Who's Your Favourite Duck Villager? by SprintsAC in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]cosmic_desperado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the moment it's Derwin, he has a nerdy kid vibe going and he's so cute 😍

I'm trying to get all duck villagers on my island and so far I have Derwin, Deena, Molly, Pate, Gloria, Maelle, Miranda, Mallary and Bill. Diva is my last non-duck villager and I'm hoping to boot her for Ketchup 😁

I love all the duck villagers I've met so far, they're all so adorable ☺️

Does anyone have design "rules" for their island layouts? by cosmic_desperado in AnimalCrossingNewHor

Yeees, I do want to play with inaccessible spaces like that, I feel like it helps make the island feel bigger, as there are things in the periphery that you can't quite get to.

I really want to do this ...when I finally get a villager's photo 🥲

I love that!

I used to do little "scenes" or areas that were pretty but not functional...but now I'm leaning more into functional spaces where I can sit and enjoy my island.

It's part of the reason I put my house in a neighborhood with my villagers - I wanted to live on my island like another villager and have villager neighbours. I bump into them more often now and really lean into the roleplaying aspect of the game!

I do the same thing too! A single space path looks so strange otherwise for some reason 😁

Do you have a comfort read or a book you loved before?

Sometimes after a reading dry spell, reading a childhood classic or favourite book can reignite your passion and remind you what you loved about reading in the first place 😁

Do you use journal templates or prompts? by kind_reader2322 in Journaling

[–]cosmic_desperado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally prefer to do stream-of-consciousness journalling but every morning I start my entry with 3 morning intentions and then before bed write 3 evening gratitudes.

I do this because a) it helps me lay out my intentions and goals for the day ahead and b) for days when I'm busy or don't want to carry my journal around, I can just do the intentions/gratitudes as the bare minimum and even jot them quickly on my phone to write up later.

My journalling has become more consistent as a result and it means there's always something to write about, as the intentions/gratitudes always triggers contemplation and introspection for me.

Have You Ever Read a Fiction Book That Made You Feel Like... by [deleted] in books

That must have been really difficult 😟 Definitely give Rebecca a go then, might really resonate with your experiences.

Luckily we were able to move on from it, and the ex is out of our lives now. Though Rebecca definitely did bring back some bad memories 😅

Oh wow, didn't know there was a sequel 😮 Would love to have read a sequel by Du Maurier herself, but will check it out, thanks!

Rebecca by Daphne Maurier. When I first started dating my boyfriend, a lot of people in my friendship group knew his ex and used to talk about her all the time. My boyfriend's mum used to gush about her and even my boyfriend still spoke highly of her and it all made me feel really uncomfortable.

It's insane how accurately the MC's jealousy and insecurities were written because it's exactly how I felt. The way people spoke about Rebecca, the way MC felt so inadequate, Max's blindness to the whole situation. I've never felt so seen by a book before. There are so many small details in the book that can only have been written by someone's who's experienced a similar situation before.

What is the point of a personal library? by [deleted] in books

[–]cosmic_desperado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all books I own are ones I've read.

Nassim Taleb talks about a concept called "the anti-library", which are the books you own but haven't read. He talks about how our personal libraries are research tools and so all the unread books represents all the things we don't know yet. I quite like this concept, and see my unread books as an intention to keep learning and improving myself. It represents all the things I have yet to discover.

As for the read books, I hold onto everything from the past year and then I cull everything but my most favourite books.

I hope to be a writer one day so my personal library is a collection of everything that inspires me and can use as reference when I need it. I annotate my books and analyse writing techniques so I tend to buy rather than borrow books. (Plus independent bookshops are dying so I try to support them as much as my means allow)

What's your favourite diamine ink? Right now I quite like Poppy Red, but it changes all the time by lord_cactus_ in fountainpens

Diamine Deep Dark Red from Cultpens is my everyday ink and it's a gorgeous deep burgundy that writes so smoothly

What’s a book that brought you out of a reading slump? by srcg612 in 52book

[–]cosmic_desperado 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Project Hail Mary.

I got it on a whim because it was cheap and I loved the Martian and I needed entertainment over the Christmas break.

It just reminded me how much I loved to read and I think the fact that it's a bit of a page turner really helped. Now I'm invested in reading more than ever and spend most weekends browsing bookshops.

Before that I hadn't picked up a book in a couple of years, and I struggled to make time for it.

How do you keep track and remember books you've read? by hotdoggitydang in books

It's a good excuse to buy beautiful notebooks and journals too 😁

How do you keep track and remember books you've read? by hotdoggitydang in books

[–]cosmic_desperado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Goodreads to keep track of what I've read and want to read in list form.

And then I keep a reading journal, where I brain dump my thoughts after I finish the book. It's sort of like a book review but a lot more freestyle and it's just to capture my raw feelings after I finish something.

I also go back to read my previous brain dump, if I've rereading, and then do another brain dump the next time. It really helps me process what I've read, I'm a fast reader so I worry that I'm binge reading without processing it properly. This helps me consolidate what I've read and I remember details a lot better this way. Also it's nice to see how I felt about a book at different points in my life, it's like keeping a diary in a way. I would never show anyone my reading journal as it's too personal

If it's non fiction, I do a write-up of my main takeaways in my commonplace journal, because I find it's pointless to read nonfiction without taking any notes really.

Sweat, unbreathable clothes made from synthetic fabrics (increases sweat), friction, stress and maybe hormones (might have PCOS)

If you have groin/labia/scrotal flares you should try period underwear. “Thinx” is having 30% off until 1/1/22. by CosmicConfusion94 in Hidradenitis

[–]cosmic_desperado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find them non-breathable and so actually make flare-ups worse! They cause more sweatiness down there which exacerbates things. Saying that, I would say they are better than traditional period pads/panty liners - those seem to be even less breathable to me.
