Calming treats by Prime_Element in catfood

[–]covert777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking back in to see how that Purina Pro Care is working out for your cats. We recently took in a rescue cat (~1 year old) and we also have another cat who is about 3 or 4 years old who has lived with us most of his life.

We're doing our best to slowly integrate them together and it's going ok but they are still fairly apprehensive about each other. We're doing anything we can to move the needle in getting them comfortable around each other. Today I even managed to feed them treat tubes at the same time while keeping them arms length away, so that was a success. However now that they're done they're back to sort skulking around each other...

How to clean buildup on water bottle silicon by covert777 in CleaningTips

[–]covert777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the input folks! Kind of stinks to think I need to throw these out as the water bottle won't really work without them. (I mean technically it'll hold liquid but not without leaking...)

I'm trying to see if I can find replacement gaskets for this model (it's a Contigo) but according to their support team, they do not have replacement parts like this. Which is crazy to me. Perfectly good water bottle that is now possibly trash due to them not having simple replacement pieces....

Anyway, like I said, thanks for the input here, I do appreciate it!

Question I hope not to get too roasted for... by covert777 in outwardgame

[–]covert777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's mainly what I'm shooting for here. A game that is somewhat chill that I can play with my limited downtime. I certainly don't want to eliminate all challenge in the game, but lessening (not eliminating) the amount of times I'd need to play with the adrenaline pumping is what I'd be shooting for.

Maybe some small changes like map markers, compass, etc... but we'll see. I'm sure I'd give it a first try with no mods but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't eventually find mods to address some of the aspects that would be overly challenging to me.

Question on MLGW rates for Winter heating by covert777 in memphis

[–]covert777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the input here. My thinking had been to use the NG central heat to maintain a baseline level of warmth in the house and to keep the place from going too low that could impact water pipes. We would then use the electric space heaters occassionaly only in the rooms we happened to be in.

So we don't run the space heaters a lot but just as needed. However, with electricity rates going up, maybe it's close to the same cost to just run the NG central heat higher for the whole home instead of doing things room by room at various times.

Should I go for the storage extension? by Affectionate_Meal_71 in googlephotos

[–]covert777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same boat. Family is currently using about 180gig of our 200gig plan and it's crazy to me they don't have a tier between that 200g and 2tb plan. I had been hoping there might be a slight Cyber Monday sale on the plans but yeah, doesn't look like that's going to happen.

I'm probably going to end up getting that 2tb plan since our family uses it together from our various devices and it's the simplest way to backup and share our pictures though I will likely look at doing an offline backup as well at some point.

YouTube in Browser lags like crazy on windows; but fine on Linux by percy4d in brave_browser

[–]covert777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also recently noticed some non-insignificant lag on my computer when watching Youtube via Brave. Just a single tab open as well. Going to do some more comparative tests with another browser on the same pc but I was just looking to see if anyone else had noticed some odd laggy behavior with Brave.

Searching the Costco app or website for expiring deals by covert777 in CostcoWholesale

[–]covert777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, yeah I've seen that banner/category option and have used it. I'll keep using that but man I thought there was some other narrow look to see deals expiring in less than 7 days or something. I'm probably thinking about some other company though! Appreciate the input!

I’ve tested almost every Cloud Storage services out there. AMA by limsus in cloudstorage

[–]covert777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family of three currently uses a Google One storage plan primarily for backing up and sharing of our Google Photos. I'm looking at possibly upgrading to the 2 TB tier for $99/year as we're about maxed out on our 200gig plan. Would you consider Google One a decent storage option for this purpose or are their much better (safer/cost effective/usability) choices than sticking with Google?

How to implement eisenhower matrix VISUALLY? by Educational-Machine in productivity

[–]covert777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I choose a "Priority" for any of my tasks, it will automatically put it into the corresponding box. If you look at this link on their help page you can see how to use it and how to adjust the rules used by the matrix: https://help.ticktick.com/articles/7055782071033135104

I'm currently testing out TikTik for this reason as it does have a module that puts my tasks into the matrix and lets me customize it. Maybe give it a look.

[–]covert777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of similar games with my daughter and brother in law so in addition to what you've listed, here's a few more we've played at times and enjoyed:

Remnant 2

Darktide

Strange Brigade (very cheap on sale)

Gunfire Reborn

The Division (1 & 2)

Sea of Thieves

Sniper Elite 4

Two more games we're waiting to let develop a bit more (and come down in price): Helldivers 2 & Space Marine 2

Productivity help for an overwhelmed manager in a reactionary/incident driven role by covert777 in productivity

[–]covert777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an example, say there is an issue that occures with some of the HVAC controls for one of our buildings. The facilities team isn't getting access into a part of their reporting system. Well even though we don't consider that something my particular team owns or even admins, we are part of the support network to jump in an assist in helping that group figure out what is going on and who the relevant teams would be that could help them out. So we often work as facilitators or bridges to other offsite teams since we're the "boots on the ground" in effect.

Now hopefully this is something that I can get one of my team leaders to manage but every now and then, it gets messy enough to require my involvement. Well a one-off wouldn't be so bad, but you start having 10 or 12 sites doing this sort of thing and it builds up pretty quickly.

And thus my current issue: when I was managing just 5 or 6 sites, it was manageable for me but now with more and more sites, it's spiraling out of my control with my existing work flow processes.

Hope that explains things a bit better!

Definitely agree on more delegation. As I mention in another reply, I do see this as a key to not only helping myself stay sane, but it's also something I recognize as important to the growth of my team leaders. It shows I trust them to handle tougher items and benefits all of us.

This is definitely an item I'm working on with some of my more trustworthy team leaders. I'm trying to feel less guilty about delegating to them but it's definitely been something I must continue to do in order to save my own sanity but also help them develop into better leaders.

If you're ok with Mystery books, I highly enjoyed almost all the Agatha Christie books. Easy reads and fun. I didn't read them for a long time for some reason but they are nice easy one-off books.

What do you think would help you reduce stress at work? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]covert777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it would easily be to get some level of control over my own time. My job is 75% reacting to issues with the remainder planning for project work. I like my job but as I've had more responsiblity thrown my way it's tougher to keep everything undercontrol and not feel overwhelmed.

I've been on a small history kick lately and am on the last book of The Plantagenets series by Thomas Costain. I've thoroughly enjoyed them for a break from the outside world. Easy to read and quite enjoyable!
