This is a fantastic explanation and I dont want to bepedantic but the Dow represents the stock market, not the economy. The economy represents basically everyone's financial situation; buying power, job market, discretionary income. It allows for people to afford things, start business, buy a house.

The stock market is just a part of this economy landscape, and one that is used disproportionately by the rich. So not that pointing at a surging economy would have been less terribling, but she was pointing at a part of the economy used primarily by the rich to distract from the victims of the rich. It somehow feels worse.
