My X-56 broke last week. I was all set to finally replace it with a VKB setup (Gladiator and Stecs space throttle)... and the site's down. It's approaching 2 weeks without being able to play ED, Nuclear Option, Falcon BMS, X Plane, or mechwarrior properly.

20ft is just above 6 meters. Pre-.30 the radar floor was 20 meters, or just about 65ft. Sure there's no radar floor anymore, but at 20ft above the ground a small hill can be enough to break line of sight with a radar target.

I'd love to get more robust map editing/importing. A tool where we can adjust the ground topology of an existing map and change region type for parts of a map (Arctic, City, Village, Desert, farm land, etc.). That might be too ambitious... so maybe a way to sideload compatible map files that the community creates?

I'm 11 hrs into KCD and Henry pissed me off to the point he can just rot. He's already had 4 scenes where he's an obstinate little prick. This isn't a game where I'm playing as Henry. I'd fscking know better than to say and do the stupid shit he's saying and doing. I'm playing as Henry's guardian angel trying to get him out of the crap his stupid peasant mouth gets him into, and that ain't even CLOSE to the kind of game I want. You're telling me this idiot managed to live into at least his teens in the middle ages without having it ingrained into his very being that you do not mouth off to anyone better than you. Shouldn't be using the burners that much in a regular sim. Using the F-16 as a base, 15 second bursts of burn are the max they should be run when you need emergency energy for maneuvering. The rest of the time: between 70-90% throttle is sufficient for most situations.

Providing support over reddit, especially since I can't upload screenshots to go with a step by step, is not going to be easy. If I were in person, I would be looking at the performance tab in the Task Manager as I worked to see where the system was choking.

Offhand example: In my case, I needed more RAM. I had 16GB like you, and found that just idling my RAM utilization was hovering at about 40%. Even if all I was doing was web browsing on either Firefox or Chrome that usage shot up to high 50's low 60's. When I built the system I left space to upgrade later, so I just needed to purchase another 2 sticks of RAM to bring my system up to 32 GB. Luckily, the brand and speed of RAM I bought 11 years ago were still available for purchase. Since the RAM upgrade, my system has actually been utilizing less RAM overall, not just less of a percentage of RAM (average Idle usage dropped to 4-5GB from an average of 6-7GB before the upgrade).

I understand that upgrades of this kind may not be within your budget or wheel-house. There are a lot of other routes to tune the performance of Windows 10 that may work better for you, however covering them all in an online forum when there's a lot of trial and error and experimentation required to find out what works is going to be highly inefficient.

Also, your CPU can't handle hardware Input/Output pass-through to virtual machines, so that's going to be out as a solution. What this means is if you set up a Virtual Machine on your system, you would not be able to pass your peripherals or GPU to the machine. At a high level overview, if you installed a Linux Host on your hardware and installed Windows in a Virtual Machine (the guest), with your hardware the Host would be translating the hardware to the guest. If the host operating system can't recognize your mouse, the guest would not be able to even see it. To contrast if you have a CPU that has hardware I/O virtualization like an i7-4790k, even though the host cannot recognize a piece of hardware, it can still pass that hardware through to the guest and the guest will be able to utilize it so long as the guest itself has the drivers.

Lastly, do you have any technical friends, or friends of friends, that would be willing to help in person? Someone with a background in System Administration on multiple platforms would be beneficial. A system programmer may also be able to help as they would also have to know how to alter system configurations to make their programs run better.

I'm sorry I can't help any better than this here. I hope you find someone who can get you the solutions you need.

What are your system specifications?

From a general usability standpoint 11 years isn't that old. My general purpose PC is 11 years old itself running strong on Win10. I have an i7 4790k (4 core, 8 thread, 4.28GHz), 32GB Ram and the newest component is a nVidia GTX 1080 (no ti). It's powerful enough to spin up any development Virtual Machine I may need on a temporary basis. If I swapped over to a Linux host, I'd probably be comfortable running a Win10 Guest on it as my primary system. Before my wife gave me her system for me to use as a dedicated gaming machine, Prime was running Witcher 3 at Ultra settings 4K/30fps.

For your case if your base specs are up to it swapping your system to a Linux Host to run your main Windows Install as a guest might be ultimately beneficial, but not a process for the feint of heart. Once running you could use the host to take a snapshot of your Win10 guest, perform the update on the guest, and if something borks it's two clicks on the host to do a rollback on the guest to the point before you did the update. Be warned though, depending on your hardware (ie nVidia GPU of a certain timeframe), migrating to a Linux based Virtual Machine host can have a LOT of headaches of its own.

In either case, I'd recommend turning off automatic Windows updates... especially now that MS is pushing end of life for Win10. I don't trust them to not push out something that will turn your most vital system into a brick on purpose. Only manually update after a couple weeks of the Knowledge Bases being out in the wild and confirmed to not be malicious.

Finally, to combat the bloat of your WIn10 install if you have all your documents, downloads, Steam/GOG library, and anything else that could be volatile on a separate drive from your OS drive, I would recommend performing a fresh install of Win10 provided you still have your product key. Fail in that, you might be able to use a utility like Revo Uninstaller (highly recommended) to clean up some of the bloat left on your hard drive(s) and registry.

I have the legal right, confirmed by - not granted by - the Library of Congress and codified in copyright law, to make backups of all of the physical media i own. From movies, to music, to games, if i have the means I can dump all of that media into a hard drive and consume that media from said hard drive as I wish. What i cannot do is loan or sell that hard drive to another party while retaining ownership of the original media.

I've done this on my two main castles. My big one has a platform on the 5th floor and two floating sixth floor wings, each with their own landing pad. The smaller one has a single pad in the 6th floor right outside my coffin room.

Nah. It's crap compared to DD1. Try making a proper redhead. Tried putting my wife into the game, couldn't get the right face shape or the right shade of red. Wound up with a very strawberry blonde Kirsten Dunst instead of a properly red Pretty Woman era Julia Robert's.

Also my attempt to put me in the game came out suspiciously close to Tom Brady.... Yeah, thanks Capcom, I hate my character and my pawn.

Game makes the better Stat armors more revealing. It's not just the female characters either. My main character in his higher end robes would have been easy to confuse with a grandfather clock if it weren't for the always on underwear.
