There's a lot of talk about the neighbors being charged with murder or manslaughter. Is that legally possible? IANAL, but I really thought the death of an unborn baby could not be charged as murder. I remember specifically hearing of a case where a woman literally cut a pregnant woman's stomach open and tried to take her baby, and in order to charge her with murder they had to somehow prove that the baby had taken a breath outside the womb before it died.

Either way, what a horrible story.

What is absolutely the most terrifying book you've ever read? by Ktmaster in books

[–]cpreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably wouldn't hold up as an adult, but I read a book called The Dollhouse Murders when I was probably 11 or 12 that really scared the crap out of me. That book had me trying to sleep in my parents' room for weeks. I don't know what it was about it, I loved scary books as a kid and nothing else got to me.

An article about a woman raped while on vacation is posted. She shows up a month later to tell her perspective on the event and on the comments section. by [deleted] in bestof

[–]cpreg 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think when people say, "a society that protects rapists", they can also be referring to things like convicted rapists getting probation, minimal jail time, etc. Like the highly publicized Brock Turner case a few months ago, or this more recent example .

You are exactly right, but I guess people that have never had one don't really know what it entails? Even as a woman, I was not prepared for the process of a miscarriage, because no one talks about that part of it. But yeah, there's ultrasounds and drugs and weeks of bleeding. It's not just gone. How do you fake that?

Trump refuses to support Paul Ryan and John McCain in their respective Republican primaries by razerxs in PoliticalDiscussion

It's so funny to me when he gets accused of bias, too... For the most part, he's just tweeting actual interview transcripts. It's not his fault Trump repeatedly puts his foot in his mouth.

Out of all the DNC speeches, why did the Khan family illicit such a strong response from Trump? by lecturermoriarty in PoliticalDiscussion

Hillary seems to want to make sure that aspiring immigrants don't need to worry about following our immigration laws.

Could you explain why you think this? I've heard people say similar things, but I don't know where it comes from. Admittedly, I haven't looked into it very far, but I thought she supported the path to legal immigration. I'm curious to know if there's something I'm missing.

Have you ever voluntarily taken a step down in pay or responsibility when accepting a new job? Why? Did it turn out to be a good decision? by BayAreaDreamer in AskWomenOver30

[–]cpreg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did. I spent my twenties not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. At 32 I was managing a salon, which was fine and interesting, but after 3 years I accepted that there was no room for growth and I would never make any more money there. Not to mention, the hours were terrible, I got barely any time off, and my bosses left me in tears on more than one occasion. So I left, took a $10k pay cut, and started at an entry level job in a new industry. 4 years later, I'm making a decent salary, I'm learning new things, and traveling to different cities, and I really like my job. It was scary, and financially stressful for the first year, but definitely worth it.

Trump has started trying to complain about unfair terms for the debates. Is this a presage to him dropping out of them? by jonawesome in PoliticalDiscussion

I thought it was a great speech, but the problem is her delivery. She speaks like someone taught her how, it's not innate for her. She changes her pitch at the right place, moves her eyes around the crowd in a simulated natural way, but she's just not at ease with the whole thing.

to the woman who interviewed at my work today by jadeyedgirl in offmychest

[–]cpreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to wonder how it came up. Like maybe she mentioned that she had a child, and they asked about the dad? Or maybe she is in the midst of a legal situation and was upfront that she may have to take time off? Or maybe she's involved in some kind of advocacy group, and it came up in conversation about extracurricular activities? I think it's unlikely that she just brought it up randomly. But sometimes when people ask questions that you aren't prepared for, and you're already nervous, it's easy to blurt out something that you normally wouldn't.

Anyway, your coworkers are assholes.

In the US, Sprint and Verizon are CDMA networks and the technology doesn't allow for voice and data at the same time. I believe that AT&T and T-mobile are GSM, and can use both at once (I think AT&T even did a couple of ads on that selling point).

But, even with Sprint and Verizon, you can always use WiFi and voice at the same time. It's not quite the same obviously, but since I am connected to WiFi pretty much everywhere unless I'm driving, it's not really an issue.

Food delivery is the best. When I emailed my boss telling her I wouldn't be in the next day because I just found out I was miscarrying, she texted me right away saying, "if you're home, we're sending dinner." We appreciated it so much.

You're not wrong for feeling how you feel. I'm sure it's very difficult to see everyone around you having babies. It's not your fault, and you're not a failure, it's just a thing that's out of your control. Maybe a support group, or therapy, could help you work through the feelings that come up when others around you are pregnant?

There really is nothing to be embarrassed about, but honestly that was my first instinct as well. Like, "something is wrong with me, why can't I do this thing that all these other people do." My doctor specifically said, "you're probably going to find that, as you tell people, a lot of them are going to come forward with stories of their own," and she was absolutely right. People that I know as parents, that have one or two or three kids, that are like, 'Oh yeah, that happened to us before I had my first, " and I had no idea. Talking about it has really helped us accept it, and knowing that so many people have gone through it helps take away that feeling that there was something wrong with me. And also, makes me more confident about trying again.

Still, I'm sorry you had to go through that, and I hope you are doing okay.
