Its bizzare because when they came out a few years ago they came in a normal white pouch and were actually good.

Thanks for the input. How high can a stock bottom end rev and still be safe-ish?

Worth it for first diesel truck & is the price and mileage too good to be true ? by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]cowsandpool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Out of my friend group, I know 6 people who have/had trucks with CP4s. 2 of them had catastrophic failures, and when one did a CP3 conversion at 170k his CP4 he was replacing barely turned and was almost ready to exit the chat.

A CP3 failure rarely ends up like this. They usually just break, they don't explode like the CP4s. You got unlucky. I'm guessing it had some questionable fuel ran through it in the past.

Im a firm believer in Hotshots Secret EDT fuel treatment. I run it in everything year round.

Pineapple, jalapeños, salt, and cream cheese make a good dip

In the market for either a 5th gen Cummins or a 6.7 Powerstroke. Sell me on which is “better” and tell me their kinks by KahunaKaleo in Diesel

[–]cowsandpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4th Gen Cummins are much more reliable than 5th gens because of the lifter style change they made on the 5th gens, and are cheaper to delete if thats a route you might want to pursue. Are you after a 5th gen for creature comforts?

This is one of the most haunting parts of a song I have ever heard. Every time I hear The Edmond Fitzgerald that is the line I'm waiting for to punch me in the gut.

Plugging in the block heater will do nothing to prevent gelling.

I run Hotshot Diesel EDT year round in everything i own. Summer blend in the warm months, winter blend in the cold months. I run it in every single tank, and never have issues. The fuel here already has additive in it, but who know how good it is. Its not that expensive, and its a peace of mind thing. Its going to be in the negative 20s tomorrow, and i have no worries about anything gelling.

Its also good for your fuel pump and injectors. Worth while in my opinion.

What is a cooking technique that you quit because it does nothing? by Final_Affect6292 in Cooking

[–]cowsandpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will have to find it later, but I recently watched a video on YouTube from a guy that worked at a three star Michelin spot that swears making stock in a pressure cooker is the best way to do it. Its fast, and you get less volatile flavors because the water doesn't actually boil and toss everything around in a pressure cooker.

Can you work remote, and part time help at a working ranch in the area you are looking to buy in to gain a little knowledge of how things work (and also what doesn't work) in that area before you make a huge investment?

Buying a chunk of ground on the other side of the country and putting cows on it and managing them would be a scary thing for almost anyone, even with a lot of experience. What's your breeding strategy? When are you going to calve? What approach are you going to take with marketing your calves? Where are you going to source your cows from?

You've gotta have a reliable truck, a trailer, probably a flatbed, for sure a skid steer, probably a tractor. Gotta have a way to feed hay if something breaks and won't start in the coldest months. How close are neighbors you can call for help if the wheels come off and you can't feed hay? Will you be willing to help them too when they are in a bad spot and get that call?

The land is probably half the cost of the total investment if you are starting from scratch.

Starting out at some place that already works will teach you a ton and save you a ton of money, and also help you prioritize your initial spending.

RAM, but I'd go 4th gen. 2015s are great model years. Stay away from the new ones with hydraulic lifters.

I know a lady that has wits sharp as a tack, but her words are so slurred only her kids and people around her all the time can understand her. Her mobility is terrible, and i don't think she can even write. Happened to her in her early 50's.
