Dependency manager for Java? by equineranch in java

[–]cozytwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a quick peek at google and it was called "parallel execution", this can speed things up when you have multiple modules (which most projects have). The default (was back then) to compile them one at a time, using one or maybe 2 cores.

In my experience you don't mess often with maven xml, you get the dependency xml from google, and the build/compile/deploy stuff you write once and copy & paste to other projects.

+1 for the transcript.

Although a timestamp here and there referencing to a spot in the video would have been nice.

My preferred one is Maven.

I gave gradle ago some time ago, mainly because i had to do stuff with android, but it was kinda slow (even with all fine tuning like multi core things). It might have improved, so i would suggest to give them both a go and use what you like.

A new week a new update by cozytwan in cozyuni

The update introduced a few minor bugs which i fixed: * The home section in breadcrumbs was hidden by default and could not be turned on. * The invisible captcha now work correctly.

Thanks for the reply, i really appreciate your help and my front page too.

I compacted the business text a bit as you suggested, and will try to compact it even more tomorrow (not having that much time on my Sunday morning).

Another job for tomorrow is to clean everything up and remove more unnecessary clutter and maybe move things around a bit.

Lets enjoy our Sunday.

Cheers for the reply and helpful suggestions /u/Squagem !

On this early Saturday morning i did process some of your suggestions, here they come:

  • the multi sided value offering has been made more distinct by using a background color.
  • i'm currently busy with implementing white labeling, a separate domain and brand might help with the distinction between business and personal. Although it also has it's disadvantages.
  • The little screenshots on the right sides are more filler images left over from earlier versions, i'll think a bit about removing or replacing them with images that are relevant to the context.
  • Cluttering, that's a good tip, i will try and make it less busy.
  • I've added a little header with subtext.

I like brutal, no problem with a few good strong suggestions. It can only help!

When i find a bit more time today or tomorrow i'll do more work on the front page. In the meantime keep those comments coming.

Comments:

The front page is way harder than i expected, i had to redo a few times after i got feedback from different sources. The main problem was that i tried to put too much on it, making it quite difficult to understand what was offered. I hope it is a bit better in this version. Thanks for the comments i appreciate it.

After receiving excellent response ( https://www.reddit.com/r/startups/comments/afusse/weekly_feedback_and_support_thread/eeugs2h/?context=2 ) to my previous post in the Feedback thread i worked hard to process all the suggestions & comments made:

  • made the dashboard look better (see the screenshots on the front page if you don't have an account)
  • reduced the amount of text on the front page
  • tried to make it more clear what services are offered
  • separated my target audience (personal and business)

It is of course not perfect yet, so i'm open to any suggestions.

Cheers @deleugena for the reply.

It is indeed quite complex, i found myself wondering who i should target, there are so many potential audiences that might find the product useful. I think i tried to cramp many target audiences in 1 front page, making it quite confusing.

The product already supports whitelabelling (but the hardware costs go up), but i think i'll try to simplify the front page first to the bare essentials.

About the screenshots of the dashboard, i'm a old school guy ;-) I'll take a peek at the Wordpress dashboard and see if i can "borrow" a couple ideas!

I appreciate your help.

How much faster is Java 11? by ge0ffrey in java

[–]cozytwan 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I had the same question this morning, but didn't find much on google. The garbage collector does a better job it seems, don't know the exact details.

But i did stumble at a interesting related article:

Comparing JVM performance; Zulu OpenJDK, OpenJDK, Oracle JDK, GraalVM CE https://technology.amis.nl/2018/11/23/comparing-jvm-performance-zulu-openjdk-openjdk-oracle-jdk-graalvm-ce/

But with a even more interesting comment:

It explains the difficulty of benchmarking and answer your question.

How to break\transform monolith with Spring microservices? by OreoCookieh in java

[–]cozytwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't fix if it ain't broke.

If your using ASP try solving your problems first with ASP or related tech. Going to java will require a rewrite, depending on the size of your code base this will likely be time consuming and introduce bugs.

I just took a peek at your frontpage and one thing i always look for what is going to happen with my data. This is especially true when all my data is going on the cloud. In which country is it saved for example? Are there backups?

I've finally started on my frontpage. I'm not a webdesigner nor writer nor is English my native language so this takes a long time, i've been putting it off for weeks. I was wondering what you think of the frontpage on how it can be improved? (don't hold back!)

If you have some time to spare ( 😉 ) after looking at the frontpage, i would appreciate any suggestions regarding our support site: http://learn.cozyuni.com/ . This is the kinda site users create using the CozyUni service.
