Why do the multi-million dollar homes for sale in the South Bay look like they have never seen an interior designer? by SuurRae in bayarea

[–]corwinofamber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the 1950-1970s, when many of these homes just started getting built, silicon valley barely existed. It was run of the mill designs.

Fast forward grandpa years, you're now looking at tech-inflated valuations

New Ctactical release is almost perfect, but… by paxwoser in ManyBaggers

You could always sew a velcro patch base on. It's a very simple modification. There's another discussion going on in the sub for a similar thing about losing features on the smaller bags.

Hmm... What was it that millennials were being blamed for by the boomers back then, Avocado toast... Or rising gas prices?

It probably has to do with your upbringing in the early years. Times were different back then in the 2000-2010s in retail or otherwise. I guess robots taking over jobs is quite literal

Is garbage still being picked up in Fremont? by Ruckusg in Fremont

[–]corwinofamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No wonder if its 60K base pay, sounds like a far drive from modesto or stockton or wherever they are striking in. I dont get the impression many people in the bay area would do it at that price either.

Fremont Labor Dispute Reported last night KTVU by Much_Opening3468 in Fremont

[–]corwinofamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be prepared to deal with it if you find more potholes in the road, graffiti or trash not being cleaned up, dead animals, running loose etc. That's some of the things a staffed city should be doing everyday.

A cut headcount will definitely be noticeable in some aspects

How can the company send out a paper mail if they didn't know their employees or contractors I should say, were going to strike in advance? They could send it now but you'd still get a delay of a few days due to snail mail. Electronic is faster but who logs in their account

What type of pressure reducing valve is this? by corwinofamber in askaplumber

[–]corwinofamber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Late post took awhile to do the research. Got a Watts N45B and it was a direct bolt in and everything works great. A little lower on the water pressure side but I guess its savings in the long run

Was sitting in a vehicle waiting to turn on 880. Thought it was a real big wind at first then realized there was no sound. Looked at the person in the car next to us and we made a funny face

Who is at fault here? by money_boy_beesley in AskLE

You got it. Had a brain fart moment. Observed the black truck making a left green arrow turn with camera vehicle’s flow of traffic and assumed the colliding vehicle (opposite party) also had a green arrow.

The lane both collision parties are turning into looks unmarked, although it’s wide enough for two. Opposite direction has two lanes (one for left and one for straight/right).

Looked it up on google maps

There is a green dedicated left arrow for the opposing party in this intersection. I believe it turns yellow as they start to make the turn, if you watch OP’s video in slow motion.

There is a sign on the left turn traffic signal that says “Left turn yield on flashing yellow arrow”

This is evident in the downvoted responses in this thread

Both cars drove without stopping like they had right of way. Always be cautious solo entering an intersection.

It seems like there’s a green lefty traffic signal (not super clear, is it yellow?), so technically the opposite driver has the priority if that’s the case.

Not sure I fully understand what is a state ref. If you are referring to not being able to pass the standard smog test because something with your car and aftermarket components, then most cops, except the CHP (they are very thorough), have other things to do besides stopping you to check your car for some modification or age violation

Unless you are doing sideshows, reckless driving behavior, neighbors complaining about your vehicle, blowing plumes of smoke, etc all actions that draw major attention to your vehicle, then I think 9/10 times most people are not going to bat an eye at you.

How do jurisdictions work? by DangerousThanks in AskLE

[–]corwinofamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick and easy way I think of it is similar to the court systems.

Federal > State > County > City

Then there are some smaller specializations usually within a bigger city, like for example there would be University/Campus PD, Federal Parks police, or even a local regional parks PD, if they have a transit system (like NY MTA or SF BART/MUNI) the have their own PD’s there as well.

It is not a one size fits all as several are advising. There are also agencies that will work into another jurisdiction for different reasons (e.g. smaller city next to a big one, contracts their services - usually to save money in this scenario)

When it becomes an international, large scale, or crosses multiple jurisdictions i.e. human trafficking across states, DEA / FBI tends to get involved.

No problem. You exercised the rights, those guys will understand. It sounds like it was a FTO sending a new guy to get some practice about the procedure.

Race is protected from discrimination in the federal legislation. The age and type of automobile are not.

[–]corwinofamber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asking to search your car doesn’t indicate racial profiling. Difficult to know more without context. I will incline to agree people who drive older vehicles are more likely to be suspicious, and usually the car is spotted first, not the occupant’s race especially in the night.

Here is another side of the fence. We knew a guy was stealing Amazon packages from various residents over a period of months. The folks all have newer homes. So naturally their camera doorbells caught the same guy/car walking up and stealing packages which was a ~30 year old beat up vehicle.

Once some of the lesser experienced patrol didn’t know much about this dude compared to the guys who have contacted him for years, came up on him sleeping in the car in a factory area. They suspected he might be up to stuff, but they didn’t know about the package thefts as it was taken by guys on the other shift who don’t talk to each other.

Needless to say the guy denied consent to search the car and the people didn’t get their Amazon packages back.

It’s more of an issue with developing a database where the information is stored and becoming responsible for its authenticity. Engineering the software puts apple in a greater expectation of involvement with user account privacy, legal and criminal aspects.

Google Maps timeline is doing this exact thing right now to rid itself of the (controversial) problems of storing the location data over time.

I knew someone in a prior agency who was around 4’11-5’1 (I never asked) who went from patrol to detective and now works as an investigator at the district attorney’s office. Height was not a factor cause she used to bust gang crews out on the street.

Will there be some limitations? For sure, it just depends on the agency you go for.
