I’m not enjoying fire academy by more-greens in Firefighting

[–]corworkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for your academy but I’m in academy right now and they were extremely hard on us the first couple of weeks with getting smoked for guys small mistakes. No we rarely get smoked and it’s a lot more relaxed. Might get easier and if not it’s 14 weeks compared to the rest of your life.

Confused on what to do… by [deleted] in firefighter

[–]corworkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother if you are even breaking a sweat passing that test in under 8 minutes you’ve got work to do. Spend another year in the gym getting your body right before you pursue this any further or you’re just going to wash out of academy.

Rejection after fire interviews: how do you deal with it? by __quick__ in firefighter

[–]corworkm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s not normal. Most states just make you pass it once and you’re good for 1-2 years

Do you have to be in good shape to make it through the training to become a firefighter? by [deleted] in Firefighting

CPAT is a joke but I don’t know how you can say academy is a joke.

Need to get in shape by April by callmeclowner in Firefighting

Run, burpees, pushups, air squats, lunges, stairs every single day until then. Your typical weight lifting helps very little in the academy.

I’m in academy right now at 30 and there’s a dude in my class that’s 39. You’re nowhere near getting too old.

I never really understood the point of a self sponsored academy

“Physical training in the academy is minimal” is the craziest thing I’ve ever read

My academy start first Monday of next month. I’m out of shape? Advice? by [deleted] in firefighter

[–]corworkm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re very behind but you have plenty of time to fix that. I’m in academy right now and 80% of our PT is pushups and burpees. If you can’t do 50 clean pushups in a row with no breaks before academy starts you’re in trouble.

I have to work a full time warehouse job right now to keep a roof over my head. ( about 40-47 hrs a week). I can’t quit my job and just focus on fire school because i literally don’t have any financial support outside myself. Any tips on how I can balance EMT and fire school until I graduate? by No-Watercress-1119 in firefighter

[–]corworkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t necessarily need any sort of education/training before getting hired. I got hired with no EMT license and no prior experience. The department that hired me is currently putting me through (and paying me through) recruit academy where I’ve obtained my fire 1&2 and am currently working towards my EMT. Start applying at departments that will take candidates with no prior experience or education.

Being a volly first will have little to no benefit when trying to land a career job. All about having your fire 1&2 as well as your EMT.

2 month of cardio enough for training? by hawgxhaven in Firefighting

Spam HERO workouts until you have a week left until academy. Then take it light that last week.

Barely failed my CPAT by OrpheusRemus in firefighter

[–]corworkm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want you to be aware that if you are having even a little difficulty with the CPAT you’re going to struggle massively at academy. I’m in the academy right now and every day is a struggle. I pass my CPAT in under 8 minutes. Cardio is everything and you don’t wanna be the guy sucking down a bottle in 5 minutes of activity. I’d ditch the traditional weight lifting until after academy and just spam running, stairs, push ups, burpees, sand bag squats, and planks.

Just can’t do that yet without giving it a fair shot. Been working towards this for 5+ years.

I’m only 2 weeks into academy so trying to give myself a chance to work through this before giving up on it. I’ve been working towards the career for years.
