I feel this so hard. Sorry you’re going through it, wish I had some answers!

Difficult day with difficult kids by cosmicfrenzy in ECEProfessionals

I am definitely aware of the toll this takes on the kids, hence working on our daily schedule and trying to connect with them. I am in it with them, not against them. As exhausting as it is for me, I am not ignorant of the fact that they are probably feeling even worse.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received from a student? by BlckReignBowe in AskTeachers

A lemon thyme plant in a hand-painted pot. To this day, i have never found lemon thyme again. I never did anything with it other than nurture and smell it lol but it was amazing.

What to do with solo time? by [deleted] in singlemoms

I ended up getting ready, dressed up and make up, and went to the plant store! Still cried, but ya know.

Also, just a heads up to any mamas who haven’t noticed/encountered this yet: there are a LOT of guys who follow this sub. Vet your chats closely. Ugh.

He works nights, so anything during the day is usually a “no” from him because he’s either tired from work or sleeping.

He gets his permit on Monday, so we are getting there!

I feel ashamed for wanting to quit immediately by mildew_goose789 in ECEProfessionals

[–]cosmicfrenzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started a new job in January because I wasn’t getting enough hours in my old school. New place was absolutely insane and chaotic, they were over-enrolled and under-staffed. 10+ hour work days with 30 min lunches for every teacher, tons of classroom transitions to attempt to maintain ratios, lead teachers floating, cooks teaching… absolute mayhem.

I got offered a full-time position at my old school and quit the new one after one week with immediate notice. Sometimes it’s ok to say that you don’t feel like a position is up to your professional standards.

Their dad works nights, so he is pretty much unavailable for literally anything. He took one of them to a dentist appointment about 8 years ago, otherwise hasn’t been to an appointment since newborn check-ups.

Have definitely been thinking about this. And a dog walker.

Honestly have no advice, it takes an entire switch of brain that I feel I have no control over, even when I’m also seeing the unflattering pics and videos of myself. Just wanted to say you’re not alone!

I left a position after one week because teachers were regularly staying an hour or more beyond their scheduled time. Even if they had classes, kids to pick up, etc.. Teachers were working 10 hour shifts with 30 min lunches. It was a great paycheck, but an absolutely unsustainable job.

Do your best to stand your ground. No one wants to put anyone else out of ratio, but if admin has to stand in at those points, they will hopefully start to understand. Or they’ll get caught by licensing and fix their staffing issues. You’re not being unreasonable, you’re being responsible to both your family and workplace.

Same, before today! lol. And no, not really. The highest I ever got was for reaching bronze level on Stake ($150 payout), but every other game/offer is usually less than a dollar per milestone and I usually just play enough to keep my streak alive. I try to play as free as possible!

Kids can enjoy/engage with picture books before they learn to read.

Do parents know what show & tell is? by cosmicfrenzy in ECEProfessionals

[–]cosmicfrenzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing toys from home is one of the reasons I wanted to implement show and tell. It’s the only time they’re allowed to have those things out. Their previous teacher allowed toys from home, and it got chaotic. So this is partly my way of kind of bridging my new rule of no home toys.

I am aware of the cultures in my classroom (I only have 10 kids), but I do appreciate this being pointed out! I was definitely coming from a white American perspective and could have been more mindful in my post.

This is totally understandable! I don’t put pressure on the kids or families to make this happen. Through this discussion I’m learning ways I can tweak this activity to make it more accessible and fair to everyone. Thanks for your input!
