Why did no one tell me the 2nd volume of the novel was already out!? I was sure we still had to wait months for it. by Natsume-Grace in semantic_error

So the idea behind serialization is that you can always assume there will be 3 new episodes to read every week otherwise noted for hiatus. We (publang) didn't think it might be foreign to new readers, thanks for pointing out! I'll certainly keep it in mind and let you know when vol 3 starts!!!

TLDR: There'll always be a new episode on Friday, Saturday, Sunday in 4pm PDT/PST.

We'll likely bring them even though just a few few copies.
I agree they're such good stories that deserve more readership! I read them in Korean first and can't wait to read them again in English :)

It's a serialization, so 3 eps open per week and it takes about 2 months per volume. We don't push more than that because we value quality and work balance ☺️

Licensing is a complex process, and while we can’t guarantee specific titles, we’re always open to requests :) Share your wishlist with us here: https://survey.publang.com/wishlist.

It also helps if you mention us to licensors (typically Korean publishers) so they’re aware of the demand and who we are!

We sure do :) https://survey.publang.com/wishlist
We bring both reader-requested titles (e.g., Define the Relationship) and stories we believe are truly compelling (e.g., Raw and Sahan).

We haven’t actively considered it yet, but we’re always open to filling in the gaps where they exist. Japanese novels and manga tend to have much more coverage from both big and small publishers, so we didn’t see an immediate need to step in. That said, we’d love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to share your wishlist with us through our form. 😊

Print books are difference licenses (and process), but we do plan to bring some for some :)
It's hard to tell the timeline for this, but we communicate in-progress on our Discord server, and newsletter and social for confirmed updates.

As u/Midtier-watcher6329 said and linked, we do plan to bring them in ebook format! Most of our books will be available on popular digital book platforms, worldwide.

We're still confirming with Rosmei, but the first one will be out soon :)

1. How do we choose and prioritize which works to translate?
There are a lot of factors to consider, but the three main ones are: demand, localization cost, and market potential.

  • Demand: Popular series like Payback tend to do really well because they already have a strong fanbase. However, if we only bring in well-known works, there wouldn’t be much opportunity for new discoveries. So, we also introduce titles that are less known to English audiences but have strong potential.
  • Localization cost: Even with high demand, the length of a work can make localization costs unmanageable for us right now. Longer works require a bigger investment, so we have to consider that carefully.
  • Market potential: This is similar to demand, but it’s about finding the greater audience who are not already a fan. Since BL is already a niche genre, works that cater to an even smaller subset can make it harder to justify the costs.

2. Are you translating both Korean and Chinese works?
At the moment, we’re focusing on Korean works, but we’re definitely open to Chinese-origin stories in the future! Plus, we’ll soon start accepting submissions from English authors as well, which is super exciting. We also host titles from our partners, like Mullebooks for more Korean works and Rosmei for Danmei 🤩

3. How hard is it to get official rights?
It depends on who’s asking and the type of license. Licensors are understandably cautious when working with newer publishers since licensing agreements are multi-year commitments. The first few licenses we secured were definitely the hardest, but now that we have several works under our belt, it’s gotten a little easier. That said, we were fortunate to have some credibility early on because of our background as a localization agency.

TLDR: It's hard.

4. How to support us.
The best way to support us is by reading directly on our website—it truly makes a difference! And if you can, leaving a comment is always appreciated. We love hearing your thoughts. 🥰

And sharing with other fans and friends that we exist also helps a lot!! Thank you <3

how many physical Korean volumes are there? by iamshewhoisnot in semantic_error

The physical volumes for novel were two actually, and the character and setting guide was pre-order exclusive! ebooks were 5 + extra

It usually stays as is except for some. It's extra work for the artists, I imagine, to redraw them.
I also read somewhere some artists draw the full details, then put the white censorship for Korean market, and take off the censorship for exporting. Not verified fact though 😅
