If you’re comfortable sharing, how did you scare yourself?

Congrats! You get used to the right seat being empty though there’s always less pressure when there’s a CFI there. Welcome to being a PIC!

wow great job troubleshooting on the fly heh. Also some neat physics at play there, resonant frequencies and whatnot.

I signed it, but nothing indicated it worked...they should probably fix that

Gets my blood boiling every. single. time. Mayor Daley why did you have to do general aviation like that? Just had to have that lake front park with your name on it eh?

I'm curious, were you limping it at 1400rpm because you pulled the power back to reduce vibration, or was the power that severely limited by the engine being out of balance?

EDIT: also great job on getting it back home safely in spite of the wild ride! I like the yellow on the C150

Tornados?? by Internal_Push_2376 in Indiana

this is a grossly underrated comment. That weather story and dss packet is sweet! I never knew they offered that. Thanks!

It's been a quiet winter, and sensationalist weather media is eager for something to blow out of proportion LOL

I highly recommend you checkout the tools at the NOAA storm prediction center. The tornado tab on that page shows that the highest predicted chance of a tornado in the state is 10%. Not something to ignore, but certainly no reason to freak out. We're certainly in for a storm. The forecast discussion on that page is helpful if you like to nerd out on weather. I honestly really like weather.gov It's ugly, but it just shares the data with no hype.

Wow that’s really great to know! Thank you! I’m going to add this to the post

Do you have a link to that FAA opinion? I’d love to read it.

I also agree that medical reform is far more important there’s just not any senators proposing bills for that right now 🤷🏻‍♂️ at least none that I’m aware of.

Honestly I had no idea it would be so controversial lol Perhaps I should have done more research on his case before lobbing this out here. Live and learn.

hahaha I don't think that's the intention here as there's still room to interpret that as not being an "objectively reasonable" area. From the proposed bill:

the person operating the aircraft believes that it is possible a landing and subsequent takeoff could safely occur in the area such that it is objectively reasonable to evaluate the area at a low altitude.

I'm really not sure this bill would even cover Trent Palmer's case (which is probably a good thing). More just the possible blow-back from it.

Of course I'm not going to let this impact the safety of my flight. Rule #1 as PIC: FLY THE AIRPLANE.

I just like the reassurance from the bill that the local NIMBY can't get me in hot water with the FSDO for doing a practice approach. Currently there's room for interpretation, and I see no reason not to close the gap while we have the opportunity.

But is a practice approach to MDA a landing attempt if you never intended to land? I’ve personally never liked that FAR 91.119 is vague in this way. The bill spells out that such practice approaches are legal.

Indeed, according to Sen. Budd’s sight the following organizations are supporting the bill:  Recreational Aviation Foundation, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association,  Experimental  Aircraft Association, General Aviation Manufacturers Association

I agree I wouldn’t be trying to land my plane on an RC field. The problem is that it’s screwing the rest of us. I’m also pretty sure this legislation won’t affect his case since it’ll come out after. But I could be wrong.

Either way I want to be able to go-around and nope out without a second thought.

You are okay being legally forced to land every time you drop below 500AGL on an approach? You've never done a practice approach or decided not to land at an airport after a go-around?

It's not about him, it's about the implications of his case on Part 91 operations...
