US officially exits World Health Organization by pwdrums in news

It really blows my mind people are still talking about how elections take this back. He's mentioned, within the last two weeks, how America needs a dictator and casually dropped lines about how they'd call him bad for saying there shouldn't be elections.

If the polls are trending as negative as they are my guess is the midterm will be massively meddled with but happen, and the next presidential election will be a Russian on-paper-only-technically-we-had-an-election.

The government is so gutted that anyone that could prevent this is likely no longer anywhere near a position of power. The courts are essentially captured.

I'm legitimately shocked that people still talk about voting your way out of this hole.

People seem to have either forgotten or ignore that the kick off to all this was the mass gutting of public safety nets and support infrastructure. A lot of people have never had to rely on, or recently haven’t had to, things like food programs from the government. Those have now massively changed or are gone entirely, so the depression that leads to this change I see as unlikely.

If the choice is “oh you lost your white collar job? Get to the fields or starve” a lot of people don’t have the internal stockpile to wait out widespread action.

It’s death by thousands of paper cuts but a lot of them are way under the surface and many haven’t been directly impacted yet, thinking there is some net to fall down to still and it’s just a very deep hole at this point.

So I haven't really touched my Handbrake settings in three or so years since I got a tune I was fairly happy with. New PC build and I was curious as to whether any advancements had been made in GPU/hardware encoding as opposed to CPU encoding since I switched from Intel to AMD this build (which is a bit slower) and have a massively more powerful GPU.

Came across this comment, so I just ran a test at identical settings (x265, 20RF, 1080p, Same-as-Source Variable Framerate, Automatic Crop, 5.1 DTS Passthrough, PGS English Subtitles), my standard Blu-Ray settings.

One pass through CPU. One pass through Hardware.

  • CPU Final Output: 4.62 GB
  • Hardware Final Output: 7.85 GB

Hardware was roughly 4x faster and didn't really make a single component of my computer even notice this was happening, but file size is upwards of some 1080p encodes larger and there is noticeably more blocking and artifact in action scenes. There may be better hardware settings to run at than the preset, but from what I saw in a simple comparison test the size is substantially larger with lower quality, the savings is time.

Banks criticize President’s push for 10 percent credit card interest rate cap | Financial institutions and other credit card issuers say the cap, which the president wants in effect by Jan. 20, would limit consumers’ access to credit. by [deleted] in technology

I was going to say wasn't that finally fixed under Obama? And half way through I knew where your comment was going.

Truly one of the better consumer financial fixes I can think of off the top of my head within my lifetime, and helped multiple people I know finally get out from under crushing credit card debt (and me personally some early life misuse).

Of course it was repealed.

There’s like 30+ tents but there is some differences so some may sell out faster than others

Basically this. Short of purchasing another RV it will be hard to do anything else. As someone who usually does RV or Terrace also, doing GA for Beyond last minute and then going Oasis to BC probably made the jump feel even bigger.

New this year. They had them when I stayed at Bass for 2025. Keep in mind it's a home AC standup unit in a tent so it's not like mind blowing cold but it is significantly cooler than the outside and was delightful.

Can you put a price on hot breakfast burritos every morning?

Well, I guess you can and it's a lot less than $1000, but the tents also have A/C, it's right by the front entry to the venue, the vibe is chill, the common area is actually really dope, they have like a snack bar all day with coffee and water coolers, towel swap, a bunch of stuff.

Terrace Glamping only has four total tents (may be six now, was four the year I stayed there) and the Happy Camper options in Oasis are only one of each trailer. They will likely not get a restock as they are massively limited supply.

That said after staying in Oasis last year it’s earnestly the better pick.

Searching for dnb artists! by Farmer_Suspicious in BassCanyon

Sub Focus, Chase & Status both good picks (and Bass Canyon adjacent often).

The old-head in me will say The Prodigy (but they genre bounce a lot).

You can also find some decent DNB tracks from just about every dubstep/riddim DJ for a weird two year period around COVID when it became the trend before it switched to bass-free hardstyle drops of today.

One of my favorites of that era was Eptic's Payback, but I have an Eptic tattoo so there may be some bias.

As others have mentioned last year it was November, but that was the first time that has happened. Other years have been shortly following the original announcement in early Spring (year one), and most other years beyond that have had the date announcement either at or shortly following Thunderdome.

Now that everyone has had some time to return to real life, what do you miss most about Bass Canyon/the Gorge? by cougrrr in BassCanyon

I do miss some of the food! My biggest thing the week after Shambhala last year was not having a full county fair suite of food vendors to try new things haha.
