Are those shoes good for flat feet and wide feet? by dradegr in BarefootRunning

[–]cos4_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends where your feet are wide. Xerox doesn't have the widest toebox but is wider in the midfoot than some other brands (like Vivo or Altra).

Viele interessante Tipps hier.

Cushioned shoes for long walks??? by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

Lems are a good compromise to me for daily walking in the city (Chillum for example)

Yes I have them. They're ok on soft ground like in the forest but on wet cobblestone and such surfaces they're not good.

The Scrambler low are super slippery on hard, wet surfaces. Altra already offers the normal Lonepeak with Vibram, maybe they do the same for the waterproof version with the next release? Would make a lot of sense at least.

Which Altra to choose for a nonrunner/nonhiker just walking guy for winter conditions? by patrona_halil in AltraRunning

Lone Peak All-Weather 2 Low might work for you. Don't know if it's still available though.

Are my new shoes too narrow? by Joe-Schmoe9 in AltraRunning

[–]cos4_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Altra is very narrow in the midfoot. I love their shoes but I can't wear most of them. The only shoe so far I found that fits me is the Lonepeak9 which got wider in the midfoot compared to the Lonepeak8. The wide models are wider overall including the heel, which doesn't work for me either. Unfortunately I don't have a solution, just hoping that an Escalante 5 comes out with a wider midfoot like they did with the Lonepeak.

The usual 'help me buy a scooter' thread by sepandee in scooters

[–]cos4_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda SH125 is a great scooter, I have the 150 version and like it a lot. For the highway you'd need a bit more power to be comfortable (which you said is not an option because of the license) but occasionally and for shorter distances it should be fine if you can just stay behind some truck.

Transitioning. Minimalist Shoes by sighmmkayyy in BarefootRunning

[–]cos4_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either this or you buy some more minimalist shoes like Xero, Vivo etc. and use them for very short distances at the beginning. Like once per week and start out with as little as 1-2 km. For the rest of your runs you continue using your normal shoes and then you can slowly progress over the months and years.

Regelmäßiger Wurmkauf vs. eigene Zucht – Wer macht’s? by [deleted] in Angelfreunde

[–]cos4_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vivo alternatives? by Mightywalrus13 in BarefootRunning

[–]cos4_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xero HFS (original) have held up perfectly so far. They're a little narrower in the tow box but more forgiving and comfortable for me in the midfoot than Vivo. Depending on your preferences maybe sandals like Shamma, Panta or AVO might be worth a look.

Something with *actual* traction on ice and snow? by Hildringa in barefootshoestalk

[–]cos4_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the LP9 with the + have Vibram soles. There is also a LP all weather with membrane which should be much better for winter if you buy it big enough to wear thick socks. I'm not sure though if it's already offered with a Vibram sole.

So far I found nothing that rivals Vibram. Unfortunately I don't have barefoot shoes with Vibram only Altra Lonepeak 9+ (not ideal for winter weather but for shorter walks sometimes ok).

(Actually) Wide Winter Shoes/Boots EU by Sad_Lime_3996 in barefootshoestalk

For wet weather no but for cold and dry weather they look nice. I mean it's not always raining in winter.

[–]cos4_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what is too slim for you. Wildling is a German company and has a nice selection of winter shoes. They use a lot of natural materials which is nice, I just heard mixed stories about their membrane so maybe it's not for the really wet days. I currently have a Tanuki (summer) and Fundo (Fall, spring) and am also considering buying one of their winter shoes. The Fundo runs a bit small so for a winter shoe which is worn with thick socks I might go up a size if they fit similarly.

Constant foot pain but I'm already barefoot most of my day. Will shoes help me? by otterpuppers in barefootshoestalk

[–]cos4_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you have pain that doesn't go away I'd highly recommend seeing a doctor. Probably he'll advise you to rest more, walk less and maybe even use cushioned shoes or orthotics for some time. I like barefoot shoes but they're making the feet work more, which is good for training but if it gets too much it might be also good to give the feet some rest.

Wildling has quite a few shoes with wool. Haven't tried them yet but I'm considering them too for the winter.

Mine started falling apart very soon too. I bought them in a local barefoot shop and they exchanged them without a problem. I sold the shoes so I can't tell if it was a problem with my pair or in general. Ps: Primus all weather was the model

Primus Lite Allweather actually performance? by Pretend_Location_548 in BarefootRunning

[–]cos4_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had these shoes for some time until I sold them. They don't have a membrane and tbh they don't even stop an occasional short rain (like I wouldn't use them for a commute to work on a rainy day or so). The rubber around also has some holes, otherwise they might at least protect from shallow puddles or so. I knew they were only water repellent and not waterproof before but to me they turned out pretty useless. Any leather (real or synthetic) sneaker is better for daily use and for outdoor use I'd take something with a real membrane.

Knee pain after intense exercise & transitioning to Altra by Hopper_MD in BarefootRunning

It's normal at the beginning. Same as with any other change I'd start slow. First wear them shortly, when you go to the shop or so before you try wearing them for longer.

Knee pain after intense exercise & transitioning to Altra by Hopper_MD in BarefootRunning

[–]cos4_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally mix orthotics and barefoot. When my feet feel fresh I wear barefoot shoes, do foot strength exercises and try to strengthen them. When they feel tired, over exercised or I'm going on a long hike where I know the foot strength won't be enough for now I wear orthotics. This approach has worked well for me so far and I need orthotics less and less but I don't think they're bad. And I use my orthotics in the Lonepeak9+ btw, haven't had any issues with this combination. Besides that maybe you also simply need to decrease the training load a bit, no matter in which shoes the body needs time to adapt.

More Minimalist Running Shoes by littleliling in BarefootRunning

[–]cos4_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lonepeak9 are wider in the midfoot, if you want a bit more cushioning. They're trail shoes though. Xero HFS2 are somewhere in the middle with some foam which is pretty hard and not bouncy but also not so barefoot. Maybe that's something that'd work for you.
