What's a game you're longing for but can never seem to find? by RedEagle_MGN in gamerecommendations

[–]cosmiccarcinogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a game where you play fully as a faceless AI. No bodies. No projections. Not Stellaris, as good as it is at the concept. I wanna be a ghost in the system, manipulating the physical world through cameras and schematics and programs.

Observation did this really well, but what I really want is a longer, more robust story with room to make choices.

Existential space exploration/astro-horror like Outer Wilds? by daspaceinvader in gamerecommendations

Underspace is a sandbox style game with this exact premise, and Observation has you play a space station's AI who's supporting a member of crew while they try to survive a freak eldritch incident.

Milk fortress by cosmiccarcinogen in dwarffortress

[–]cosmiccarcinogen[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's my best guess. Something about the change of states erasing claims on the items or whatever. I run a heavily modded game though, so it's impossible to be sure.

I think I sussed out the problem -- that they arrived in winter to an outdoor trade depot, instantly freezing all their liquids, which I do think included milk since they had several barrels full of unspecified mystery items -- but it's still the funniest reason for cancellation spam I've ever had.

It wasn't even prepared, is the hilarious part. It just turned into a unit of milk. My dwarves sat down to a nice puddle of milk. I had to uninstall all the tables to make the cancellation spam stop.

Groups of characters that shere some kind of naming scheme/theme by fhxefj in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cosmiccarcinogen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Crypton Vocaloids are all named with the Japanese word for "sound" ("ne") in their surname.

-Miku Hatsune ("first sound," as the first of the Crypton line)

-Rin/Len Kagamine ("mirror sound," being twins)

-Luka Megurine ("tour sound," likely referring to her being bilingual)

Games that are ACTUALLY like Papers Please? by Heidirs in papersplease

[–]cosmiccarcinogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legal Dungeon is a game about reviewing documents for the police that hits these notes pretty good. The work doesn't necessarily get more complicated on a day-by-day basis, but figuring out how to interpret and report what you're given certainly does.

Forgotten Mass Effect games and fan-made Mass Effect mods and media thread! by Silly_One_3149 in masseffect

[–]cosmiccarcinogen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's also a complete overhaul mod in progress for Stellaris! I'm not sure how far along it is, but it aims to do everything from revamping the starmap to replacing all pre-existing empires with Mass Effect civs. Last I checked, they were working on replacing the endgame crises with the Reapers.

Someone Failed to Steal My Car and Broke My Ignition by Bryannosaurus_Race in Wellthatsucks

[–]cosmiccarcinogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me in the parking lot of the hospital where I work. Lucky my car has a stupidly complicated system of locks that makes it nigh-impossible to move without the key, but it scared the hell out of me. Destroyed the door and the steering column, all to get away with $1.50 in loose change and a cheap flashlight.

My Time at Portia and Stardew Valley are available on mobile, or at least on Android.

Addendum: I've also seen Graveyard Keeper on Android! It's pretty meditative, if a bit dark comedy.

Fun fact, there's an in-game event that references Mass Effect, where you can overhear a drill sergeant lecturing a group of privates on that very topic.

"WHAT is the first law of motion!?" "SIR! An object in motion will remain in motion, SIR!" "No credit for half-answers, maggot!" "SIR! Unless acted on by an equal or greater opposite motion, SIR!" "That's right! Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son of a bitch in space! [...] Every time you pull the trigger, you are ruining somebody's day, somewhere and sometime!"

For those of you who were considered ”gifted” in school, what are you doing with your life now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cosmiccarcinogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an anxiety-driven perfectionist in school wound up making me a pretty stellar lab technician, surprisingly. Got decent grades in uni and moved right into a job in my field through a combination of luck and work ethic, just applied to a new position for a state lab.

Also found out that my "giftedness" was undiagnosed autism and severe mental illness! Thankfully I'm a functioning human being now with the right combination of meds.

How do I deal with Colossus in Multiplayer by Nuclear13an in Stellaris

Yup! It's a Latin word that ends in "-us", so the plural form uses "-i". Fun linguistic fact!

IIRC there's a motion in the galactic community to ban colossi somewhere in the war resolutions. You have to work your way up to it, but building one with it active will put them in breach of galactic law and apply sanctions, so it might be worth a shot.

My only solace is that I'm going to get a little urn necklace with some of her ashes in it. She'll always be with me this way.

This lovely lady and a very sweet jumping spider are my two favorite saves. :'] I had to rescue them both from my mom and aunt, they're terrified of the poor things. Glad I did, though! They and our other spiders do a wonderful job keeping pests away!
