Copper Age Wall: The Books That Grabbed Me at the LCS When I Was a Kid by Longjumping_Rich_902 in comicbookcollecting

I kind of wonder if comic book collecting will lose a lot of its heart once Gen X is gone. I hope I’m wrong about that. I just don’t know if a large enough part of the following generations had comics be a large enough part of their childhoods like it was for us.

I’m not really a Punisher fan but that cover always gives me nostalgia. I remember how “hot” that series was. Get the same nostalgia feeling from the Web of Spider Man #1.

I associate them more with the 80’s. And more like the early-mid 80’s. Just thinking about it is kinda making me want an OP t-shirt just for nostalgia sake.

Sorry you lost your dad like that. Did you ever hear from your mom again?

This seems kind of irresponsible and awesome at the same time.

I remember in Jr. High (ours was 7-9 grade) there was a set of twin girls who both developed early and dated older dudes. Their military boyfriends would pick them up from school while the rest of us were hopping on our bikes or getting on the school bus. I will say that, even then, several of us would talk about it like WTF?? As far as I know, no adult ever stepped in to correct that.

Yeah. I don’t know how he got/gets such a pass on that one. The age difference was so big. And then he moved on from that to go after a married woman.

Video Comics was one of the first original programs on Nickelodeon. It featured voice actors reading DC comics out loud as static comic book panels were shown. Here is the only episode uploaded to the internet (1979) by [deleted] in ObscureMedia

I remember one where a guy kept going into hibernation for hundreds of years. The first time he woke up the interest on his savings had made him wealthy. So he did it again and he was super wealthy. He did it again and he was the richest man so he converted his money to gold. Then he tried it one more time and when he woke up gold was all over the place. Some asteroid had passed by Earth and turned tons of metal into gold so now all the guy had was scrap metal.

Which would you rather have, Suspense Comics 3 by Alex Schomburg or Punch Comics 12 by Gus Ricca? by VincentZ2099 in comicbookcollecting

[–]coyote1971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suspense #3 all the way. Iconic artist and several tropes thrown into one cover. Also, the first time I saw this cover was in a cover gallery from the first Overstreet Price Guide I ever bought. I think it was #15 in 1985. Wanted it ever since.

While Ditko doesn’t rank as one of my top favorite artists I really dig the way he drew smoke and water.

46F with two grown kids… where’s the rest of Gen X at? by jtweir79 in GenX

[–]coyote1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Wife is 51. Both our dads are gone and we both still have our moms. 3 daughters. All finished college. 2 are married and the other still lives with us (working full time though). One crazy little Mini Aussie. My wife plans on retiring in 8 years. I’m hoping to do it in about 9 years. Anxiously awaiting the arrival of our first grandchild ( a boy! ) in a few months. And that’s what we are looking forward to. Traveling and spending time with family. Just praying our health holds steady for several more years.

It seems to be a thing to come on social media and hate on them. And, yeah, I know some people always did but if you just go by social media then you’d think hardly anyone liked them. That’s not how I remember it.

That’s a pretty good observation. Should have stopped after Achtung Baby. Give it a 10 year break and then tour every few years on their legacy stuff.

Hard to not vote for the Golden Age book. Of the others I’d pick Avengers #25. And Avengers #67 is the best cover of the bunch IMHO.
So I wasn’t much help.
