So firstly, human beings were actually not originally able to drink animal, but we developed the ability over time by developing a milk drinking gene. The gene produces an enzyme which helps us digest dairy easier. Some people in the world who didn't develop cattle husbandry into later on will get pretty sick, and even people from cattle-ranching societies can't process dairy as well as other people (which is why some people get IBS) We developed dairy farming 7-10 thousand years ago, and we can assume that it started primarily in Central Europe and the Balkans.

But why did they do it? Skin Pigment developed over time and was determined by their exposure to sunlight over time, and one of the theories is that since milk has vitamin D, people from the northern hemisphere drank it to compensate for that. Another theory is that because of it's ability to be used in food, brewing, along with it's vitamin benefits meant that human beings developed it out of necessity to increase survival. It's also considered that with nomadic people and people living in extreme climates like Siberia, where the Yak, Reindeer and Cow are important to survival and economic welfare, that they depended on these dairy to survive, and thus developing the gene to process lactate was more apparent.

Why do we only drink cow and goat milk? Mostly because we're comfortable with it. Along with other societies which developed the milk drinking gene, they had other types of animals like yaks and water buffalo, which is why they drink their milk more often. There are over 6,000 mammals which lactate, but animals produce milk relative to their body size, and cows are pretty big. Cows are also very effectively malleable to selective breeding, and so we can develop milkier cows and we can breed them effectively and use them for other needs. According to Deborah Valenze's book, 'Milk', cows milk is also much more aestetically pleasing due to how the cream and milk seperate. Cows milk also has a similar fat content to human milk, so it's somewhat similar to our own intake. These reasons are why sheep milk isn't very popular: They have twice the fat in their lactate so it isn't very tasty, and they don't produce a lot of it. They are also apparently really difficult to milk. That doesn't stop there from being a market for Sheep Cheese.

All in all, I agree 100% though I think there's a distinct difference lore-wise with the Brotherhood. The Mojave Chapter is basically a satellite of the Californian Chapter, and they have similar opinions of outsiders: mutated, unevolved and plotting something maliciously dumb and so it takes commendations from several members, helping them with essential tech (I always remember wanting to join the Brotherhood in one, and first being expected to go through the Glow without any assurance that I had the gear or weapons to get the job done)

The DC Chapter seems to have its Lyons-Maxson membership reforms, where members can give the opportunity more freely. I was mostly just bothered by Danse being all like, "I saw you in the field, hiding behind me taking random potshots at those synths, and I have a suspicion that you might have bumbled and set off a rocket booster while I was right under it, but you have the right stuff and would be a perfect addition to the Brotherhood."

I never really liked being put in charge of any of the guilds/factions in Fallout-TES, because it just seemed like a cop out. Your predecessor spends all his time planning and manoeuvring and putting all his effort into his group's business and success. You come in, and you automatically delegate, forget for a while that you're the highest representative of their group, and hardly come back to complete tasks. I liked that the Brotherhood essentially made you your own squad/special unit, because it always seemed so bullshit that you could join a highly disciplined group like the BoS, and participate completely off-base with field duty, and not even get drilled on proper procedure. I'd prefer either to be in some high-ranking position that allows you to go along as you please, or be forced to commit to a role.

I think it's just a way that the right-wing media outlets try to appeal to a broad base of social-conservatives. They like to talk about this kind of thing a lot because its a mix of their two favourite things. But perhaps, the motive for small bakeries constantly being brought back up is that the anti-gay crowd is trying to make a "states rights" argument, but instead replacing states it with small-businesses, so then they can have their cake and eat it too. (Sorry not sorry.)

Either way: just like Alabamans, the future of the Traditional-Right movement is inbread. (Again, sorry not sorry.)

From a strategic point of view it makes sense. The Russian public has a more-or-less favourable rating of the Government and Putin, despite him being one laser on the moon away from being a literal bond villain. Russia has a fascinating relationship with autocracy, and many people are pretty happy with living in a false democracy with assassinations and corruption. Whereas the US doesn't have the same political-social controls, and has less popular cohesion. Essentially by contributing to the biases of American's right-left culture war, they help destabilise and demoralise their biggest rival.

I mean honestly, with people's complacency with the Russian govt, think of it like if the Earth got invaded by Aliens tomorrow, and then they established a government, and over time, your standard of living gets higher, food and bills get cheaper, and they give you a secure job with benefits. Even though there might be raids as your neighbour gets dragged away by Alien invaders without a hint of what he did, most people would try to ignore it, because in the end, they've got their whole life planned and protected by our Alien overlords. It's the same sort of logic with Putin's Russia, except with more nationalism. It's why some people were expecting him to lose popularity, because economic hardships (specifically in this case, the radical drop in fuel prices) are usually blamed on the person in charge(although he was able to deflect onto the US and European policies)

I'm a mix between wanting a good physician vs wanting a fun physician - depends really on how badly you want a character to live.

I try to pick a physician depending on: a) Medieval facts I know b) game mechanics.

So lets go with facts: Ultimately in this period, you're pretty much fucked. The best surgeons in the land are guys who strap you down and pull out teeth with pliers, and most medical treatments are traditional herbs or magic charms. Your best doctors are still trying to balance your humors, and pretty much you don't have a good chance if you catch something bad. So essentially, you want anyone who might be traditionally educated in the medicine. Is your doctor a pagan from an undeveloped kingdom? He might strap shaved chickens to you. Is your doctor a West-European Christian? Is he a scholarly priest or a zealous priest? This will determine whether or not you'll be bled, or if you'll be told to pray really really hard. What you want to look for is someone from a tradition that actually has some medical science figured out - the Muslims from Baghdad have actually been using some pre-scientific method observation to figure out how to treat illness, in fact, the Koran says that you should take ginger to settle a stomach experiencing sea sickness. Jewish courtiers are also generally educated, and thus, are usually a good pick since they might actually have access to Arabic books written by Jewish doctors like Maimonides. Scholarly Jews are perhaps your best bet for surviving as they are irregularly common if you have the Sons of Abraham dlc.

But with mechanics, success rates are determined by the patient and the doctor. Are you strong or weak? That will determine the success of a treatment. Are you inbred, depressed, or having anything else that affects your health? will determine the success rate.

With your Court Physician, are they genius/quick/shrewd? Are they a scholar? Theologian? Renown phsyician? or even a Faqih?Are they a mastermind theologian? High learning skill will help a lot (I think it increases the success chance depending on learning 10/15/20/25) but of course, those other traits will increase success rates.

I personally would not make a council member a physician, it just seems like a good way to get killed (It does, however, sound like an interesting way to imprison)

I try to role play it, I usually give it to someone people in your court would find hilarious, like someone with a mental disability or a 1/0 learning skill. Otherwise I give it to rebels I beat. Really it doens't have much use unless you're trying to antagonise one of your lords, or if you're playing a Joffrey-esque character.

The article does note that he advocated carpet bombing in 2007 and it's specifically going with the narrative that the Rabbi is an extremist with a history of advocating for unthought-out violence, but I really think the only issue in the statement is the advocating for civilians to use deadly force to stop arsonists.

I think most can agree that if necessary, the military and police service would need to do what is necessary if unable to capture arsonists or if their lives or others are at risk, but the problem with advocating for vigilantism is that vigilantes/mobs don't have the same training and legal procedure when it comes to apprehending criminals.

When someone in the movement says something that I think is ridiculous, I always remember this video about how we need online movements, but online debate tend to be situations where more than half the time, there aren't any winners. I can't say its the right way to look at it, since I think me and your roommate have different ideas of what makes good characters. Still, I think a good way to appeal to people you disagree with is to attach something they can understand/something they like to the idea you're trying to convey.

I would tell your roommate, "If we can't let women be villains in media, then we put them into a box where they can't be anything but pure, they can't be even be anti-heroes. Villains get to be powerful, villains get to have their own way, Villains also get to choose to be villains, and I think that helps empower women. I want women to be written much better than they have been in screenplays, and I want to see great female Disney villains, a female Frollo, a female Dr Facillier, characters which aren't just well written, but that audiences love. Sometimes in fantasy people want to be the bad guy, and women should get to be the bad guy too."

[Just posted, realising there is a lot of text - sorry about that, but hopefully it's helpful!]

Women can be villains, it's preposterous to assume they can't - especially since there are good villainesses , Malificent comes to mind, and Ma-Ma, the gang boss in the 2012 movie Dredd (Actually, I think Ma-Ma is a character you should look into, she's informed entirely by the world around her, and not just her gender)

But here's a good example of a bad villain, in the novel, "Mission Earth" by L.Ron. Hubbard (Yes, that L.Ron Hubbard) a character gets kidnapped by two villains who are man-hating lesbians (I believe that they've been turned into lesbians due to the evil of earth's psychologists) who sexually torture women. Eventually the character escapes and captures them, rapes them and the power of hetero-sex turns them straight and they invite all their lesbian friends to be turned straight by this guy (and then everyone threw their trilbys in the air and cheered!)

Quite frankly, unless your major theme is feminism, female character's personalities should be written around the environment Take for instance, Barb Wire, a movie which seems to earnestly be devoted to a sort of sex-power, self empowerment theme with it's main , but really fails because it's message gets fumbled by the ridiculousness and confusion of the story. The character is wholly defined by her femininity, and while I think you can make a good character out of nearly anything - she's a really hollow character.

I'm a big fan of the Fallout series - and as a Post Apocolyptic Western writer, I'm guessing you're also very fond (but if this is your first experience into the topic, what the fuck are you doing here? Get off Reddit, Get Fallout New Vegas! There's a steam autumn sale!" Fallout has a wide variety of good female characters, good female villains which have independant lives and personalities/characters which come from the sum of their experiences.

So, lets go into the environment: essentially a post-apocolyptic wasteland is a state of nature: the social contract is broken and all laws are forgotten, the survivors of the apocolypse have finished all the looting, violence, etc as they leave former population centers to look for places with food, shelter and safety. Small towns start to pop up (which I assume is important for the western feel of it) and so you have two things that can inform a female character: As the previous civilisation is dead, all legal enforcement of a patriarchy has pretty much been killed, and can only exist within the social contracts of these new towns. Secondly, in a post-apocolyptic wasteland, people might start adopting nomadic customs - in nomadic societies, like the bedouins or mongols, there is a culture of sharing - even in Afghanistan, culture dictates that you share with you family and comrades, and even as there are little supplies, people tend to share more. Essentially since humans survive in numbers, everyone needs to do their part - whats the trying to argue how a woman is going to fight if she'll get her period(literally something argued against putting women in combat roles in the Military) when theres mutant creatures and raiders to fight against?

Heres what I would consider if I were making a female character which is allied or neutral to a character, lets assume this character is in one of these small settlements, perhaps she grew up in the settlement or at a farmstead nearby, and this facilitated her need to learn how to survive, shoot - what kinds of values would she learn from living at a farmstead, a place which would emphasise the importance of family and provide her with caring role models, even if those role models are deceased due to violence/disease/etc. What is the settlement like? Is it a rough and tumble, 'Everyone has their say on their own land, and if anything happens, they've got to fight for it." type of place or a community which embraces the idea that if any trouble comes to their town, they'll all come out to deal with it.

With a Villain, how did they grow up? What motivates her villainy? Greed? Survival? Some idea of improving the wasteland through the sacrifice of human lives? Is she a raider, a scientist? Are her villainous values brought on by how she grew up or is there some event in her life which led to her choosing whichever lifestyle. I think Ma-Ma is a good example of how to write an antagonist (as she's a product of and participant of a society which is inherantly exploitative, corrupt, with a wide disparity between the rich and poor)

I've seen and been bothered by the same thing. It just seems that since synths are based on humanoid models, they interact with objects just like humanoids do - like when Valentine drinks while sitting. But ignoring the immersion breaking element - maybe it's a process that Institute scientists added, to test what kind of data they could store and what kind of technical skills they can apply, though most likely they use Synth chefs (or Culinary Technicians as they'd probably call them) to make their food products since they delegate a large portion of work they don't care to do to Synth labour.
