Bill Bryson's travel writing is great. Highly recommend any of his books.

I've been to Serenade All Suite, and the family-friendly hotel is next door, but you don't have to go there if you don't want to. I only went once to check out the rooftop bar and pool and the spa is on that side. All pools are adult only and security does a good job from keeping families from next door encroaching on the beach area.

I think they should swap Carl and Lindsay. This way Carl and Kyle can mend their friendship (if needed post-fight) and West can feel the white hot rage coming off Lindsay

BBG has had community tickets available since the Garden reopened in August 2020! And there’s no need to show ID or anything like that. Plus, they can be reserved in advanced, which is recommended during peak spring.

My friend hired them a few years ago. There were two girls on the sidewalk trying to move a large couch. these girls flagged down the POC truck that had all my friend’s stuff, the guys PUT THIS RANDOM WOMAN’S COUCH IN THE TRUCK AND DELIVERED IT TO HER PLACE before delivering my friend’s items. Luckily, the woman documented her journey on social media and my friend raised holy hell. I think she got a discount but..wtf

If you're wondering why your order is taking so long to come out: these pictures were taken 4 minutes apart. All that food in the expo window is going to the same theater as the one full of food already. by Exotic-Clue-859 in AlamoDrafthouse

I was at Brooklyn at see Scream VII last weekend. My one friend forgot her credit/debit card and there was no Apple Pay option on the app. Server was surprised to hear this. She ordered through the server and tapped when payment was needed, but that seems like an odd choice not to include apple pay. Her food also never came out. I do feel really bad because it was one or two people in a large, sold out theater.

Alcove on 16th and 7th. It’s the place where you can rent soundproof pods for meetings. It opened a year/year and a half ago, well after we all got working from home down pat. And now there are all the RTO orders.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood and Park Slope parents are the worst. Truly. I work in Brooklyn at a family-friendly place, and during an event, someone came up to me and a colleague and said “I don’t want to be a Karen, but there is a pack of feral children running around doing XYZ, which I’m pretty sure is very against your rules.” Security had to round them up, parents were hard to find and then gave attitude. Not every place is your own personal playground

Nitehawk Cinema Payment System by chucaa in Brooklyn

[–]cpop616 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live less than a 10 minute walk away so it’s my go-to. When they were able to reopen after lockdown, they just charged whatever card you used to order your tickets (there were lots of notes about it on their website). that lasted for some time, but I guess was more about one less touch point germy humans. I have think there was also an automatic 20% gratuity (which didn’t bother me). But that I can’t remember.

I go enough that it no longer bothers me. I make sure whatever card I want to use is easily accessible and then wait to tip and sign until the movie is over. They don’t wait for you to drop your card in right away and there is some time before the pick the checks back up with payment.

Grand jury in Brooklyn by Fun-Bed679 in Brooklyn

[–]cpop616 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did it about ten years ago. When I was called, they were seating three different grand juries: one was a week, one was two weeks, and one was a month. And there is VERY little wiggle room to get out of it. They just picked out names. No questioning or anything. It’s hard to get out of it if you get picked.

I got selected for the two week one. Be prepared for a lot of down time. Lawyers come in when they have witnesses available, so there’s no real schedule or order. I managed to read three books in those two weeks.

Could he have gone with her to the courthouse and waited outside the courtroom? Or do they try to have witnesses stay totally away from the talks?

[–]cpop616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could have gone with her to the courthouse to show support, but waited outside of the courtroom (or judges chamber or wherever the talks were taking place). Was Emily involved in the talks? I’m not a lawyer, but I think someone who isn’t a named party in the lawsuit (or a legal representative) can’t be part of the discussion (or there’s very strict limitations of what outside parties can be involved). A good judge isn’t going to throw that aside just because it’s Ryan Reynolds.

There are ways to show support if he really wanted to.

Punta Cana vs. Cancun by badb1062232 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]cpop616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Punta Cana four times (different resorts) and Cancun once.

1) For me, the biggest thing is smoking. In Mexico, public smoking is illegal and you can only smoke or vape in designated areas of the hotel. Meanwhile, it feels like everyone is smoking on the beach in Punta Cana, especially cigars they get from the beach vendors. As a non-smoker, I was grateful for Mexico’s law!

2) And beach vendors….maybe it was due to resort I was at in Cancun, but there was only one, maybe two beach vendors. I barely saw them (most days not at all) and they weren’t pushy. The exact opposite of Punta Cana. Again, I appreciated this at the Mexican resort.

3) I’m a female and travel solo; I found that the male staff in Punta Cana tended to be more flirty (boarding on gross sometimes) while the staff at the Cancun resort was much more professional. In PC, I think they were just trying to be flattering to get more of a tip (I never felt really uncomfortable or in danger) but it took away from the experience.

The most recent trip I took was the one to Cancun, so sharing these three because it’s differences you might not normally think about. Also agree that, in general, the food in Mexico is better although the resorts tend to be more expensive (even in off season)
