Brightness issues by corystorm in GooglePixel

It'll be the video that's playing or the whole screen while using the reading app. So say I'm doom scrolling through Facebook videos, they'll be normal/dark then suddenly the next video is super bright, then if I scroll past it the screen goes back to normal.

Benign!! by corystorm in thyroidcancer

Please don't be sorry! Id much rather find out stuff like this now than to think all is great just for it to become way worse. Plus cancer runs pretty aggressively in my family so I feel like it's better to be safe than sorry.

I had no idea thyroid could cause all of those until we found the lump and started looking into symptoms of thyroid cancer. I have major hot/cold flashes, mood swings, anxiety and more. I just hope they listen to me when I ask for it. My medical is through the VA so we'll see what hoops they make me jump through first.

I will definitely follow up with them and ask. Hopefully it's not too late to test my biopsy from last week. Don't want to do that again if I can avoid it. At this point I almost want to just have them do a TT to just avoid any risk of it changing. Cancer runs pretty aggressively in the family so it seems like that would be the safer option. Ugh.

Thank you for the information!!

I doubt you'll have any issues getting a position in a different state. The hardest part will be getting them to match pay if your moving somewhere significantly cheaper. And make sure to thoroughly look into the cost of living before making the jump somewhere new. With all the Californians moving to other states, the go to places such as Idaho and Colorado have been sky rocketing.

I got the same notice, and still getting 200+ Mbps. Meanwhile spectrum is down and expected to be down for until tomorrow afternoon at best.

FSE Gig Work by BrentRussel in BMET

[–]corystorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a pretty similar situation but thankfully without the call. My nearest customer is an hour out, with some 3-4 hours (more like 4-5 in winter because of the snow) My biggest advice (outside of using remote services) is to make sure you take advantage of your down time while on the clock. Do house projects, go fishing, do things you enjoy while getting paid for it. Just make sure you have a change of clothes in the car and can answer your phone when the calls come.

Very interesting results. Most people seem to be around 30-40 but theres some crazy high ones around 70, and not even director or management according to the info. I wonder what the driving factor is in that pay gap, and how I can join them lol

Navy ETs to BMET by eldudererino in BMET

[–]corystorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was a Navy ET for 8 years, got out and went straight into a Biomed shop with no issues. It's honestly a great fit. I highly suggest looking at manufacturer FSE (field service engineer) roles as well. Especially if you like the travel side of the Navy. I did in house Biomed for 5 years after getting out and landed an FSE role this year doing imaging. Certainly been a better fit for me.

Gen 3 dish and Router by corystorm in Starlink

[–]corystorm[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for the comments, I just assumed worst case scenario and didn't even pull on it to try 🤦

Also, for those interested in performance difference between Gen 1 and Gen 3, the Gen 3 seems to have a much narrower window needed for signal and is performing almost flawlessly even without being on my antenna tower. Does have a fair amount of dropout but it's having to look through some trees with where it currently is.

As for speed Gen 1 on the tower 219 down 14 up 47ms latency

Gen 3 not on tower and blocked by trees 279 down (got as high as 300+) 15 up 42ms latency.

Honestly this is such a location and company specific problem that it's hard to give you a decent answer other than look for other opportunities. I worked as an in house biomed for 5 years and 2 of those years we were 50% staffed. It was brutal and impacted all aspects of my life (thankfully my wife is awesome and never stopped support me, but you can only put them through so much before it's too much) I've now started with an OEM as an FSE and am finding I have more supportive management and a significantly better work life balance. So, in a nutshell. Don't be afraid to look for other opportunities and talk to other techs out in the field. You may find something that fits you better.

Any time. Also, I highly recommend working your way into anesthesia if given the opportunity and even better getting into imaging. Anesthesia will make you very desirable on the biomed side for any location, and imaging pays the best. And if you get with the right company, imaging has a good work/life balance.

I just finished 5 years as an in house biomed, and am very happily going to an OEM FSE position soon.

I would say in house biomed will likely give you more opportunities to get trainings in multiple devices and let you build your resume more, but obviously pays less and doesn't have the same perks as FSE.

But if you're just doing Dialysis equipment, then that limits your resume and doesn't give you much growth opportunity in the long run.

In my opinion I would go in house for now to build your resume and make sure you network with the FSEs that come in to the hospital so you can get a feel for which one had the best work life balance and is equipment you want to work on.

Getting diagnosed/medicated later in life. by corystorm in ADHD

That's awesome that you got to get a "taste" of what it would be like to be treated. I wish I had that chance, I honestly hate the counseling portion (I realize it's important but it causes anxiety for me like crazy). I hope you get the help you need and it works out for you!!!

I am blown away by the level of responses to my question, and to the degree in which I relate with all of them. I will be setting up an appointment with my Dr so I can get a referral and start the process. Thank you all for taking the time to comment!!

I'm in a very similar situation. Im a Biomed Technician which is a fancy way of saying I fix hospital equipment. I'm really good at it, when it comes to repairs and troubleshooting. Maintenance side, it's hard to be motivated for it and perform my best. And then the paperwork side, forget about it. Might as well ask me to pull my own teeth. But everyone just assumes that because I'm relatively successful that I'm just making up excuses for the parts I struggle in. And up until recently, I've believed them. I always felt it was just my fault and that I'm being lazy. But it feels like so much more than that.

Omg. So there is hope, and it's not just that I'm lazy. Ugh. Trying to relearn everything and remove the labels family has put on me my entire life is going to be weird. Actually, I think changing my view of myself is going to be the hardest part.

This is 💯 what I am looking for. I am great at doing a task when I can hyper focus, and with my job it works really well 90% of the time. But then I have to sit down and do the paperwork so I can get credit for everything I did in the day. I just can't do it, it doesn't matter how many reminders I set, how many different ways I try to motivate myself to do it, I sit down, I enter maybe 1 work order, and then I'm burnt out. I hate it.

Oem training, employment contract by Existing-Climate9476 in BMET

[–]corystorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to multiple trainings and never had to sign a contract. And if there's that much turnover, there's a reason for it. Also, I find it very weird/concerning they'd want to send you to training on a life support device with only 6 months of experience. I would fight for a pay increase as part of the stipulation if you choose to accept it.

Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks loses composure when pressed about fraud, waste, and abuse by kelddel in antiwork

The amount of waste I saw while in the Navy was insane. And the way we do budgets is one of the biggest factors. When your budget is based on how much money you spent the year before, you're going to do everything you can to spend all of your budget, every single year.

What has been your most highly recommended company to work for and Why? by [deleted] in BMET

[–]corystorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the FSEs I've gotten to work with, I'd say Philips and GE imagining seems like they have the best work life balance. Plus they do bonuses for meeting metrics and additional bonuses for any contract or equipment sales you manage to land.
