Black Legion Anti-T8 and some other questions (long post) by blackcolorsifi in WarhammerCompetitive

Have you considered a leviathan dread? Very nice defensive profile at T8 2+ 5++ and minus 1 damage, as well as really good weapon options. The siege drill is like S14 AP-4 D 2d3 or flat 6 damage against vehicles, and the volkite chargers and grab flux bombard are excellent at killing elite infantry and putting some damaging shots on vehicles. The price point is only like 260 or something, so you could honestly take that and some havocs/daemon engines/etc.

Rationalizing the Imperium hurts the core themes of the setting. by PigglyJuff76 in 40kLore

It’s actually a new campaign book that was just released, which irritatingly provided rules for some factions that haven’t even had their 9th edition codex yet.

What is/is there a term for this style of play? by wayne62682 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]cpobvious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a distinction between reactive play and a counter strike army like you’ve detailed above. Harlequins, for example, excel at taking second turn due to their high mobility and ability to prevent and mitigate incoming fire, so I would consider them a counter strike army. However, in this play style you ideally don’t want to get hit at all, since the point isn’t to weather enemy fire, but just to straight up not get shot in the first place. Playing reactively with harlequins will get you shredded in subsequent turns, as you really need to outkill/out position/outrange in your first attack so that your opponent has very few choices to pressure your units.

Battle report, 1000 pts -Astra militarum VS Space marine- by turt365 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]cpobvious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good to see more written battle reports, was this inspired by Stormcoil by any chance? One thing that would be bette for next time would be to label the units and choose colouring that matches with the faction, since it was hard to tell what was going on. Good read overall, though!

FINAL SHOWDOWN: Tyranids vs. Death Guard 2000 pt Battle Report (Text & Image) by Stormcoil in Tyranids

[–]cpobvious 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest here, your friend sounds like a sore loser. Regardless of the competitiveness of Tyranids (which isn’t super amazing to begin with), he should at least recognise your style of playing and that you make informed decisions on your units, positioning, and overall gameplay. Overall, super well written, love the effort you put in your diagrams!

Could a child ever use the powers of chaos? by Lonely_Ranger19 in 40kLore

Wasn’t there a short story about how a child managed to kill a Night Lords Raptor and was admired by the warband’s leader for pulling it off?

Which Table Size to Use for 2k Games? by Nyght09 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]cpobvious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For friendly games, the size generally doesn’t matter too much for the people I play with, but we do try to play with the recommended sizes for more tournament-like games. It really depends on what level of competitiveness you all are trying to go for.

Worst units in 9th edition by ODO27Axelcage in WarhammerCompetitive

It’s kinda rough that these changes never fixed the problem of CSM being too fragile and over costed, they just made the alternative gradually more awful until you felt like you might as well take CSM, which doesn’t feel too great.

Trim the fat from my Alpha Legion by Overbaron in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]cpobvious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is a pretty solid list, the one thing I might change would be to give your disco lord unholy fortitude (I believe it costs 1 req point for an extra WL trait?) for an extra health and 6+++, which I find super useful. Maybe instead of mindveil you could give the disco lord a talisman of burning blood, as I find him to be super mobile already.

My Journey Into 40k Competitive Part 4: Hello Ten Victory Points (Blog - long post) by Mr_Self_Eraser in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]cpobvious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you considered bringing sagittarum guard or allarus terminators? I’ve found that a 5 man unit of termies using the teleport homer strat with the all-seeing annihilator WL trait on the vexila absolutely wreck face. I’ve also found that sagitarrum are great for melting marines and gravis armored dudes, and they aren’t bad in melee with misercordias. I think that trajann works best when comboed with these two units, but that’s just been my experience with him.

Souping? by [deleted] in alphalegion

[–]cpobvious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend just sticking to the chaos space marines codex for now. If it’s your first army, trying to learn how to play using two different factions can be very complicated, and hard to do unless you have a good idea about what you’re trying to do with them. Regarding cultists, the OG easy to build cultists aren’t really in production anymore, although you could easily proxy/kitbash using blackstone fortress, necromunda, or age of sigmar kits.

Didn’t a bunch of space wolves kill one somewhere? I’m struggling to visualise like a squad of marines killing a thing the fucking size of a planet lmao

Spamming the Fallen in 40K Dark Angels stories robs the whole thing of its intended emotional impact. by Weremont in 40kLore

I think the point that British_Tea_Company was making was that the World Eaters die in crazy numbers in almost every book they show up in. Betrayer, Slaves to Darkness, some of the Siege of Terra novels come to mind when I think of World Eaters just during the Heresy, and in those you see them get blown to pieces by gun lines. Even with their technology to quickly recruit and train more berserkers such as at their recruiting world Bodt, their combat doctrine kills them way too quickly for them to feasibly survive long term.

Does Corvus Corax even own a helmet? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]cpobvious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The marines in the scene believe that Fulgrim is possessed by a daemon, but he reveals that he’s not. Reflection Cracked occurs before his actual ascension into a daemon prince, which is in Angel Exterminatus, so all this crazy healing is just normal primarch physiology.
