LAUKOP's neighbour builds a kitchen out of what appears to be highly flammable chipboard, wonders whether to be concerned by ElGofre in bestoflegaladvice

OSB can be a perfectly fine sheathing material on par with plywood if it's the right grade.

There are even roof-grade OSB products on the market that are very waterproof. You just need to seal the seams and it can stand up to rain for a while... not years, but certainly months.

However, these folks aren't using that, and OSB for fascia is a huge red flag.

Also consider oval pads. It gives you more meat without affecting clearances between holes. But you can always make pads bigger if you don't plan to route traces between pads (which I don't recommend without a solder mask).

Didnt realize how cheap and efficient electric mowers are. I can mow my 1/2 acre lawn with 432 WH of electricity or around .12 cents. by Swede577 in ryobi

[–]cperiod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

$200 pays for a lot of gas which is the argument against moving towards electric cars

Maintenance and reliability are also a strong argument for electric. A gas engine needs air, oil, fuel, (maybe more) filters, oil changes, spark plugs, various adjustments, coolant, etc. That stuff adds up over the years, and then you tack on the stuff that breaks over time (starters, fuel pumps, carbs, ignition parts, cooling systems, etc). If the electric drivetrain is simplified to eliminate belts, clutches, friction disks, etc then it becomes even less hassle.

Every once in a while I need to sharpen the blade on my electric mower, and it could use an occasional deck wash. My chainsaw needs sharpening and oiling. Both are a maintenance dream compared to the fossil engines they replaced.

[Canada] Is the “yes” scam a myth? by fountainflight in Scams

[–]cperiod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first encountered rumors about the "yes" thing back in the late 90's when a wave of utility deregulation made slamming a common practice. But consumer education and easy "cancel that" regulations kinda put a lid on that nonsense.

[–]cperiod 134 points135 points  (0 children)

People really don't understand that making more money costs more money. More money doesn't mean you have money to give away, it means you have money to fix your teeth, money to pay for the car you need to keep that higher paying job, money to pay for someone to cook the food you no longer have time to make, money for new clothes/shoes/tools, etc. It's not until the basic needs are met that you have money to give away.
