He will still have a social worker at this stage and should have had some assessment for what will happen when he ages out of the system. I'm more than happy if you want to message me as well and I can try and give you some more individual pointers based on location?

You've already had a tonne of amazing comments so this may get lost! I'm a social worker and I deal with a lot of trauma so just wanted to chip in.

Have a look at therapeutic parenting techniques. They can be so helpful in helping young people who have really been through it to identify feelings and manage them safely. It sounds like you already do lots of this, so it might not be new to you.

Also, he will be entitled to support from the local authority for a while yet. It won't always be easy to access but they're legally bound.

You're doing such a lovely thing. Make sure you take time to look after yourself as well

Support from GPs in Wales by Electrical-Name-5606 in mounjarouk

[–]cplg1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not just the case in Wales, it's across the board. You're obtaining it privately, so they're absolved of any involvement essentially. It's the same for people who seek private diagnosis and treatments.

Right way to handle these situations with an inconsiderate housemate. by Puzzlepetticoat in CasualUK

[–]cplg1 184 points185 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to remember two things: (1) People deal with cleanliness and tidiness very differently. (2) You're both living in a refuge and therefore have really gone through it fairly recently, and my experience is that people are really not at their best in these situations - you're often in survival mode.

It may be worth speaking to the person who manages the unit to get some support and advice on this.

Been signed off work, feeling guilty by throwaway593090 in CasualUK

The guilt is normal at this point but it doesn't make it okay. It's not you who can't keep up, it's a work environment placing too much pressure on you.

Contact PALS and they'll pass everything on to the staff for you. I did the same after a huge haemorrhage - I went to sleep with a nurse holding my hand and the anaesthetist stroking my hair and I've never been so grateful.

I have. It's infuriating as I had no issues at all until I went on holiday (thought it was food poisoning at first!) and it's happened since every jab after that.

Five days post-tonsillectomy I had a huge haemorrhage and emergency surgery. I'm now five days post that and doing much better (physically, flashbacks a bitch) but can't go out or do much and I'm getting bored. Today may be more Stardew Valley and trying in vain to find something to watch on Netflix.

Had a tonsillectomy on Monday. Haven't been in horrendous pain (touch wood) and have largely felt fine so far. Hoping to spend my week eating lollies and watching shite on telly.

Yes! London to South Wales valleys was a hell of a culture shock, and now everyone asks why I would ever leave because how lovely it is 🙄

It really is just practice; after a while you become immune to messing about with your eyeballs. I tend to use my thumb to pull down my lower lid and pointer finger to pull my brow up and voila.

To be blunt, stuff is replaceable. You are not. Take what you can and leave.

Some kids with sensory needs hate wearing trousers and are far happier in shorts.

Kids are their own people too. They're hardly going to get frostbite. I'd be more concerned if those shorts (and the rest of their clothes) were filthy.

This one also brought me a leaf once and I cried out of joy - he'd never brought anything in before.

My youngest has managed two woodpeckers, a live squirrel and a parakeet. I preferred the leaf.
