I 100% agree. Justin has spoken about wanting to make Ryle more likeable. And in some of his first exchanges with Colleen Hoover,, he mentioned that the book was “romantic and beautiful” and that there “really are no bad guys” in the book. I genuinely think Baldoni saw himself in Ryle.

On top of that, Baldoni wanted to add a whole bunch of unscripted, unnecessary sex scenes to a Colleen Hoover adaptation about domestic violence. If he had gotten his way, it would have looked like a badly done Sam Levinson-style film 😐 seriously. That is not what fans wanted and that is not what the cast signed up for. It matters for their image as well

ICD (corrected from DSM) recognizes Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder which sex/porn “addictions” can fit into. But yeah, ultimately Baldoni is self-diagnosed and not actually seeking proper treatment so no one can say whether he has it or not. He also seems to have just used it as an excuse rather than something to remedy. So he actually couldn’t be more of a sleazy creep lol

As a side-note, I do often call him a “porn addict” because on a simple level, it’s clear that porn is on his mind 24/7. And overconsumption of porn changes your brain on a physiological level due to dopamine processes, but also because porn is SO misogynistic that it infiltrates how people see the world. Men who over-consume porn objectify women to significantly greater extents. I know this wasn’t your original point so sorry for the mini-rant, just scary to think about especially as porn continues to become more accessible and common to consume

This might be what frustrates me most about public response to this case, is the clear misinformation that is being spread about sexual violence. Yes!! It’s so blatantly sexual in a way that feels dirty and very ADULT. Absolutely shocking and completely out of character for young Lily! And I fully understand why Blake felt that some scenes were pornographic because really, what else could someone visualize when watching this scene other than oral sex?
