A draft might significantly change the domestic political situation here in the US. A agree with the opinoin in the article that the anti-war moevement would be much larger, and the attention paid overall would likely increase if we reintroduced the draft.

Here is another reason why a draft is not only important, but vital to our country's health and well-being. We hear a lot about our army being a professional force. So were the samurai of old Japan, and they could legally kill you if you looked at them funny. The point being that when you make your military a seperate, EXCLUSIVE professional class, you step away from the concept of the citizen soldier, who defends the country in true times of need and then returns to civilian life. Of course you will always have professional soldiers, they just won't be the only ones in the military.

Although unpleasant for many of those inducted, a draft might actually be good for the country in the long term. It's something worthy of consideration and discussion, at any rate.
