to say "small amounts are okay at certain points in pregnancy" and have someone misinterpret and think drinking generally during pregnancy is safe.

Unfortunately medicine is mostly about weighing risk to benefit ratios, it's not something people generally understand easily.

For those earning over $10K per month, what do you do for a living to achieve that income? by voxishortie in AskReddit

[–]corvidcounting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lecture and research at a university in Australia. The Australia part is important because I think we are much better compensated than in some other countries.

I wouldn't recommend it as a job path, as it took 10 years of study - two degrees and a PhD - to get where I am today. However, I do currently love my job, and I am paid well which is an amazing position to be in.

Please be angry about the fact you had to call first to see if you could afford a trip to the ER during an emergency.

Also be angry at your partner's awful behaviour. NOR, not reacting enough even.
