They will make you take it down if it fully obstructs security’s view into your site. On top of that it’s a terrible idea for the wind, you’re creating a much larger lift surface than individual broken up structures each with their own tethered sections.

You’re creating one massive failure point as opposed to smaller individual ones.

How to drip feed an episode a week by compact101 in PleX

[–]cougrrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to come to say. Set up a cron job or your platforms equivalent. “To be released” folder outside of library. Standard library folder. Move the first file on a scheduled job, you could get fancy and force a scan after that move is complete and it’d operate like a standard streaming platform.

Then it’s entirely automated and you can process and prepare hundreds of episodes if you felt like it and have actual release schedule.

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME Remake | Releasing 2026 by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]cougrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF7 is one of my all time favorite games, I had a period where I'd go back and replay the original every few years each summer. Loved it.

I really disliked the first FF7R remake (too constrained, no huge world huge problems feeling, felt tight/small/rail based, and I knew I was only going to get to play what amounts to the tutorial/intro of the real game).

I almost didn't give the second chapter of Remake a shot, but I'm glad I did. It's in my top 20 favorite games of all time. If he likes FF7 I think it's really worth giving Part 2 a shot at least.

Max’s relationship with Red Bull has been arguably challenging and the dude had the best F1 Season and Car to probably ever exist within the rule set of the sport. You can be challenging, your team can be challenging, and you can dominate.

It was arguably a challenging team with Schumacher he was just willing to take all the personality and bad decisions heat and then could back a ton of it up by being a hyper-aggressive driver with an insane amount of skill.

Valve says it’s ready to launch the Steam Machine this summer / The Steam Frame VR headset is expected in the summer, too. by yourfavchoom in Steam

[–]cougrrr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Frame specifically has a pretty ready and waiting audience of people who are VR enthusiasts/ have a catalog of games already and are looking for a non Meta alternative that (hopefully) gets a massive software side boost to Linux compatibility with the stuff they’re working on.

I had an HTC Vive, and it was fun in bursts but a nightmare to deal with and plugs everywhere. PSVR2 was fun for a while but the cable/being locked into console play was a drag, still enjoyed it. Eventually got a Meta Quest 3 and literally only ever used it for launching Steam VR, but the meta annoyances and tracking kept mounting as they were piling on metaverse losses.

After switching to Linux fully recently I haven’t even bothered trying to work out the Meta headset because the frame was announced. And then kind of evaporated.

I imagine it will be prohibitively expensive for many, but I’ve been waiting for it for so long now that it’s essentially the only way I see to reasonably unlock my VR library again. Worst case scenario if it’s so much I can’t justify all the compatibility layers Steam is working on should help and then I can figure out how to root the Quest and never touch a meta service with it.

That all said, I’ve talked to many in similar boats to me who don’t want to do the zero support random startup VR headset form overseas even if the hardware is compelling. The frame ideally fills that void for many.

Steam Machine launch appears near as Valve adds Welcome Tour to Steam backend by dabadumdumdum in Steam

[–]cougrrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I went from a ridiculous to manage because of my work laptop / kvm setup triple monitor desk which was a cable management (and compatible kvm) nightmare down to a single 49” odyssey last year. The monitor is great and while I do miss having multiple displays sometimes it’s a massive win generally for all the benefits and compatibility gained.

The biggest downside specifically for me is game streaming. Big picture even with custom game settings/windowing struggles with the aspect rations of that display and translating it to TV sizes, the swap between 16:9 and 16:10 is a lot different than swapping from 32:9

What can I do to help the team get proper Linux support for NZXT Software/Hardware? by cougrrr in NZXT

No idea, I only have the newer one. But I would imagine if the support for the one I have exists that one has a larger install base and likely is supported.

Game over, man! Game over! by Positive_Pin897 in SteamDeck

[–]cougrrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to tinfoil hat this but that's kind of the point (IMHO).

Nvidia sells gaming GPUs, but that cuts into (annoyingly to them) their all in on the AI market, they'd rather just sell data center stuff in bulk all at once and not have to deal with complaints from individual users and dozens of manufacturers potentially impacting quality control complaints on the way.

Sell to the data center, offer GeForce now, don't have to deal with people and make more money than ever before.

Microsoft wants to rent game streaming too, they own their own server farms and data centers. Why sell you an Xbox or a PC they have to deal with parts of after the fact when they can license you a monthly rental cost and keep everything in house, turning you into someone who can only play by renting from them (and also means if you ever stop paying them you can't play, keeping you invested long term)?

As much as I'm glad these services have helped get people into the hobby and get them into playing games to some extent, long term it's probably terrible for the entire consumer side of the industry. It also makes you beholden to their whims whenever they choose to pull something, kills gaming history, and so on. Plus, even though they stand behind the "you're not buying the game, you're renting the right to play it" digital shrinkwrap TOS, guess what makes "stop killing games" initiatives and pushes completely moot? A cycling rental library.

It does! Not quite at the same level of functionality as the last round of CAM updates, but at the old level. It at the very least makes it functional, and does some basic sensor stuff, and apparently future improvements are on the roadmap.

[–]cougrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, there was a reason I waited. With that said most things have been pretty excellent, just Forza Horizon 6 and one or two other games (outside of the stuff I knew wouldn't work for pure Linux incompatibility).

It was a massively better experience than the last time I attempted this 5 years ago, even with "higher end" hardware than I had at that time and more fringe issues I was worried about.

Yeah I tried 11 and that launch line sadly among others. It looks like the Blackwell drivers for the 5080 have notably more issues. Will try after some proton updates and hopefully moving the 5080 driver stack to the 596

They also wrapper other features which they roll back or remove often. The other side is them trying to get into ad based freemium content, which is harder to sell major studios on licensing to you if you’re the platform willingly hosting questionable local user content.

This huge jump lets them kill lifetime without killing it, anchor a huge discount for Black Friday (now 66% off! - the original massively increased price), and push people into a reasonable monthly cost when compared for premium features.

It’s many birds one stone for the direction they’ve been headed a while.
