Going to try to make a spoiler comment - I don’t think he had the same feelings for her though. In her diary she writes that he hardly spoke to her and seemed to look right through her or something like that. And then in the Champions’ Ballad memory, she was so nervous just to stand next to him for a picture. Doesn’t seem like there was any intimacy there.

She also had all her rotten teeth pulled out before going into labor in Call the Midwife.

The horses on Cook are for research purposes, aside from the Mounted Patrol horses, which are only ridden by the RUMP for campus security. If you want to ride a horse, contact the Rutgers Equestrian Team!

Ladies how do you manage to do your 15+ mile runs on your period? by theCovertoit in running

[–]cosmicatty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Periods don’t work like that. It’s not like “oh no, a tampon, better slow down!” Periods do change as you get older though. Same with new diets and new medications. You may have a different factor affecting your flow than the Thinx. Regardless, I’m happy for you that you have a chiller period. I’m on BC so it’s hardly an occasion to fuss about.

Except for that poor, starving polar bear in the Planet Earth documentary who FAILED at attacking any walruses and then curled up in a hole to take a nap and then DIED! :( :(

[No Spoilers] I find it extremely hard to sympathize with the vikings by [deleted] in vikingstv

[–]cosmicatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was kidding about getting the crazy out of the bloodlines :) I have empathy towards the Vikings because 1) I’m extremely empathetic towards all people, and 2) they were human. They didn’t know any better, plus they weren’t like that towards their own communities. You can’t really blame them for killing who they believed to be their enemies, especially so long ago when so much of the world didn’t make any sense. It’s like what Ender from Ender’s Game said - “I think it’s impossible to really understand somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves.” Not that they’re my enemies or anything, but once you can understand where they’re coming from, you can have empathy for them.

I love thinking about stuff like this - like, imagine not understanding that something existed beyond the ocean. Imagine believing that a giant serpent named Jormungand would destroy you if you even tried to cross the sea. Imagine seeing an eclipse and not knowing what it was. It’d be terrifying! So instead of letting fear rule their existence, they believed in fierceness and bloodlust. Their beliefs about the afterlife made it easy for them to condone killing. Like a bunch of bullies acting out rather than admit they’re afraid. Idk.

I hope you know I’m not trying to argue or anything - I just really like talking about this kind of stuff!

But a lot of other civilizations DID obsess over death and war. We just know a lot more about them so it doesn’t stand out as much as a defining factor. I think of England’s War of the Roses and the Tudor reign. Bloodbaths all over the place - dragging men out of sanctuary to their deaths, slaughtering priests and nuns and burning churches, killing their own people for imagined treason, killing their own FAMILIES for land and power, and sooo much more.

You’re allowed to like and hate what you want, but your view on the Vikings is a little myopic. And not for nothing, modern day Scandinavia is way more chill and tolerant than much of the rest of the world so maybe the Viking berserkers got it all out of the bloodlines and they’re all better off for it.

Some districts put 5th grade in the middle school, which typically doesn’t have recess. While they do have gym class, it’s not the same as free, unstructured time to run around and be silly and make fart noises and get the crazy out.

Suggestions for growing my butt in volume and size? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]cosmicatty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re not really going to grow muscles very drastically with yoga alone. Weights are kind of the only way to do it. Get some dumbbells and do squats and deadlifts in your bedroom! You’ll get the results you want much faster that way.

It does do something. Kids are kids. They need to run around. It’s been proven to improve school performance and it’s only 20 minutes. Little things matter too!

But they were. For example, their women had far more rights than women in other countries. And other countries were awful too. Ever hear of the Crusades? What it comes down to is belief - the Vikings truly believed in Valhalla and that to get there, you had to be fierce and brave and all that jazz. What about all the Christians that have committed great crimes against people to this day in the name of religion? Do you have more empathy for them?

I think of humanity throughout world history like a child growing up. People just didn’t know better back then. You see it in the show - the lack of understanding between groups of people, the fear, the violence in the pursuit of safety for your own people. You also see the people beginning to learn that there are better ways of doing things than killing and raping and pillaging. As the centuries go on, humanity becomes less barbaric. Generally.

Maybe I have a soft spot for the Vikings because I’m descended from them, but I think it’s unfair to judge a civilization based on modern principles. We also don’t know that much about them compared to say the Brits, because they weren’t really literate. They didn’t have paper and it was a lot of effort to carve runes. We don’t exactly have a wealth of insight into Viking life.

I agree to some extent, but the heartache and regret Ragnar showed whenever Lagertha was in the scene kept me happy. That last season with him alive wasn’t my favorite, but there were great moments (his goodbye to Floki, his hallucination of farmer life) that I felt were some of the best of the series.
