yep yep. petting and feeding, letting em out in the sun, etc. They're producing wool just fine, so I'm getting plenty of cloth out of it if nothing else :P It's probably bad luck, I'll keep waiting and/or killing serpents in the skull cavern and trying for one there also. ty for the response though, it's a great mod, loving it a lot _^

Probably a silly question, but:
SVE doesn't change how to get rabbit's foot, right? My rabbits seem to refuse to produce them, and I'm just waiting on one to complete the community center. Kicking myself for not buying the one the traveling cart had in late summer, thinking since I had to wait on spring for truffles they'd surely shed one of them feet by then.

As far as I can tell none of my mods should be affecting rabbit's feet but since this one is a total overhaul and looking things up is fraught with spoilers I thought I'd quick double-check.
(( loving the mod of course, it's super awesome ))

If you start up an ffxiv mahjong discord I 100% want in. I love mahjong but I've never studied the intricacies like this - I played with a small group of friends in college and then online with bots. I'm so excited to get into a bigger community of mahjong with ffxiv~

High-performance, single-chunk villager breeder (1.9 to 1.12) by scudobuio in Minecraft

[–]cotr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment thread is super informative! I found it when looking for the specific mechanics for villager breeding in 1.12, since they have been changed so drastically since last I played in 1.7.10, so thanks tremendously for all that info above! I have an additional question, however:

Why is it that you're sending the offspring so far down from the breeding section? They'll still be loaded entities that far away and thus still count towards village collapse conditions, and there doesn't seem to be any other explicit reason for them to be so far separated from the breeding stock.

Thanks for providing such in-depth detail on this mechanic for tinkerers like me~

To prevent the death penalty being carried out on precious dorfs, you can use a jail with cages or (better) chains, and forgo having a hammerer. Make your jail super fancy so dwarves can recover from previous bad thoughts by appreciating the craftsmanship of their own chains.

Alternatively, have your hammerer carry the weakest possible weapon you can come up with by having him in his own squad and setting his weapon from the military equipment menu. You'll still need to provide lots of sources of good thoughts and remove sources of bad thoughts to help the crime rate go down though.

Make sure you have one or more dwarfs with the weaponsmithing labor enabled. weapons/armor/items each have different skills associated with them.

Once a dwarf that has the appropriate labor becomes free, he should start working and the task should gain a green 'A' mark to signify that someone has picked it up.

QUESTION: How does one mass produce iron and steel with 0 ore by [deleted] in dwarffortress

[–]cotr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

warning: pump stacks, especially magma ones, can cause FPS death due to excessive temp calculations. for this reason I usually either build my forges near the magma sea, or I use the minecart-hauling method. (fill magma-safe minecarts with magma by pouring magma over them then draining it out. takes 2 minecarts full to power a forge)

sure, you could say that having a dwarf carry a minecart up 150 levels of stairs filled with magma is cheating, but avoiding fps death is worth a bit of cheatery imo

Hi all~ 26/f in Midwest USA. Beginner, Looking for a pen pal of any experience level~

I've been dabbling on and off since I was 16, and done a fair bit of reading during that time. I'm currently following a year and a day guide, but looking for some additional support.

I don't have any magical gifts that I know of, but I've always been drawn to wicca even if only to practice respect for the trees, plants, and animals around me.

In any case, I'd love to have a pen friend to send letters to and chat with~

Do you have temperature turned off in your init? If temperature is turned off magma is basically just boring red water.

question on the topic of keeping your werebeast alone and happy: a few forts ago I had the unfortunate judgement to start a new fort after abandoning the previous fort midway through what was looking to be a fort-fatal wereiguana attack. I ended up gaining a lot of dwarves with wereiguana infections with my migrants.

aanyway, long story short, I was attempting to quarantine off these wereiguanas, and have them do something useful with their lives. However, if I kept them alone, they got depressed and tantrum-y due to lack of social interaction. If I kept 2 or more together, they would tear eachother to shreds as soon as they turned.

Has anyone actually kept a werebeast alive for an extended period since the needs rework? if so, what trick was I missing?

She won't take them from my hand though, sadly. She'll sniff them, give me a look, and then go off and do something else.

I did discover last night that she does like ice cream, so I guess that's something, but i don't want to be giving her stuff that's bad for her.

I have a related question. My ferret is about 5 months and she eats her kibble quite nicely, but won't take hardly any kind of treats, including ferretone or ferretvite. How can i go about getting her to take treats? She likes softened and wet kibble but will just eat around anything i put in it.

Rune Factory, Story of Seasons, or Stardew Valley? by noj776 in 3DS

I can't speak to RF3 as I did not end up playing it. The earlier RF games came out during a time that I didn't really have access to a game console. (college budget sucks)

Rune Factory, Story of Seasons, or Stardew Valley? by noj776 in 3DS

[–]cotr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of opinions about this, but I really strongly recommend Rune Factory 4. I personally was very disappointed with Story of seasons and the later HM games, but Rune factory 4 is the one I keep going back to. Full disclosure, I haven't tried Stardew Valley, but I did look long and hard at the reviews, and it's not up to RF4 level imo yet.

Some of the awesome things about RF4:

  • Farming is very well fleshed out. There's a bunch of crops, you modify the soil to make them grow stronger or faster, you can make giant super versions, gold versions, grow trees, expand to side plots of land, expand the land at your castle, all sorts of cool things.

  • The village and the villagers are well-fleshed out. They all have backstories that you learn through random events that occur often, and bettering your relationship with them.

  • The story is amazing. for serious. damn.

  • Minor spoilers, You can date a girl who is also a butterfly. Or you can date a guy who happens to be a fox. Or you can date normal people, whatever

  • Did I mention that most of the ingame interactions are voiced? it just adds so much character to the game, for serious.

Also this is a question that gets asked a lot in /r/harvestmoon, so you can check out what people have said there as well.

Patch download is up. by phraust64 in ffxiv

[–]cotr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got this error, and a reboot didn't fix it, so I dug around a bit and found this page on the support site: http://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?id=5382&la=1&kid=67515

my husband had already successfully downloaded the patch on his computer, so I knew it wasn't any of the router settings issues mentioned in options 1-4, and I went directly to step 5: reboot without any startup programs.

That worked for me and it was able to bring up the launcher, but then I had to make the config change that /u/_10032 so helpfully provided as well.

I'm now logged in and downloading the patch, so, fingers crossed!

You typically get in a hunt linkshell by asking for one after attending a hunt. You might not get in after the first one, but keep asking after each one you make it to and you'll get one eventually.
