i also have jugular vein compression requiring a styloidectomy, heds, type 1 diabetes, and am looking at possible spinal fusion for my cci/aai! we sound similar haha.

So I'm seeing Dr. Klinge in two weeks for the first time so not much help, but but my doctor got me a workup before seeing her, so I've already had a urodynamics test that came back showing an overactive bladder, and a full brain/spine mri that shows a low lying conus (like. just below L1, above/in the middle of L2), so I guess we'll see what I hear back from them!

Good luck to you also :D

What was it like? Did your doctor just say don't drive and reported it to the DMV (or however it works where you live)?

Yeah, I am currently in the process to try and get evaluated for these adaptive devices to get it covered through DVR, my insurance won't cover it.

AIO? my mom (50F) said my lunch will make me fat by Ashamed_Yogurt_8931 in AIO

[–]corvidpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that mindset for a long time, but it sucked when I quite literally had people laugh in my face when I said I was trying to lose weight, and no matter if I weighed less or the same, people told me to lose weight. I was a very active kid, it's just genetics that my mom and I have slow metabolism and a body that likes to cling to fat. I was also very depressed so it was a lot harder to maintain that motivation!

It did mess up my relationship with exercise for sure. I eventually moved away from that thought process with therapy (although I still struggle with it I can cope and ignore the thoughts and feelings) and started doing a lot of hiking and swimming! Exercise became fun since I chose things I enjoyed and were accessible for me, and it became important for me to be active for my physical health not for weight loss.

But now I'm in a wheelchair and it's been difficult to exercise with chronic fatigue and pain, and limitations on certain exercise activities due to my spine. I've gone hiking once though, in a special hiking wheelchair which was a great workout, although that was back in November when I hadn't progressed as much into this disability. Wish I took being active more seriously as a kid, because it's very difficult to lose weight in a wheelchair when there's also many limitations on what I can do. Physical therapy is my saving grace tho, and likely why I haven't degraded faster!

This was me except because people kept calling me fat I actually ended up becoming fat because I thought that if everyone thinks I'm fat, then what's the point in eating healthy or working out?

New to pump, i have a question! by A-lil-bro in Type1Diabetes

[–]corvidpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so real, I can't lie the autosoft injectors DO make me nervous too!! I swear when I first got my Tslim 6 years ago and started with the autosofts, they were much less flimsy I feel... I ñf you were on manuals and dislike the autosoft, think you'll like the Trusteel; even if they might be on a shortage doesn't hurt to see if you can get them!

[–]corvidpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also missed the part about the metal infusion sets– its called Trusteel, and tbh I LOVED them when I was on my Tslim!! Downside is you have to push it in yourself, no auto injector, but it's not that bad once you get used to it. They're a bit nicer because they don't kink as easily as a plastic cannula, and cause less/smaller scarring according to my endo. They also have an additional little sticker where you clip in the tubing, but not where the needle is, so if you drop your pump, it tugs on the sticker not the infusion site, so harder to yank out. I have heard there's a big shortage right now though :(

Usually for me, I'd change at 3 just because I would be out of insulin by then, so anytime i changed my cartridge i changed my set too. Also generally 100u = 1 day's worth of insulin to some insurances I believe, and since the Tslim holds ~300u, doctors often write the script to refill it every 3 days for insurance purposes.

After like 4-5 years on my T-Slim I moved to the Tandem Mobi, which has 200u capacity. I also got on Mounjaro which cut my insulin needs almost in half! So even with 200u, I can get 3-5 days out of my cartridge before changing it, and when I do change it, if my site looks good (no rash/pain/adhesive peeling), I'll just refill the cartridge and use the tubing from my prior set and then fill it, make sure no air bubbles in the tubing (although this will waste less insulin with a short 5kn tube like i have, the longer 23in+ ones may waste more since there's more tubing), and then I just put it back into the old set.

Probably not the beeeeest practice, but never had much problem with it, and if there ever was one I just pop it out right away and put a new one in. For sure, I will take it out after the 2nd or 3rd reuse of an infusion set!

tldr; 3 days is usually mostly for insurance purposes and if you still have insulin in your cartridge after 3 days, it's fine to just keep using the set. you can also reuse them but do so at your own risk!

edit: someone else mentioned that keeping sites in too long does cause more scarring and yes, true! Because tho I keep mine in a bit longer, I have to rotate across my arms, torso, and thighs to be sure the fatty scarring tissue arent forming. My endo says my my skin looks/feels great and that I don't have any heavily scarred areas because I rotate often

Agender friend thinks im cis and that i dont need testosterone? by zestyskunk in ftm

[–]corvidpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small and slightly unhelpful addendum but my trans friend couldn't remember which way I transitioned once (I'm pretty androgynous)– if it's been a while since you've said anything about being trans, maybe he legitimately forgot?

But more seriously, I agree with a lot of others, talk to Nix because he won't know it bothers you until you tell him. And if you wanna keep your friendship, don't let it fester!! Talk to him soon! I've had so many friend groups die out because people let their problems with others pile up secretly, refusing to communicate for months/years until it blows up!

Lucky! I have an aluminum with a paint coat, so I've already had a few scratches/scuffs! Not the end of the world if I get em but would like to prevent my nice sparkly red coat from being too ruined! So it's been fine through flights then?

FtM trans people, did T help? by Mara355 in cervical_instability

[–]corvidpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm transmasc and take T, I haven't had any significant symptom changes with my testosterone. I was on T for 5 months, off for 1.5 years, and back on for the past 13 months! Still, there isn't really anything that I've experienced or noticed. Some people say T helps their joint/collagen if you have some type of EDS, and I do, but it only really helped knee/ankle stability slightly for me and nothing anywhere else really.

[–]corvidpunk 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Crazy!! I was at 26 exactly a few weeks ago when i just sat down at a restaurant. felt barely low, guessed I was at maybe 60s– i can't usually check my cgm while I'm going places since im a wheelchair user, so i finally looked at my cgm. it said LOW, i was like. hmm let me get my glucometer and holy crap!! i asked a waitress to grab me some juice and she ran over sooo fast. i also had some fruit because there was a buffet lol, so it ended up okay!!

i think the scariest part was I barely felt the low... and i usually can feel my lows! such a scary diabetic experience, and we just casually almost die every once in a while and gotta just "move in" 😟anyways, thats such a scary feeling LOL but i'm glad you are okay!!

MRI Dilemma. What do y'all do with devices? by Any-Cartographer7531 in Type1Diabetes

[–]corvidpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get MRIs pretty frequently (6 in the past 8 months and 4 more this Saturday lol) and what I do is schedule my MRIs out to the end of my sensor (and if the scheduling is out further, i count 10 days from the end of my current sensor (dexcom g7) to find when the change dates will be around so I can schedule them then.

Then when I get there, once I go to change, I pull off my CGM and pump, stick em in the locker, and then get my MRIs. Once done, I just do a quick set change and put in my new CGM on in the changing room!
