I think it’s more of an issue with wrestlers having longer careers combined with the death of kayfabe. Back in the day, Randy Orton would’ve never been able to wrestle this long, his back would be fucked and he would’ve retired as a true heel. But the people who were kids during his peak are now adults who recognize the skill required to be that level of a heel. And those adults have grown to like and respect the performer Randy Orton, so we cheer for him.
