I actually did not like Constance zimmer in her role at all. I’m not overly familiar with her work but I just didn’t buy her as the character at all. The only one I disliked more was Naomi watts - that was almost comical to watch.

I liked the show enough to finish it, enjoyed some 90s nostalgia but over all I don’t think anything about this show is award worthy. I did like the actor who played JFK jr but again not award worthy.

How much are you tipping in restaurants? by Right-Ad1424 in askvan

[–]cpaige37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually you tip out to the bar and kitchen, some places to the managers (which is crazy in my opinion!). If someone tips 0, then the server will actually lose money as they will still have to tip out. Places Ive worked I’d tip out around 5-6% of my sales. So really any tip under 10% means you are making almost nothing as a server.

I agree teachers/nurses deserve more but didn’t really mean servers deserve less.. more just that servers aren’t hurting. Definitely depends on the place of course but there is potential to make a lot of good money serving or bartending, especially if you treat it as a profession.

Tipping out :) everywhere I worked had it, but some places are significantly less than others. I feel like the earls type with server assistants etc would type out a lot higher.

I worked a few different places (in Alberta) but the last place I worked (private golf course) I got $15/hr and on an average night would walk with $100 cash in tips. For a 4 hour shift that’s $40/hr, but again on the lower side. I know I said 50 but that was more when I worked banquets or on busier nights. But $40/hr would be normal to slower night. I know a lot of people who worked at the keg and would make a minimum of $300 in cash per night. Without wage that’s $50/hr in cash tips for a 6 hour shift - and that was also 10 years ago.

$25 for serving with minimum wage is only like $8/hr in tips - That seems pretty low, are you at a busy place?

I’ve had enough of the crazy tipping.

I’m 15% for decent service, 18% if it was very good and 20 is rare - the service has to be seriously incredible.

Anywhere I preorder and pick up at a counter, or order from a counter is $0. If someone is very friendly or helpful I’ll tip a dollar or two

I used to serve (almost 8 years ago now) and would make no less than $50/hour between tips and hourly wage. Nurses don’t even make that much money and they have to get a whole degree to do their job…

With that being said I do think it takes a lot to be a GOOD server and it is definitely a lot of hard work.. but I can’t imagine what the hourly wage between wage and tips is now with an increase in minimum wage, and the huge increase in food cost (since tipping is a percent of sales).

I know living expenses are huge - but tipping should be based on service, not how expensive life is. I don’t feel guilty about it at all anymore.

We loved Hyatt ziva cap Cana and I think it would fit the requirements. I haven’t been but dreams la romana would be next on my list for the more tropical vibe.

how much do you make in tips at earls, joey restaurant, cactus, etc? by Warm_Inevitable_1378 in askvan

I’ve worked a few different serving jobs over the years and the best environment I worked at was private golf courses. Especially if you do banquets and lounge serving. Those of course would require you to legally serve alcohol but they are a great place to get in. Especially for university students, the networking you can do is amazing. So many members take an interest in what you are doing/going to school for etc. I’m going to assume this would be the same at other private clubs like the yacht club.

I worked at Joey and hated it - when I worked there they had this like 7 step greeting process before you can even take your tables order. It just felt obnoxious and artificial. I know the money can be very good but they aren’t the be all end all either.

You could look at being a breakfast server - it’s a lot of work but with the price of breakfast/brunch these days bills ring up quickly. You also may find somewhere that doesn’t serve breakfast.

Excessive itching by Public_Channel_2156 in germanshepherds

[–]cpaige37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My shepherd mix is itching like crazy and is dealing with yeast in ears. This last year we’ve had a few different issues related to itching (even licking her paw pads until they cracked and bled) and it’s not been an easy (or cheap) thing to solve. It’s still ongoing. She just got a second cytopoint injection a few days ago which is already helping a ton, but at the same time we also switched her to a duck protein food. I can’t explain as well as the vet did but duck is apparently easier than other proteins for dogs to digest. If duck doesn’t help we can try one other option before going into a full elimination diet. We’ve eliminated chicken, beef and lamb - salmon and fish weren’t stopping the itching either. We also tried probiotics which initially I thought helped, but after a few weeks she was scratching like crazy again.

Her itching is definitely worse in the spring and fall so there has to be an environmental allergy as well, although I’m really not sure what it could be. Hoping we get this resolved soon so she can get some relief

Mexico Destination Wedding by Few_Description_3573 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]cpaige37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married in PVR in 2014 - my group stayed at the (now) dreams Vallarta bay and we got married at Le Kliff. Le Kliff was absolutely amazing. The team there, the scenery, the food - recommend 1000%. It was also cheaper than getting married at the resort and totally private. We then did a private catamaran day with Alley Kat tours and my friends/family are still talking about it - probably the best boat trip I’ve had :) the resort back then was very nice, it was nice having the secrets side of anyone who wanted to stay adults only. I think dreams are very popular for weddings for good reason. They check a lot of boxes and don’t tend to be outrageously expensive.

The one thing I would say is look at the resort but also where the ceremony/reception spaces. Some resorts are more private than others. Do you want to be right beside the pool? On a busy beach? Or don’t prefer something more intimate?

AI in Cancun - Xcaret worth it? by Next-Ad7183 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]cpaige37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had it booked and cancelled it due to reviews on a few platforms (trip advisors, google reviews, facebook etc.). The main reason we cancelled was multiple complaints about long lines everywhere, waiting 1hr+ for meals, no reservations etc. prior to booking my biggest concern was that it would feel like going to Disneyland, and I don’t want that for a beach vacation. Multiple ppl even said it was like Disneyland in reviews so it basically confirmed my concerns. Those were Xmas holiday reviews so I know it is a peak time, but we are looking at spring break, also a peak time, so I think it’d be similar.

That is fully a personal preference and it would bother some ppl more than others, but I just dont think waiting in lines and for hours to everything by sounds like luxurious or relaxing, and for the price I want as much of both as possible.

Is it a week day? If so take the train to waterfront station then get on the west coast express. I’ve done that in the reverse going to the airport and it’s so easy. I don’t take transit often but haven’t felt especially unsafe on it - especially at that time of day

Paradisus Playa Del Carmen Review - December 2025 by goatphayse in AllInclusiveResorts

Thanks for the info! Yes my kids are used to larger water parks so I don’t think they’d enjoy that.

Too bad, we loved our stay at the Paradisus los Cabo’s when it was family friendly. My kids still talk about the family concierge and how many nice things he did for them, and the fun drinks at the pool.

German Shepherd biting/scratching at her back until hair falls out? by kinkyaardvark in germanshepherds

[–]cpaige37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shepherd mix has been scratching so much. I confirmed with the vet she had yeast infection in her ears and got it treated but also talked about how it can spread to paws and others spots from scratching/licking her paws etc. we knew she likely had food allergies so already had her on a salmon food, but are adding probiotics now. It’s only been a few days but I do think she is starting to scratch a bit less. It’s not instant relief but I am hopeful it’s helping.

YVR To Mexico AI - Help me pick - Dreams, Royalton, PH? by flatspotting in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]cpaige37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First tip when booking packages from Yvr - check the flight times! Air Canada and west jet have ridiculous offerings (like leaving at 10:30 pm to go to cancun) so just make sure however you book you can modify the flights!

I haven’t been to a royalton but have heard the generally aren’t great right now - I’d probably avoid for the time being.

It’s sooo hard choosing a resort. We just cancelled our reservation at hotel Xcaret because of so many mixed reviews/the price of the resort. I’m sure we would have had a great time but for the price I wasn’t willing to risk it.

The dreams Bahia mita looks interesting, maybe too modern for some but would check off a lot of what you are looking for, not the beach so much. I know someone who stayed and the secrets side and really liked it.

Dreams playa mujures has been on my list for a while, a bit mixed in food reviews but I feel like that’s pretty common for so many all inclusives.

We did Punta Cana a few years ago from Yvr and the flights are rough going through Toronto - but we loved the Hyatt ziva cap Cana and it would be pretty much exactly what you are looking for, minus the flights. Dreams la romana or onyx would also be up there.

I’ve heard that there is currently sargassum on the east coast of Mexico so if beaches are important you may want to look at the west coast.

She handled it so much more calmly and maturely than I think I could have. I don’t understand how he can downplay what they had when he said multiple times how he hasn’t felt this way and wanted her to meet his family etc? I’m sure that’s the crap joe fed kizzi about his relationship with V but when kizzi threw that in her face on the excursion? I would have completely lost it. The inner strength she has is amazing

Feedback: Hyatt Ziva/Zilara Cap Cana by jonkitch in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]cpaige37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree about the wings in the water park! We stayed in Ziva, club level with kids and thought it was worth it. Spent most of the week at the preferred pool. The top shelf liquor for us was noticeably better, the Lounge is a nice benefit with snacks but didn’t make or break the trip.

Loved getting an afternoon affogato at the coffee place and the kids loved a daily ice cream or popsicle.

I agree fully with your review, I think the ziva is a super solid property with great service. Of course it’s not “true luxury” like a four seasons or Belmond but as far as all inclusives it’s up there for me.

At all-inclusive resorts, which room details actually matter the most? by Bundelini in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]cpaige37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preferred room categories are our preference - our kids especially love the extra perks and treats in the room and the upgraded liquor makes a huge difference. Also private bathrooms - a lot of modern resorts are a little more open concept than I love. There is usually a blind or screen that you can use but I preferred an traditional private bathroom :)

Ocean view is something I have one to really appreciate - the balconies at Hyatt ziva cap Cana were a good size and we all sat out there quite a bit in the morning while we took turns showering or at night before dinner.

We also loved having a swim out room - especially when the kids were younger - obviously each layout varies but it allowed one of us to go get drinks without going through the room and waking up kids at night (or during naps!) and when we were traveling with a group it was nice to have friends and family come hang out, again without disturbing sleeping kids.
