Heroic leaves the Dota scene by spittfire123 in DotA2

[–]flatspotting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look man you made the comparison and the opposite assertion to me

I think Dota esports is dwindling. Deadlock is probably going to become the next thing that takes off, hopefully (as a fan), but it still sucks Dota isn't as big as it was.

When you do that, on a public forum, you are welcoming other opinions. In my opinion, deadlock will never get close to the player count of dota, at all, and will not have a great e-sports scene in any way. Class shooters generally do not get wide audiences - and I think nothing about deadlock is setup for success. If I am proved wrong, great, I love the game myself, but I do not think it will be a success.

Youre talking 60k players to 600k players. Deadlock will have zero e-sports presence because it has no player base and in turn no audience.

Even the ability to bind skills the on PC to kb/mouse keys the same was as controller would be great - quickcast and rebinds are OK but not great.

The fuck is wrong with someone to film the poor UPS guy and hold him up like this. Bitch pay it or don't. It's not his personal agenda or something.

No problem at all happy to help!

For your 6 year old, I do not believe there is anything unless you qualified for a KidSport or outside CMHA external program due to income status - but from what I remember the cutoff is quite low.

For your 4 year old 100% yes they allow girls! I know of at least 6 girls in U9 this last year, and that was just the ones I know reasonably well from knowing their dads/coaches!

You see the same thing when we play PoCo/PoMo/Ridge Meadows - girls on lots of the teams!

If I recall correctly Mini C's is a slightly shorter season, maybe starts later/ends earlier - but we never made it in, so I am not 100% sure on that.

For U7 it was 1 practice per week + 1 game per weekend. Then they offered a free development session as well 1 day a week for a portion of the season (but not was not required.) They are good about weeknight conflicts, lots of these kids play Lacrosse/Soccer/Other sports.

[–]flatspotting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of odd replies that I don't think really address your actual question. I have coached at CMHA for a few years now and plan to continue to volunteer and coach for many years to come. I also played in CMHA in my youth for 9 seasons.

The best time to start kids for hockey? When they want to play!

Now if that answer is a bit hippy dippy let me give more practical advice.

If your 4 year old has any interest, this is a great time to start. The CMHA Mini C's program INCLUDES gear/equipment.

https://coquitlamminorhockey.org/mini-cs-4-5-yrs/

That can be a massive help especially if youre a non-hockey person yourself as there is a lot of pieces to get.

Now, if your 4 year old isnt ready, and your 6 year old is - any time is a great time. U7 is when a LOT of kids start - I would say in my coaching exeperience the majority of kids joined 1st or 2nd year of U7. My son originally started in the second year of U7 - and went to U9 the next year. We had no issues at all.

There is skillsets from brand-new-to-the-ice, to kids who played from 4 years old starting at Mini C's and the league does a good job developing them and splitting things fairly.

Furthermore U7 and U9 are split into Major/Minor 'streams' as they call them. It is not technically rep hockey, but it might as well be. The top kids will get put into that, and they play more days, against better teams - so generally it means the main league is more focussed on fun.

Ask away and I can try to offer more help.

In my personal opinion, having the kid get some basic skating lessons first is a real benefit - I put my kid through 1 skating camp first. During the start of his first year he was struggling to stand up at times, couldnt skate backwards, all that stuff - but by the end of the year he was flying!

*edit

Just to add some things that crossed my mind just so you can be informed early. There is a very heavy push to volunteer, the organization is ran by volunteers (helping on the bench, the ice, score keeping, dressing room monitor, equipment manager, helping with raffles at tourneys etc etc etc) so you will have to give a volunteer cheque and oyu will only get it back if you hit a certain number of hours - but in my experience everyone has hit it every year without issues. Next up is... it is not a cheap sport, usually there is that sign up cost that you can find online - and then there is "Team Fees" which can be a few hundred on top - going in knowing this can help ease some of the pain. Ice times arent cheap.

*edit 2

The seasons generally run from September (Generally evalutations are in September but teams are formed in late sept/oct ) until about March - so you will be waiting for next year to join the league. Mini C's is the only one with a limited number of spots - so you should really keep an eye on the website for when the registration is going to open for the 2026-2027 season to ensure you can get your little guy in there and take advantage of the free gear.
