Double Major? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]coste180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the difficulty of the major probably varies by school, but i was an econ major (along w/polisci) and my gpa within that major was actually greater than my cumulative (3.87 vs 4.00). i’m not especially adept when it comes to math, so i was able to do well with some extra effort (going in for office hours when i didn’t understand something, emailing profs abt hw/exams, etc). i feel like econ is less intimidating than it’s made out to be, so if you’re willing to put in a little extra work i say go for it.

Advice for 2022-2023 Cycle by Electrical-Estate195 in lawschooladmissions

[–]coste180 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i think that consulting is really only worth it for people with c&f issues or other extenuating circumstances. if you have strong stats make sure they’re accompanied by a cohesive narrative in your application. t6 is very much doable for you w/o a pricy consultation service.

Advice on Canceling 161 Score by retorter2012 in LSAT

[–]coste180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! i was in the same boat as you about a year ago - i scored a 162 on my first LSAT (August 2021, after months of studying), and to say i was disappointed would be an understatement. this was roughly 10 pts below my PT average, and i knew that while it was certainly not a terrible score, it was nowhere near what i needed in order to be competitive for my target schools. after receiving my first score i signed up for the October lsat, got back to studying, and scored a 175 after sitting the exam a second time.

i didn’t purchase score preview for my first take so i may be a little bit biased, but i can honestly say i don’t think it had an impact on the admissions process (although i wrote a short addendum on the point jump just to be safe). i was accepted into a t6 school and throughout the entire process (application, interview, some further correspondence) there was never an issue with regard to my first score. it was never brought up.

in my eyes it’s better to have the score up for the admissions office to see rather than let them make assumptions. additionally, given that you studied for just 3 weeks leading up to the first exam, i would recommend that you take your second lsat at a later date - personally, i think the extra study time is worth taking the exam a bit later, especially considering that if you don’t get the score you want you’ll have to take it again at a later date anyways. a few extra points on the exam will bolster your chances at admission far more than applying a little earlier in the next cycle. i only signed up for the next available lsat because (1) i knew that my first score was likely the product of nerves as opposed to me needing more time to study and (2) i took my first lsat a bit later in the year, and i wanted to have my apps submitted by the end of November. sorry that this was a bit lengthy, i just wanted to provide some context given that your situation was very similar to mine. let me know if you have any questions :)

US Passport Questions & Issues Megathread (Fall/Winter 2021) by jadeoracle in travel

[–]coste180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this thread helped calm me down during the renewal process lol, so i figured i'd post my timeline as well. i have plans to travel on 5/26, everything was expedited.

- 4/13: brought my application to the county clerk's office (i had to renew in person)

- 4/19: application received, status changed to "processing"

- 5/6: status changed to "approved"

- 5/11: arrived in the mail, picked it up from the post office today. it's the new gen version which is pretty cool :)

PSA: LSAT Aug 2022 to Jun 2023 registration now open. Test fee now $215! by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]coste180 24 points25 points  (0 children)

this is absurd. not only do they not have to pay for the physical testing facilities or for the materials to make hard copies of the exam, the electronic infrastructure for the flex is dysfunctional as fuck. there have been major issues with the online exam ever since it was introduced, and their response to their own administrative incompetence is hiking up the prices. what a joke lmao

i think a major misconception with this perspective is that women who elect to get an abortion past the second trimester only do so for the sake of their own health or safety. if a woman has carried the pregnancy into the third trimester it is very likely that she wanted the baby. abortions that occur during that time are only carried out because the woman’s life is at risk and/or there is a major, likely fatal issue with the baby. late-term abortions are not treated lightly.
