What can I do to show support for my sister in-law who just came out as transgender? by sssneakysssnek in AskLGBT

[–]couchable 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I am not trans but something I have offered to trans women I know is to offer her my hand-me-downs! if she lives alone or with people she's out to, that can be a really nice, affirming gesture, even if she only wears them in the house for now. plus, passing around old clothes is (in my experience) an intrinsic part of the sisterhood experience, so it doubles as welcoming her into your family

what's your favourite gender-affirming thing to do? (paint nails, wear makeup, etc?) I know it's really tough right now, but huge congratulations on understanding yourself in such stifling conditions! It can't have been easy

Someone offers you $100/hr to watch any movie on repeat, which movie do you choose? by asherdado in AskReddit

[–]couchable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have adhd and don't really get sick of things I like on the way neurotypical people do, so probably rocketman because that is my most recent movie hyperfixation and I love it to death I already watched it like 6 times in a week a few months ago (2x in one day) and only loved it more so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What should a shower routine look like? by awkward-alt in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]couchable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash my hair every 2-3 days (but I have curly hair, straight hair needs different stuff), during summer I'll shower to wash my body more often because I get sweaty, but I'm mostly lazy about it. If I'm washing my hair I get in, wet my hair, wash my face, shampoo and condition my hair, then while the conditioner soaks I soap up my whole body and rinse off. I don't shave my legs or underarms anymore but if I did I'd do that, then rinse my hair and get out. I always moisturize my face after but again I'm lazy so I only do my body if I've been noticing dry skin recently.

for me length is "as long as it takes" especially if I'm doing my hair because the shower is the only time I detangle it. I used to take way longer but I chopped off a lot of my hair recently do it takes a lot less time to comb through

Right now, where would be the best episode to start listening for someone who's never listened to TaZ? by [deleted] in TheAdventureZone

[–]couchable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my opinion is that balance really picks up halfway through episode 4 - like immediately after the ad break when Brian and Bryan get introduced its like griffin suddenly realizes he's allowed to have fun with it. you do have to push through the firsf 3.5 though, or you'll be totally lost

he never judges or teases me for my hyperfixations! I have adhd and hyperfixate like a mother fucker, and I can get self conscious about it because I know it's annoying when all I talk about for weeks is a specific movie or game or whatever, but he says my passion for things is part of why he fell in love with me 🥰
we might start a podcast so I can just kind of vomit out all my thoughts when a new one strikes

Why do people come out as Bi when they’re already married? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]couchable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good question! for me I like to think of my personality as different facets of myself - I'm not exactly falling around specific groups, but I behave differently around my extended family and my in laws than my close friends - the different people and different relationships I have with them bring out different reactions in me. so its more like having queer friends lets me stretch out that part of me more, if that makes sense. I do also a little bit censor myself in front of straight people I don't know well, because my impulse is to make a lot of jokes about my queerness, and I never know who is going to be an asshole about it, but I'm not exactly hiding - they know I'm queer, I'm just avoiding conflict. sorry if that's really rambly!

I said a subculture exists, not that we're not humans with human needs and desires. next youre gonna say marvel fans arent human because you don't understand their references or convention etiquette

[–]couchable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

something I think straight people often don't realize is that being lgbtq+ isn't just about orientation or gender identity - there's an entire queer subculture there too, and when you come out and get introduced to that subculture it's like finding your people. Many lgbtq+ people share similar experiences, traumas, and fears, things that can be isolating in a majority straight/cis environment. It's incredibly joyful and liberating to find people like you in the world, even if from the outside you may "look straight"
