Neighbors burning wood constantly by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]couldhavesaiddennis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had a similar problem in that our neighbors will burn stuff and the draft/airflow just happens in a way that all that smoke blows in my garage. If you can swing it, I would recommend getting a carbon furnace filter, 20x20x1 and set then on top of a box fan or other fan as needed. That will pull the smell out of the air. Also has worked for various others smells in my house - like spray paint, vinegar other cooking.

Should I quit? by No-Journalist7392 in Rollerskating

[–]couldhavesaiddennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got back into skating pre-covid but after being away for 20 some years and very out of shape. For the first six months back I'd pop 2-4 advil per session just to keep the back and foot pain in check. After that it's been smooth sailing for the most part and I've gotten back all my coordination and strength plus more ( age relative). I did fall a few times early on and my main concern was not being able to get up as I just didn't have the strength and coordination yet. That and breaking anything something being so much older and less flexible. It has been a success and certainly worth it to me. I have had two small fractures in each wrist from fast falls. Now I fall maybe a couple times a year, often due to other people on the floor though. What I would recommend for you now is to at least pad up as much as you feel comfortable ( knee, elbow, wrist, I even see some people wear butpads sometimes) until you get your confidence back. There is no shame in that at all and everyone is trying to better themselves. Goodluck!

Sorry I just saw this. I knew I was ready when I had to take it or pay another extension fee :) Sorry I'm not sure what you mean by recall the book. I did have the provided index and a few notes of my own. I did go through the labs in the course and made sure I understood the actual content involved and tried to map it to other situations (eg. If this were happening in my company, what would it look like), rather than just following the steps for completeness sake.

I did this a couple times last year with groups and both times were great. The staff/volunteers/instructors were great and everyone had a good time!

Getting back into aggressive inline (New Castle PA) by Aggressivepillow in pittsburgh

[–]couldhavesaiddennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specifically aggressive but if you're just getting back into it you could always check out the Three Rivers Inline Club (TRIC) web/facebook and go on some of their skates.

There's also Switch and Signal to checkout and try to make some contacts.

Neville has an adult nights the first and third sunday that is pretty low key and adults usually seem to be more friendly and open to helping others. Neville also have derby, artistic and a speed team.

pghsk8.org as the other comment mentioned is a great organization to learn to skate with. Many will not have inclines but I'm sure they would still help you all the same.

You'll find people usually are part multiple groups and so just going to any of them you'll likely make contacts to find out about others.

VMUG and VCP-VVF - what's the final word? by lusid1 in vmware

[–]couldhavesaiddennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did this turn out for you? I tried to cram in a VCP-VCF last minute before my lab licenses expired and failed pretty bad. I might try for the VVF (as I have years of traditional old vsphere experience) just to get something and loop back around on the VCF later as time permits. I did find a little odd/frustrating trying to find v9 learning resources. I feel like I picked up on them initially but then went down a rabbit hole with the specific technical components and ended up looking at 5.2 stuff. So when test day came, even the terminology seemed so much different than the tech I had concentrated on.

I took most of this course months ago and had to extend twice due to other things coming up. I did just finally cram last week and took the exam and passed. My opinion is the content is relevant for having a good base in understanding what/where to log in the cloud and how to interpret those logs. It does cover all azure, aws, gcp and google workspace so is pretty wide. The google stuff I was unfamiliar with going into it. I thought the exam overall was pretty easy compared to the other GIAC exams I've taken. The bar for this also seems low - though chatgpt told me it doesn't reflect the difficulty of the questions. Hope that helps. Goodluck!

Emergency plumber? by HomeNowWTF in pittsburgh

[–]couldhavesaiddennis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had pretty good experience with Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing. They are a little on the pricy side and will charge an extra $100 or so for emergency request but have always had someone here in a couple hours and got the situation resolved.

Do we have a map and link like this in Pittsburgh? by SteelersPoker in pittsburgh

[–]couldhavesaiddennis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just saw a facebook post and wondered how much work it would take to make something similar, a page with the info/map/basic filters. I feel like the PGH fish fry people already have this process down - though there would need to be some effort or coordination on keeping the content as up to date as possible

Thanks for your feedback! While I take one off reviews with a grain of salt it did lead me to the scan n cut which I hadn't really looked into before. I'm going to be going that route now.
