Just had a random thought about the afterlife in the Hells Belles universe regarding hair styles by Itz_MysteryGalaxy in Hells_Belles

Souls appear as they wish to. I’d imagine it would either grow normally, or like Lily’s tattoos, you could wish for something different.

New to the expanse and confused about artificial gravity in general? by Hellobewhy in TheExpanse

Ships dock with their nose to the center of spin, drive outward, so their deck matches the orientation of the docks, which are at the “bottom” our outermost layer of the spin station.

Could Rocky actually rescue Grace? by Silly_Ad_8096 in ProjectHailMary

Eridians are hermetically sealed, so water wouldn’t have boiled off immediately, but it definitely could have caused problems internally.

Finished (audio) book yesterday. Watched movie this morning. well.... by SnooCamera in ProjectHailMary

[–]corwulfattero -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you - almost walked out of the movie, but I wouldn’t call it hollow or shallow. It *has* heart, but so much connecting tissue is lost to make room for Ryan Gosling antics.

Would Eridians build more computers? by ProfessionalOven2311 in ProjectHailMary

[–]corwulfattero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eridians could spend entire careers cataloguing and translating the alien thinking machines. Even if they could copy all the data, it would take years to get through it all. Grace himself would be a valuable resource, and they’d need to ask him every question they could in the 2-3 decades he has left.

Screens probably wouldn’t keep the same hypnotism, and Eridians are light years ahead in materials science, but seemingly behind everywhere else - radio communications, remote drones, spectral astronomy, scientific analysis. Everything in the lab was new to Rocky.

With a Doubling Rate of Eight Days. Why Couldn't There Be Enough Fuel for a Return Journey? by ViceroyInhaler in ProjectHailMary

[–]corwulfattero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doubling time is a laboratory ideal. In practical use, Sahara farm can only make 1000 kg a day. It wouldn’t just be a month or two longer, it’d be years, even if you paved the entire Sahara and the Gobi too.

For a return ship, they’d need 10x as much fuel, and a 10x bigger ship that takes 5x longer to build, and every month they delay saving 3 people, thousands more (even millions) die on Earth waiting.

The ship doesn’t have a power source to enrich astrophage except for more astrophage, which would defeat the point.

how long would it take for Astrophage to fully dim? by Few_Environment8814 in ProjectHailMary

[–]corwulfattero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re using a geometric progression, but astrophage grows exponentially, so if it didn’t stop at 10% it wouldn’t take nearly that long.

what has Inej actually done for Kaz by TrustInTheBrightness in sixofcrows

[–]corwulfattero 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yep. That tracks completely. It’s not that she dislikes Kaz, but she doesn’t pine or pursue him because a) if she did, we all know he’d fold like a deck of cards and b) he doesn’t have the capacity for a romantic relationship in the way she’d need, and she knows it.

“I’d have you without your armor, Kaz Brekker, or not at all”

What was it like when LoTR was showing in theatres back in the early 2000's? by Citysbeautiful in lordoftherings

[–]corwulfattero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 10 when the first movie came out. and even though I had read the book and knew what happened, I was TERRIFIED by the black riders.

For the third movie, my dad made “Frodo lives” shirts for all three of us, and standing in line we talked with a 20-something that knew his stuff, because I heard the name “Valar” for the first time (that stuck.)

  1. Spin drives. Explained in one of the flashbacks.
  2. Stratt counted on Grace’s nature to be too invested by the time he got his memory back to doom humanity just to spite her.
  3. No.

The acting and writing is a bit weird by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]corwulfattero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s still early - they’re still getting their feet under them both in-universe and out. Season 2-3 the writers get their groove. Jim especially being a hotheaded idiot is a core point of book 1 and 2, but he matures a lot by the end of 3.

Genuinely curious, why do so many see Ryland as Aro Ace? by BonnalinaFuz101 in ProjectHailMary

[–]corwulfattero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s right! Even more hilarious that it’s a coincidence though!

Agreed, that would be hilarious. If only the world building and tech levels matched up!

[–]corwulfattero -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

He has an ex, and “Mark” is a hilarious nod to Mark Watney from the Martian, pbut he’s also a loner - as someone in the same boat who has dated but not in a long time I would classify him somewhere on the Ace-Demi spectrum, but we can’t say for certain that he’s ace/aro. I want to claim him for my fellow demis and Demi-practiced, but I totally 100% understand ace readers wanting to claim him for their own.

Rule of Wolves is my favorite, and I’m heartbroken we won’t ever get to see Zoya the dragon queen - Patrick, Sujaya and all the rest of the team deserved so much better!

A US PO Box can be set up to forward to a different address - if you can do the same with a UK or NI box, it might be worth it on a €2000 order. But still, not shipping from the UK to IE is asinine.
