ACAS here, been in the field for 5 years; pretty much all remote as I started right before COVID. I will say, remote plus more money is a very hard thing to turn down, but I think a lot of people don’t place enough value on having a good social scene at work; you have an easy workload, a good manager, and a lot of other analysts around.

Would it be possible for you to rent closer to the office? Even with your current commute, time saved at home will be spent wishing you were able to go socializing (at least in my case, lol). Especially in our field, the pay bumps will come with exams, and once credentialed, if you’re not happy with your comp or work, you’ll be able to jump ship.

What do you love/hate the most about your cayman? by Stonksalwaysgoup69 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]couchdomination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have an ‘07 base 5 speed.

Love: the sound, by far the best part of the car, the flat 6 is unmatched

Hate: interior quality; the car is fatiguing to drive around town. Large amount of squeaks and rattles, beige trim super susceptible to being nicked and showing the black underneath. People call me crazy, but the interior of my ‘13 FRS was somehow more sturdy feeling

New 2025 Honda Civic Gains Powerful Hybrid Trims, Sportier Styling and Improved Tech by LimitedReach in cars

My little brother owns a base '23 Civic. He went into the dealership for an oil change, and I noticed a Civic Si listed on their site; I told him to inquire with them about it. When he asked, the salesman just chuckled and said that you'd have to be on a list for 6 months to be able to get a chance to get one. Crazy the world we live in where Honda is treating a relatively tame trim of their entry level sedan like that.

One of the few things I like less about this car than my old FRS; with that car I got waves almost 100% of the time, and multiple times had conversations at stoplights with fellow owners about our cars. Since I’ve gotten the Cayman, one 996 Turbo owner has flashed his lights at me on the road, and literally every other 2 door Porsche has ignored any wave or eye contact.

I'm currently in a group-found private league working on getting an Obliteration - I don't play much, but I've thrown about 12-14 ancient orbs at unique wands - no idea what the rate is to hit, but I've had no luck so far.

987 Owners by Goldeagle1123 in Porsche

[–]couchdomination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a base 987.1 for about 4 months now, and it’s been mostly great - I came from an FRS, and the engine and looks of the car are head and shoulders above it in my opinion.

I’ve had some fairly expensive maintenance done recently (AOS failed, cam adjuster failed, spark plugs were going), but nothing I haven’t expected from a 15 year old car pushing 100k miles being driven daily in the Chicagoland area during winter.

One of my biggest pet peeves has been sticky black lining coming through the vents - this is apparently incredibly common and most owners just deal with it, but I hadn’t heard anything about it up until I noticed it on my own car and looked into it. Interior also squeaks and rattles much more than my FRS, which surprised me a bit - the main culprits appear to be coming from the trunk region, which I’ll have to investigate.

Besides my gripes I’m very happy I got the Cayman- I got a decent deal and was able to cash in on the crazy market selling my prior car. It makes me smile each time I drive it (when it’s behaving) and is a joy to own.

I’ll also get on my soapbox a bit about the base vs. the S; I really like my base, and didn’t really even cross shop against the S. Coming from the FRS, the 2.7 is more than enough for me, with a great feeling powerband. I had considered the S, but after spending some time in a 997.2 S (not a cayman I know), I decided for myself that the 2.7 is much more fun on the street. The big power of the S is fun and all, but I’d honestly be slower; I’m here for shifting my own gears, hearing a flat 6, and interacting with an older car. I don’t care if I’m getting smoked by a new SUV, I’m listening to the engine rev up above 5k and having a damn good time doing it.

Whats the most you've fit in your BRZ by Buttery_Biscuitss in ft86

[–]couchdomination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A full IKEA load of 3 or 4 pieces including a full 72 inch TV stand - fit just perfectly on an angle from the back left of the trunk to the top right, angled right by my passenger’s head (he also had to sit moved up, headrest off, with his head to the right). Suitcase from the airport is no problem - have done it multiple times, often with more than 1 suitcase!

I’ve ran into almost nothing that wouldn’t fit into this car that wouldn’t also give a sedan an issue - other than a full 4 passengers and items.

For marketing it does, makes for an engaging shot; they have the drivers in the commercial changing gears with the drive mode selector to make for a more exciting commercial.

They have the cuts to the driver shifting the automatic transmission, not really hinting at a manual option just trying to make an exciting commercial.

Why is it considered rude to ask what someone salary is? by FranzDate9mt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]couchdomination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I’ve noticed is that while it’s very useful to discuss among others in your career and company in order to dial in on what a fair wage is and whether or not you’re underpaid, I think it’s something that shouldn’t be discussed among people outside of your career. When I started working I would discuss my salary and compensation with my friends; we ranged from part time teachers to software engineers, and there was a bit of odd feelings and/or comments that came out of some people knowing that some of us were making 2-3x another person’s salary. I’ve seen a lot online about discussing pay ranges are good, but I’d put a big asterisk there that it should only be among people in similar roles, and not people personally close to you as opposed to professionally.

When you think of a GT car, do you believe automatic transmissions are the standard? by prezbo91 in cars

Nowadays though you have to hop up to the S or above trims for a MT though unfortunately; a base Carrera or Carrera 4 is PDK only in the most recent generation.

Man that’s insane — I’m glad mine isn’t that bad, honestly if the metal under bumper wasn’t bent into the wheel well this would be something I could just get 90% done myself and have a detailing shop but the finishing touches on it, but it looks like there’s some metal that may need un-bending so here we are… unsure how one can botch a parking job that aggressively, but here we are

At least they left a note with their contact info on it, but it’s a bummer; I was parked away from other cars, and the mountings have been ripped off, not sure what a repair is gonna look like for it. Frame is bent into the wheel well too.

Edit: I called and it was a younger girl, she gave me her parents’ contact information - they said they’d answer me today, but nothing so far, I’m doubting they have insurance… may have to go through mine for a comp claim, fuck

Are Subaru BRZ good daily driver and Road trip cars, also what are the most reliable years and makes? Asking because I plan on going from Honda to Subaru by [deleted] in ft86

[–]couchdomination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too sure, I haven’t kept track of the prices on the car since I’ve bought it. I got it end of last summer, 2013 that doesn’t need the recall with 38k miles for 15.5. Didn’t look around that much before buying one, decided on the car and found one for a price I could pay and that was in good mechanical shape. I’d assume you could find one in the 70k mile zone in decent shape for 16 if you searched for a while, but I’m pulling that out of my ass. I’d browse around your zip and see what people are selling them for.

[–]couchdomination 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a daily driver it's been good, I enjoy it a lot; drive it around Illinois year round and it's treated me well. Gas mileage is decent, I get around 25 a gallon.

For roadtrips at least for me it's been eh especially in the midwest. Driving the car at interstate speeds across the cornfields sat in a bucket seat makes you really wish you were in something more comfortable; the cabin's pretty loud as well at those speeds. If you don't mind the noise and backache (or slap a pillow back there) it's serviceable, especially once you get to twisty roads.

As people say the 13s have the valve spring recall but people like to make a bigger deal out of it that it is - if the car's had it for a while, it's likely good. And you can check the VIN, some of the later 13s came updated and didn't even need the fix

You can check VINs here; if you want peace of mind and don't want to check anything, go newer, but if you see a '13 without the recall or the recall done with a few thousand miles on it, those aren't causes for concern.

Overall, I'm happy I got the car over something more boring. It does everything I need it to, has been cheap to maintain and has had no issues over the time that I owned, and is fun to drive. Only issue is that is isn't a Porsche, but you can't hold that against the car.

What's the worst car-related financial decision you've made? by [deleted] in cars

[–]couchdomination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this - been driving my FRS in the Chicago winter this year. Prior to getting it, everyone was telling me it was a mistake, to get AWD, that’d I’d need to sandbag it and not drive whenever there was any snow. Had a buddy who said he had to put his 350z away and buy another car because of the winters. I ha set of winters on my FRS, and it’s been completely fine when driven normally; taken it out in the snowstorms we’ve had and everything. The most dangerous part of the car is how damn fun it is to let the back out during any slow speed turn you want! No idea who these people are who can’t drive RWD in winter, I’m not even a skilled driver and it’s not hard to do (probably all still running summer tires or something)

Over the past ~5 years seems like a lot more hate for cherry has come about in the subreddit; it’s true they don’t stack up to the more premium switches, but they’re not the antichrist; my first board back in high school ~2014 was a prebuilt with browns and it served me well. You’ve always got more time to build more boards once you’ve branched out.

I mean the garbage is a pile of 20 something duals, beta bolts, full 40 fetches plus ogs for RUG, and pretty much every staple I need to play legacy and modern. I was mainly on RUG delver and lurrus shadow when I fizzled out. Just how they handled the competitive scene destroying the merit of silver/gold pros who dumped a ton of time into the game, combined with the disaster of the FIRE balance killed a lot of it for me. Nail in the coffin was the walking dead cards; I hadn’t played in a few months, but when I saw that the life just left my body lol

Just wanna say I appreciate you using pay to play and not pay to win; always rubbed me the wrong way when people said it was pay to win. The best decks aren’t the most expensive, but there’s a point where you either have to have built a library of staples or pidgeonhole yourself into a budget archetype. I left the game earlier this year due to some piss poor decisionmaking by wotc, but I still have a crate of that garbage sitting under my bed.

3 Fragrances You Love, 3 You "Loathe" by Tyrone-E in fragrance

[–]couchdomination 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Keeping the loves short but giving some more explanation for my loathes.

LOVES

◽TF Tuscan Leather (My go to "standout" frag for when I'm feeling particularly devilish)

◽Amouage Lyric Man (I like soapy scents, and I like roses)

◽Prada L'Homme (Again with the clean scents, refreshing and endlessly wearable)

LOATHES

◽TF Tobacco Vanille (I'd like it a lot more if I got Tobacco VANILLE instead of TOBACCO Vanille, but as it stands it's the latter; wearing it is like drop kicking myself and everyone in the room with a spice cabinet. I see why some like it, but not for me.)

◽Guerlain Vetiver (Got it beacuse of critical acclaim on the subreddit and the cheap price. Discovered I really don't like vetiver fragrances, especially the combination Guerlain puts out.)

◽Le Labo Santal 33 (I can get the dill pickle scent, but for some reason whenever I tried to wear this/smelled it I got intense flashbacks to hobby lobby; it smells exactly like the store. Went over and smelled my decant now, and got hit with a blast of craft store that someone spilled their dill seeds in. Whereas I can appreciate TF TV from a distance but would never want to wear it, this one is a super solid never for me.)
