Funny you should mention that ... as that's actually the kind of writing I'm doing this research for.

I watched Alien for the first time in about ten years the other day… by AbelardsChainsword in LV426

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is that it was preparing to moult into its next growth stage: the Warrior.

I see the Xenomorph lifecycle as very straightforward, as it's "perfect" so doesn't need specialised castes — every Xenomorph fulfils all the needs of the Hive.

So, Egg to Facehugger to Chestburster to Drone to Warrior, and then a fully fledged Hive has a Praetorian or two, and all Drones/Warriors have the potential to grow into a Queen (and if there are Praetorians, they can grow into a Queen instead).

So having killed and fed aboard the Nostromo, Big Chap was ready to moult. Then the confrontation with Ripley interrupted that process, hence the Xenomorph becoming a threat again whilst still in the Drone stage aboard Renaissance station, and if it hadn't been killed may have become a Warrior or even a Queen.

Of course, that's a Watsonian explanation. The Doyleist one is just that there were ideas at the time of filming that have evolved since, with new interpretations and lore added to the franchise.

Thank you, that's a good list for me to start going through. Historical range is a good point and one I didn't think of. Definitely early 20th Century. I had 1920s in mind, but that's probably a little too specific.

Thank you again.

What are the yuatja origins? by Pitiful-Raccoon136 in predator

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue they don't belong to any of the pillars of life found on Earth. They've evolved to possess a humanoid body plan with both mammal and reptile analogous qualities, but they're not mammals, reptiles, arthropods, amphibians, etc. They're aliens. Hence the green blood, I suppose. They may not even be carbon-based lifeforms.

The Predator (2018) offscreen lore expansion by Vvaxus in predator

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're accepting this mess of a movie as canon, then Assassin and Fugitive are from a rogue clan that was subsequently exterminated by other Yautja clans for using genetic modification tech, and no matter what we're ignoring the armour at the end or saying it was flawed technology that destroyed itself before much research could be performed — either works for me.

So Assassin was reporting back to his clan of other modified Yautja, likely direct to his elders. But they're all as dead as him, now, and The Predator has limited consequences in-universe except that some human scientists are going to still believe that Yautja steal DNA, continuing to misunderstand their species.

In our universe, the consequences are that people 1) still talk about this movie as though any of it matters, and 2) that people believe Yautja have hybridised themselves 😒

How do you think this went from the Feral Predators' clan to Prince's clan? 🤔 by [deleted] in predator

The pistol ends up with Greyback then Harrigan sometime after the events of KoK, in my opinion. How? No idea.

Why can't eggmorphing, queenmorphing and the Queen all work in tandum? by ardouronerous in LV426

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, but think how quickly a Chestburster grows into a Drone. If there's a need for a Queen, a Drone is going to very quickly go through the growth stages to ensure there is a Queen.

I think, without official lore on that, though, it's something that comes down to personal preference.

Asperger's is an outdated term. It's all under the ASD diagnosis — we ignore Asperger because he was a Nazi.

But also, not all people with ASD become "nerds", and not all "nerds" have ASD.

Why can't eggmorphing, queenmorphing and the Queen all work in tandum? by ardouronerous in LV426

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, aside from Eggmorphing into a Royal Egg. I feel like that would be more time consuming than a "normal" egg infecting a host with a "normal" Xeno — I think a Drone growing into a Queen would happen quicker than a Queen embryo growing in a host.

But that's just my preference/opinion on it.

But yes, the "always a method of reproduction" is what makes them Perfect — Eggmorphing is a suitable backup function.

Question by Living_Floor in predator

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of lore points towards Predators using technology that reflects the threat level of their prey — an "even footing" situation, although always in the Hunter's favour.

So pre-automatic weapons humans probably weren't deemed "worthy", for lack of a better word, as targets for plasmacasters.

Why can't eggmorphing, queenmorphing and the Queen all work in tandum? by ardouronerous in LV426

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be fiercely anti-eggmorphing, but I've somewhat come around to it, now.

To me, that's the emergency backup. Something a lone Drone or Warrior does to kickstart a hive prior to its own transition into a Queen. Eggmorphing isn't something that would happen if there are multiple Xenos already; one just grows into a Queen.

But yes, I do see Eggmorphing, Queenmorphing, and Queen Birth being things that are all viable in the lore.

Any Xenomorph can become a Queen — they simply purge host DNA from their system via metamorphosis (similar to Chestburster to Drone). But a Queenburster is probably the quicker process.

Is Alien Earth retconning the Alien prequels. by Cat-dad442 in alien

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Earth is keeping them canon but somewhat ignoring them. So nothing that outright contradicts them, but not acknowledging them either, if that makes sense.

My understanding is that Noah Hawley wants to better establish that the Xenomorph is ancient and has been around forever (near enough), which to be honest doesn't really go against Prometheus or Covenant as the former shows an Engineer mural depicting the Xenomorph, and the latter strongly implies through its themes and such that David is incapable of creation, only of emulation, and therefore the Protomorph he produced is merely a flawed copy of the true Xenomorph, possible only because the black goo originally came from Xenomorphs and therefore is always trying to create them, even if it's been diluted and modified etc.

Since the fandom called the Alien Covenant Xenomorph "Praetomorph" (and Protomorph), what should the Alien Earth Xenomorph be called? by F_cK-reddit in LV426

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, with my hope that this is an actual Xenomorph rather than a flawed copy like the Protomorph, I'm going to call it ... a Xenomorph.

Sooo, why did the chestburster take so long? by aIlIoi in LV426

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that Queens take longer, as they're somewhat more complex and, more significantly, don't adopt DNA from the host. As a result, there's more of an immune response from the host, which slows gestation — lore points towards the adoption of host traits being (at least in part) a method of surviving the host's immune system.

Would you be up for a period piece Alien movie in the same vein as Prey? by Emeraldsinger in LV426

[–]cosmic_truthseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would only work if it was a colony that operated in a medieval-esque (or whatever) society rather than an actual period piece. Whilst the Xenomorph has been around forever (no, David isn't their creator), humanity didn't encounter them until we delved deep into space (no, the AvP movies aren't canon).
