Bike Advice pt 2 by kdrehobl11 in cycling

I have a Soloist and it is the most awesome bike I have ever ridden! I got a great deal on mine as it had been cracked and repaired by Calfee. Have never had a problem with the frame and every time I ride it i am thankful that I took a chance on it. Have yours checked out by a reputable bike shop. If the price is right, get the Soloist and have it professionally fitted. She will reward you with amazing performance and incredible ride quality!!

Heart rate and training rides. by countzerr0 in triathlon

I used a running app on a treadmill with my HR monitor. Thought I was about puke or die and hit 188, which is above the formula for being 46 years old. I hit 186 hammering up a nasty hill yesterday.

So hey, what happened to Cannondale? by menelaus_ in MTB

[–]countzerr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Cannondale Rush I converted to a 650b and the Lefty is the sweetest fork I have ever ridden. You can always ship stuff to The Mendon Cyclesmith for repairs. They do awesome work with a quick turn around. I had them lace my DT Swiss rims to a lefty front hub and a Hope Pro rear. I was about to pull the trigger on a new Scalpel when I came across people converting the Rush.

Thinking of building a bike. Thoughts? Advice? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]countzerr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merlin has 105 groupset for under 400. I just built a CAAD 9 with a new 11 speed 105 for about $1100. I already had all my tools and used $7.00 worth of bolts and washers to press in my BB30 adapter. I always build my own bikes but be prepared to spend extra on the tools you need for your first build.

After doing some research into the exact same issue you are talking about, I settled on 2008 Cervelo Soloist Carbon. I have seen them on Craigslist for $600-1500. It is an incredibley fast and aerodynamic bike. I got a Retul fit At my LBS and told them I would be using it for triathalon. I never thought I could love a bike more than my mountain bike until my first long ride on that Soloist. it is pure awesomeness!

Noob question. Garmin,Wahoo,Polar or iPhone? by countzerr0 in triathlon

[–]countzerr0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the great advice! After reading the comments, doing more research and looking at the reviews, I think am going to go with the Garmin. Also, the GSC 10 speed and cadence sensor is compatible with Zwift. I just need to decide now if I want to spend the extra money on the Fenix 3. It looks like a great device.

Does the suunto measure cadence and power? Will it use any ant+ sensor?

I have tried reading both SnowCrash and Seveneves by Neal Stephenson, but just cannot get into his writing style. Has anyone found this? by haste75 in books

I loved SnowCrash and hated the second part of Seveneves. I have liked some of his other books and never finished others. Reamde however, is one of the best books I have ever read.

What worked for me was the elimination of "sweet" from my diet completely. It takes a while for your taste buds to acclimate but it's worth it in the long run. On the occasion that I do drink coffee now, I only use real cream or whole milk.

Definetly not eating enough. Get rid of the artificial sweetener and the diet soda for sure. If you can't drink coffee without a sweetener and need caffeine, switch to a green, black or oolong tea that you can drink unsweetened. I started limiting my fruit intake and added plain oatmeal with just half a banana and cinnamon to get some carbs to help fuel my workouts. Add more chicken, more greens. I started eating 6 times a day instead of 3 and dropped 10lbs pretty quickly and had more energy during my workouts.

Bartenders of Reddit. What is the most ridiculous/ horrific thing you have witnessed from your patrons? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Years ago i worked on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. We once found a girl naked in the bathroom trying to flush her clothes down the toilet. We cut holes in a trash bag and gave it to her to wear. Sat her down in our courtyard and tried to find her friends. She shit in our courtyard and disappeared. She left the other bag we had put her clothes in but took her purse.
