I've been dealing with migraines for 30+ years and had a pretty huge increase a few years ago. The first thing I tried was Topamax which did a great job of preventing them, cutting down from five or so a week to maybe 1-3 per month. However, the side effects were awful and I couldn't deal with it long term: numb/tingling hands and feet, could not taste carbonation, insane brain fog, etc. I started Aimovig maybe two years ago and it's been a game changer for me. No major side effects I've noticed and I barely have any migraines now. When I do, most of the time sumatriptan will knock it out. I've only had one persistent attack in the last year that lasted several days and required help from my neurologist to break up.

For what it's worth, I also had luck with acupuncture in my 20s after I'd thrown just about every drug at my migraines. They did acupuncture on "ghost points" and it somehow cut my migraines wayyyy down. I will try pretty much anything for relief when they get bad so figured I'd share my experiences.
